SHELDON
"You're not kidding?" I asked watching him suspiciously.
"I'm not. I have a contract written by my lawyer for this arrangement. All you have to do is to sign." He replied bringing out a white paper from his coat. He placed it on my table alongside a pen.
"I remember you asking me if that amount is enough. Well, my answer is no. Add more and maybe I'll accept it." I proposed folding my hands together.
"Done."
I looked at the screen and saw he added a few thousand to the amount.
"Is that all you can do?" I yelped finding it ridiculous that he doesn't add much.
Someone willing to pay me a lot of money in a month must be fucking rich.
"This is the final offer." He bickered, bending his brows.
I knew the face he was forming, the same one his father usually had when I tried to squeeze a few bills from him. He doesn't bulge just like his father. Blood is definitely thicker than water.
I grabbed the paper and pen, and after glancing at the big words, I signed them.
"There, we have a deal," I stated lifting my head to see him amused. "What?"
"You signed where I'm supposed to sign, lady." He hissed under his breath as he snatched the paper from me.
I looked at the paper and realized he was right.
My eyes widened. I didn't even pay attention to all the details. I might have shown him how stupid I was.
Oh, well. He should have made it clear from the start.
"Sorry," I whispered, trying to hide how embarrassed I was.
"It's okay. Let's just get this over with." He hushed.
"I'm getting paid now, right?"
"Yeah."
"Aren't you worried I'll run away with your money?"
"That's not a problem. You run, I find you, I sue you for fraud. It's in the contract." He stated blankly.
Ouch. I wonder what else is in this contract of his.
Who am I kidding? I won't be able to run off when I'm supposed to get a lot more if I hang around this guy. He looks like he needs help spending his money. Fortunately, I'm very generous when it comes to this.
Without wasting time, I gave him my bank details and he transferred the money to my account. My phone loudly blaring from my bedroom was the sweetest sound I'd ever heard in months.
I can't believe I'm broke free without even doing anything. All I gotta do is wear a giant ring and show off like someone actually wants to have me as a wife. So unbelievable.
"What should I save your contact with?" I asked holding my phone up to my face. I ran to retrieve it from my room, mostly to check if the alert is really real but Mr. Morgan's son here suggested we exchange contacts.
"Denzel is fine. And I've saved yours with Sheldon." He answered.
I scoffed, that's so plain.
Such a boring way to identify my fake fiance.
"Zel sweetie, Zel baby, Den sweetheart, Denny." I chuckled when I looked up to see him glaring at me. "Choose one."
He snorted, "I still choose Denzel."
What a killjoy.
I typed in what I wanted from the start, 'Zel baby' and I didn't forget to add an alien emoji to the side. That way, it doesn't look so ordinary to me.
"My family is having dinner tomorrow evening. It's the perfect time to introduce you to everyone."
"Your father will be there?" I asked, wide-eyed.
"Yes."
"Man, he won't like this."
"Don't worry, I'll handle him. All you need to think about is convincing my mother that you weren't hired and that you are truly my wife-to-be."
I sizzled with confidence that I can slay my way into his family.
My body has always been my greatest asset. Acting like I'm the one that keeps him warm at night in front of his folks will be nothing but a breeze.
"I know nothing about you." I pointed out.
"I'll send the important things you should know later. You can't afford to forget a thing."
I nodded numbly. I guess I have some studying to do. This feels like preparing for an official job.
But this is way better because I already got paid.
"The driver will be here to pick you up at exactly 5 pm. Wear something decent." He tipped.
"Got it."
He stood up swiftly after taking the contract. "Not a word of this to anyone."
He started walking away but I was fast enough to call him back.
"Denzel!"
"Yes?"
Happy that I got his attention, I picked up the black box on the table and turned to him.
"The ring. You should put it on by yourself."
"Why do I need to do that?"
"Duh, you're supposed to propose since you want me to be your fiance."
I was standing before him in a matter of seconds and passed the box to him. He took out the ring slowly and fumbled it between his fingers.
