Amelia's POV

My grandfather found me in my office late Thursday afternoon, a leather folder tucked under his arm and an expression that told me he had already anticipated my objection before I even heard what he was about to say.

"Hart Global's annual charity gala." He said, setting the folder on my desk. "It's held every year in early autumn. This year, given the circumstances, the board feels strongly that you should attend as the company's public representative."

I glanced at the folder with

Damian's POVI sat in my office for a long time after Grace hung up, the phone still sitting in my hand like I'd forgotten how to put it down.A kid. My kid.I ran through every possible way to feel about that and landed on something I hadn't expected, not triumph, not some quiet hope that this might pull Amelia back into my life. Just a strange, heavy kind of steadiness. Like something in me had been waiting for this news for longer than I realized.Marcus knocked and stepped in a few minutes later, my expression apparently giving something away."Sir? Is everything alright?""I need you to reach out to Amelia's office." I said. "Just a message asking if she has time to talk. Whenever it works for her."He studied me for a second. "Is this about the paternity story that's been circulating?""It's confirmed." I said. "Grace called this morning. It's mine."Marcus's eyebrows went up slightly, but he didn't say

Amelia's POVI ended up not calling him at all. I texted instead, just one line.‘Can I come over? It's important. I know it's late.’His response came back faster than I expected. ‘Yeah. Come now.’I drove over in sweatpants, no makeup, hair thrown up in whatever half-knot I could manage in under a minute, because this wasn't a conversation that needed me looking put together. If anything, looking put together would've felt wrong. He opened the door before I even knocked, like he'd been standing right there waiting."You look like something's wrong." He said, stepping aside to let me in."Results came back." I said, not even bothering to sit down first. His whole body went still. "Okay.""It's Damian's."He didn't say anything for a second. Just stood there in his kitchen, one hand braced against the counter, staring at some spot on the floor like he was trying to find the right place to put his eyes."Okay." He said again, quieter this time."I wanted to tell you tonight." I said. "

Amelia's POVI sat there staring at the email for a solid five minutes before I actually clicked it.Not because I was trying to build suspense for myself. I just genuinely couldn't make my hand move. Every time I told myself to open it, some other part of my brain threw up a wall, like not knowing yet was somehow safer than actually finding out.Eventually I opened it, because sitting there frozen wasn't going to change what the results said either way.The email had a secure link, some portal I had to log into with a code they texted me separately. I fumbled through it, typed the code wrong the first time, my hands not quite steady enough to get it right on the first try.The second time worked. The page loaded slow enough that I had a few extra seconds of dread before the actual document came up. A PDF. Clinical, formal, full of percentages and probability language that took me a second to actually parse.‘Probability

Amelia's POVAdrian called at seven. I let it ring twice before I picked up, mostly because I needed those extra few seconds to figure out what I was even going to say."Hey." I said."Hey." His voice was quiet. Not cold, exactly, but not his usual warmth either. "Can I come by?""Yeah. Of course."He showed up twenty minutes later, still in the clothes he'd probably thrown on the second he saw the headline, hair not properly combed, looking like a man who hadn't slept much the night before either.I let him in and we stood in my living room for a second, neither of us saying anything, the whole thing hanging there between us like something neither of us wanted to be the one to touch first."I saw the article." He said finally."I know.""Is it true?""Some of it." I said. "I'm pregnant. That part's true. The timing thing, I don't know yet. That's why I hadn't said anything."He nodded slowly, sitting down on the arm of my couch instead of the couch itself, like he wasn't sure yet whe

Amelia's POVI didn't tell Lily right away. I know how that sounds, given she's the one who called it before I even took the test. But there's a difference between "I think I'm pregnant" and "I might be pregnant with my ex-husband's baby three weeks before I marry someone else." One of those is exciting news. The other one felt like something I needed to sit with alone first, just so I didn't fall apart in front of anyone.I lasted two days. She showed up at my apartment Thursday night with takeout and a bottle of sparkling cider, clearly assuming we'd be celebrating."Okay," she said, setting the bags down on my counter, "so are we doing gender guesses already or is that too soon?""Lily."Something in my voice must've given it away, because she stopped unpacking the food and just looked at me."What."I told her everything. The ultrasound. The measurements. The math I'd run about six different times hoping it would come out differently. By the time I finished, she sat down at my kit

  • The Wife He Divorced Became A Billionaire Heiress    CHAPTER 119

Amelia's POVI'd been throwing up for four mornings straight before I actually let myself think about what it meant.I told myself it was stress causing it. The wedding planning alone was enough to wreck anyone's stomach, caterers calling twice a day, Adrian's mother wanting input on flowers I didn't care about, Hart Global's board still adjusting to the idea that their president was about to become someone's wife again. Add the leftover exhaustion from Sophia's trial prep, and throwing up before breakfast felt almost reasonable.Lily didn't buy it for a second."You've been weird for two weeks." She said, dropping onto my office couch without asking. "Weird, tired. Weird pale. You didn't even finish your coffee yesterday, and you love that coffee more than most people.""I've had a lot going on.""Sure." She said, studying me. "When's the last time you had your period?"I opened my mouth to answer automatically, then stopped.I actually had to think about it."Oh, shit." I said quietl
