I was released later that evening when my blood work came back normal, and I'd had plenty of fluids to help clear most of the drug from my system.
Vince had left earlier to take Jack to his mom's. Riley stayed with me through the process and drove me home. I learned on the way Tristan had taken my car and got it back to the house for me.
The police had visited earlier and took my statement, asking almost all of the same questions Vince and Tristan had earlier. They said they would do their best to catch the perpetrator, but it would take time. They believed saliva on the envelope would give them a DNA profile or touch DNA on the envelope itself. However, all the labs were backed up as they were. It was going to take some time before they had the results. They suggested not opening any unfamiliar mail and making sure I remained vigilant to my surroundings since no one knew if this was personal or
Jocelyn"Oh?" I was curious what he meant.I knew he was about to lay some really heavy stuff on my shoulders, and so I buckled up mentally for the emotional roller coaster we were about to go on. My right hand immediately went to his hair--which had grown out some--caressing soothingly as I rested my other arm over his chest. I knew physical touch was important to him, and I was trying to convey my support and care through my actions so he knew I was here for him.I waited patiently for him to start. It took a few loaded minutes before he opened up."I don't really want to talk ill of the dead," he began gently."If it's true, then there is no harm or foul made," I responded softly, my fingers stroking through his hair. He closed his eyes, revering in the calming caresses."My parents got divorced when I was fairly young. I don't really reme
JocelynBy mid-week, Vince was mostly settled in and had moved the last of his belongings into the house.Tristan was starting to bring boxes over as well.I had to admit it was nice having them here. While the other tenants had been awesome, I hadn't formed a personal friendship with them. It probably had something to do with how withdrawn I had been after my husband's death. Regardless, it was nice having others on the property I could talk with and be close to.All three of them joined me on Thursday for dinner. While the conversation flowed, we could all tell Riley was off. Not to mention, Vincent was exhausted from the move and his adorable son, Jack, who was as hyper as ever. Thankfully, the little guy hadn't broken his arm. He had only badly sprained his wrist and had some deep bruising along his arm and elbow. He was in a wrist brace--which he hated and loudly protested. Which was probably one of the reasons Vince looked to be at his wits' end and looking like an exhausted pig
JocelynHow was I supposed to go back to work after that!?My body lay limp, half on, half off of the desk as Vince quickly pulled his pants back in place before turning to me. He got me cleaned up, dressed and sat back in my seat within a few minutes. He placed my coffee in my hands and told me to drink up as he stared smugly down at me."Oh shut up," I mumbled, throwing another wadded-up piece of paper at him.He chuckled before saying, "You did good." His praise caught me off guard as he pushed a few stray strands of my hair behind my ear and kissed my forehead. "You can take a nap if you want to," he offered, no teasing this time. "I can go work at the front desk for a bit so you can sleep without interruptions.""No," I shook my head. "I don't want to sleep, and I don't want to be alone.""Okay. If you change your mind, just let me know." With that, he sat behind his desk and sent out the videos. He sent them in a group chat that I was included in. When I received my phone back,

JocelynI wanted to flinch, but I couldn't. All control over my body was gone. I was barely conscious at this point.Tristan's eyes held mine intently, watching, waiting for some change. In their depths, I could see the immediate fear. Whatever they had found wasn't just some household substance. His lips kept moving. I knew he was speaking to me, but I still couldn't hear him. Finally, after a long minute, his muffled voice came through. "Stay awake."I blinked and dragged air into my lungs. I nodded, my gaze staying intently focused on him."How far out are the paramedics?" He demanded, his eyes never leaving mine."ETA is 10 minutes."He shook his head, as if that wasn't good enough, and turned to Eva. "Where are her keys?""She usually has them in her pocket or clipped to her jeans," she immediate
JocelynThe weekend went by in the blink of an eye. Riley and I helped Vince for most of it since he had Jack. The rental company had found renters for the house already and Vince had about two weeks before he had to be out.Honestly, he would be out of there with plenty of time to spare. As we packed, Vince set things aside to be donated or sold. Most of the furnishings were going to the rental since Riley and Tristan didn't have any of those things. Hell, Riley had to buy himself a bedset and mattress. He was also helping update some of the older, worn-out furniture. There wasn't a lot of time or opportunity for shenanigans.By the end of the weekend, almost the entire house was packed and ready for the movers I'd hired the following weekend, to come in and start transferring everything over to the rental home. Vince wasn't scheduled to come back until Thursday