"This is ridiculous. You don't seem like someone who likes fairy tales." He remarked motionlessly.
"If I put it on by myself, I'll look like a lonely psychopath in the mirror," I replied stretching my hand toward him.
Taking a glance at my hand, he slid the ring on.
I felt like I was wearing something worth millions. A gorgeous ring for such a fake engagement.
I was about to flaunt the stunning ring in the air when it unexpectedly flew out of my hand and landed on the floor.
I was flustered as I picked it up not freaking knowing why it didn't fit.
My fingers weren't so slim...Why has the ring rejected me?
I could feel my heart beat anxiously.
"That's odd. It's supposed to fit." Denzel whispered staring at me, muzzled.
"Well, it didn't even stay a second on me," I argued.
He wordlessly looked at his hand and removed the ring on his pinky finger. He gently took my hand again and pushed the ring onto my finger.
It's a gold shimmering ring with thin edges. Not as eye-catching as the one in the box.
I shook my hand thoroughly hoping it would fall off but it didn't. The ring was perfectly seated just after my knuckle. It wasn't made for me but it fits!
I looked at him, short of words.
"Tomorrow it is." I nodded at him before watching him leave my apartment.
I wish I got better clients like him.
My phone buzzed a minute later with a call from Winter.
I attached the phone to my ear and I heard her speak;
"Mr. Morgan has booked you for tonight. Are you interested?"
SHELDON. The elevator in the hotel seemed to be taking forever to get me to the floor where the room was. Mr. Morgan changed the venue to an entirely distant hotel and I knew it was because he didn't want his son to show up again. It's insane how he still wants to keep doing this despite being caught. Unless he really didn't give a damn in the first place. Since he's adamant about keeping this up, I don't think Denzel's plan with me should hinder me from doing my job. I wanted to do this. The elevator doors parted ways eventually and I stepped out in a short skirt and strapless top. Not sure what inspired this look but I definitely want him to feel like he is going to miss a lot during tomorrow's dinner.I spotted the room number engraved on the door and using the key the receptionist gave me, I went in.He hasn't arrived yet, leaving the enclosed space in complete silence.I was about to turn on some music when someone suddenly rushed into the room and locked the door. I freake
SHELDON I felt like a Christmas tree with all the shining pieces of jewelry I put all over me for the dinner with Denzel's family. I don't usually get a chance to wear so much but I knew it was the perfect touch Denzel needed beside him. He was a living darkness with most of his outfits being too dark-colored. I'd represent the light coming into his world. That might make us blend. After getting his text message that he was downstairs, I scurried off to meet him. Yesterday ended with him dropping me off in front of my building. We didn't say anything to each other afterward because of the thong he found in his pocket. I don't know if he's mad or disappointed that he couldn't get the girl's number. But I had better things to worry about like the information I had to study about him.Winter's calls also blew up my cellphone the minute I was about to go to bed. I told her I would explain everything later but she gave me a choice. Either I'm in or I'm out. I still haven't decided if I'
SHELDON "What? Denzel, she is so funny!" Kimberly chuckled. I felt like a princess doll sitting in their midst who had no sense of life. I thought that it would be better if she said, 'What? Sheldon, you're so funny!'."Yeah, she loves kids," Denzel replied. He sat there, looking flustered but he didn't act surprised by my response. Naturally, we are already supposed to talk about all these things as a couple. Gosh! How does he not miss any detail?"We have three and they're too much of a handful. But I'm sure you can handle it." Lena said bashfully.Sometime later, a tall lady dressed as a nurse approached Mrs. Raven and whispered in her ear. I watched how her eyeballs jumped from me to Denzel. There was a clear difference in the way she looked at us. She paid more attention to him. Something tells me she's not just a nurse in this household. I was amused at how insecure I was pretending to be. Who cares if she and Denzel have anything going on? I was here for the money.I did mo
