Everything around me went quiet and still almost as if time stopped. No more swishing of the leaves or the wind. Even the birds stopped chirping and the squeaking sound of the squirrels coming before were now nowhere to be heard. Not a single sound was made!
Gulping, I tried to keep my stance firm. All types of scenarios hit me all at once. He can kill me right here and now and I wouldn’t even see it coming. As if hearing my thoughts, he reassured me, “Don’t worry darling, I’m not here to kill you,”

With my mind still occupied with today’s events, I entered the room completely forgetting that Asher was inside. Making my way to the bathroom, I took off my hoodie and threw it on the couch. Taking the stairs, I hopped down wearing a dark blue hoodie over dark blue jeans which hugged my thighs and legs along with white thick sole joggers. Five days went by with Asher and I not talking to each other. It was either a small nod or a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ and at the most, not more than five words, literally. Things were getting depressingly tedious for me. My routine was the same as always. Breakfasts were in the room or in the kitchen with Maya, sometimes alone; I was not a fan of lunches that leave dinner. “Are you sure she is okay Cole?” I asked as she ran towards the woods. “Yeah, don’t worry about her,” he assured but I wasn’t satisfied by his answer. Something happened but I’ll leave it for now. “If you say so,” looking at the two guys I sighed, “Okay then, do your thing, I’m leaving,” “What thing?” Adrian frowned. I opened my mouth to speak but Cole interrupted, laughing, “She means training,” His mouth formed an ‘o’ before he gave a suggestion, “Why don’t you practice with us?” Cole looked at him. “I mean you should know how to fight,” he elaborated. “Yeah right. Taking in a hot sip of my coffee, I took a quick glance at everyone sitting at the table. They were all so focused into their own worlds. This was never the way with my family. We talked and laughed, we actually looked forward to having breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Anything that brought us to the table! It was exciting to talk about the littlest of things. But here, it’s like pack business, pack training or the upcoming ‘Winter Ball,’ otherwise nothing. Well Winter Ball sounds exhilarating to be honest. I hear Ball and I imagine a huge hall with formally dressed men in tuxedos or suits and women in dresses and wine and delectable food and the fresh aroma of enthusiasm and slow dancing. It’s quite…picturesque. Deciding to lighten up the boring atmosphere, I spoke up, taking everyone by surprise especially Asher, “Alpha Solomon, will your pack be joining us at the Winter Ball?”
