The Lake

Dex was sitting next to the lake, just looking out and enjoying the moonlight on the rippling water.  It calmed the both of us; we were anxious from our conversation with Nellie.  I knew she had a good idea, but I hesitated.  I worked so hard to overcome the taint of my father’s rule and to make the pack strong again.  I didn’t want people beginning to panic nor did I want to even tempt myself with that sort of power.  I didn’t know if my father’s narcissism was a hereditary trait, but I’d rather not find out.

I could hear someone coming through the woods and I was irritated.  Dex, on the other hand, turned up his nose and began sniffing the air and then wiggled with joy.