SHELDON Everything hurt. From my ankle to my shoulders and an ache in my head. After absorbing the chilly feeling of the tiles I was lying on, I got up slowly. My phone was vibrating nonstop in my purse. There was no sign of Mr. Morgan which means he ditched me here to die.I spewed silent insults at him as I tried straightening my dress to look exactly as it was before the fall.Suddenly, I could hear loud footsteps approaching and I stiffened. I'd be ready for doom if it turns out to be Mrs. Raven. The hairs on my skin rose as I didn't have enough time to run away. There was no point in running anyway. It'll make me look suspicious. So, I remained standing until the person causing the sound showed up from the other side of the hallway. He was tall, very tall, and dressed in a suit. Wearing gloves in his hands that clutched a black disposable sack and a nose mask. I could only see his eyes.At first, he was staring at the ground I fainted on before his eyes darted toward me."Well
SHELDONDenzel refused to state his reason for suddenly wanting me to come with him to his house so late at night but I followed his instructions anyway because this was what I secretly wanted.I can't keep this deal alive from afar. I wanted to be close to him so he doesn't get tired of me. My future depends on it. He's a big opportunity to get wealthy. He has turned me into a gold digger. We arrived at his house at 10 pm after the stressful packing and gathering of my belongings. He was sweet enough not to help me do the packing. According to him, he doesn't wanna be grossed out by touching my skimpy clothes. I had a majority of those kinds of clothes. I didn't mind because he's going to get used to them very soon. Denzel has been locked up in his bedroom while I went to the kitchen to use the first aid kit. Luckily, the wound wasn't too deep so I knew my way around it. After putting on the plaster, I took a long bath. My bedroom was downstairs and he said it's the only guest roo
SHELDON 'Sabina Debra Fester', my mother's full name was boldly written on the cover of the file. I flipped the first leaf with my heart thumping. There were photos of her with every personal information. And even this file notes that she's late; no longer living, dead, and gone forever. I found her pictures so lovely but they were her old photos. She wasn't this good-looking when I last saw her and watched her casket being lowered into the ground. Then, I saw something that made me freeze. Perhaps I have always been looking for something to hurt me and ruin my peace. There were details of her former jobs and where one included that my mother used to work for Mrs Raven. Within that time frame, I was around three years old. She only worked there for a year before resigning. Why did she resign? I didn't need anyone to tell me Denzel was already in the room and caught me red-handed looking through his briefcase. "I leave you for a while and you're already digging up my belongings."
SHELDON Thunderstorms clapped outside and I got tired of observing it from the window. It's evening time and the skies are dark. It has been raining for the past thirty minutes and Denzel wasn't home yet. He hasn't answered any of my calls or messages. I was curious about how it went with his dad. At that moment, I heard the doorbell ring. I glanced at my cat who was curled up at a corner of the living room. I hope Denzel's ready to behold his cuteness. It took him long enough. But why would he ring the doorbell when this is his place?I left to open the door. I was expecting to see his gloomy self-standing on the other side but to my surprise, more than two pair of eyes were looking back at me — three men dressed in formal outfits. Their suits spoke volumes just like Denzel's style of dressing. This fact was the reason I didn't slam the door and ran for my life. I instantly recognized them as the dashing friends in his file. I had to know in case his family brought it up during t
SHELDON I hated to break it to myself that this miserable night wasn't over. I was still in this house with four annoying guys, a heavy rain going on outside, and an overbearing cousin. Winter suggested she shares her business card with Denzel's friends because it was rare to see sons from wealthy homes in one place. If they ever needed girls for parties, Winter wanted to be the one on speed dial. For her not to humiliate me more, I escorted her to the living room, hating the look from Denzel. He forgets that things are so not cool between us. "...Trust me, my nightclub is the best in this city. I also got the prettiest girls for any service you desire." She said passing the cards to Soren, Gil, and Justin.I didn't know this was how it works and we get clients regularly. She actually straight-up tells people she is a hooker? "Expect my call. That's a promise." Justin stated as he put the card carefully in his breast pocket. "Thank you." Winter smiled warmly before giving me a p
