He married her to save his empire. He divorced her the moment he no longer needed her. But what if the woman he tossed aside... was the only one who ever truly loved him? Rebecca Henshaw was once Davis Gates’ devoted wife — graceful, loyal, and deeply in love. Their marriage, born from family alliance, blossomed into something real... until one tragic night, a deadly fire, and a web of lies tore them apart. Branded a murderer in her husband’s eyes, Rebecca endured years of cold silence and rejection. Now, just as she discovers she’s pregnant with his child, Davis returns home — not with love, but with divorce papers. Heartbroken and humiliated, Rebecca walks away, determined to rebuild her life far from the man who shattered it. But Davis never expected her to rise like a phoenix. Behind her soft smile lies a thriving empire, a powerful identity, and a secret that changes everything. When danger begins to stalk her, Davis steps in — not out of guilt, but something far more dangerous: love. Now he wants her back. But Rebecca is no longer the woman who once begged for his affection. She’s stronger. Smarter. And she’s not alone. Can Davis break through the walls he built — before another man takes her for good? Or is his greatest regret losing the one woman he was too blind to treasure?

"Yes, I am pregnant." Staring at the two bold lines on each of the seven pregnancy test strips on the table, I muttered to myself.
After battling constant episodes of nausea and vertigo for the previous three days, I made the decision to take an exam this morning.
My heart leaped with joy as I scanned each of the strips for the umpteenth time this morning to make sure that I was seeing right. and that I wasn't experiencing those kinds of dreams once more.
I couldn't help but wonder how my husband would feel when he learned that I was finally bringing him a treasure.
Davis Gates, my spouse, is the only heir to the Gates Group and a third-generation billionaire. I have been trying hard every day to win his heart, even though he has been aloof and uninterested in me.
Even though he has been distant from me, I have never considered abandoning our family. Now that I was expecting his child, my hopes for a change were even greater.
When the truth of my pregnancy set in, I couldn't help but laugh. My heart was swelling and on the verge of exploding with happiness, and I could feel the excitement rising inside of me.
"Pardon me, ma'am." My reverie was broken when I heard a voice say. Alba, our maid, stood there fumbling with her fingers.
"Yes, is there a problem?
"Should I serve your meal right away?" Her voice was low and pathetic as she asked.
I inhaled deeply and gave a small shake of my head. "No, I'm not yet hungry." I answered as politely as possible.
"Are you certain you're not hungry, Madam? Do you think I should offer you some water? Anticipating that at least I drank some water, she asked again.
However, no. I wouldn't. I've repeatedly told her to wait until my husband gets home before serving my food. But because he gets home late every night, she's constantly concerned that the food will go bad or that I might not eat at all.
"No need, Alba, I'm all right."
She excused herself and nodded. My mind wandered back to the beginning as she came down the stairs.
The anniversary of Davis's sister's passing was one month ago on Claudia Gate. I had erred by allowing my feelings and his sorrow to influence my decisions.
Davis had drank so much whiskey that night that he was barely able to stand and staggered into the room we used to share. His hair and clothes were completely unkempt, as if he had been hit by a car, and he smelled strongly of alcohol.
Despite my best efforts to console him, things unexpectedly got out of hand. One kiss sparked another. And we were entangled in sheets before I could stop myself. It was a raw, desperate, and painful moment rather than the tender one I had once imagined. Still, I was content.
But the following morning, my fantasies of a contented family was dashed. His disgusted expression said it all. I could still clearly remember Davis's scathing remarks.
"To flush it out, take something. I want to avoid any surprises. The following morning, when he woke up and buttoned his shirt, he had told me in an emotionless voice. At that moment, my heart shattered into irreparable fragments.
I knew he wouldn't take my disobedience lightly now that I had the test strip in my hand.
An hour has passed since dinnertime. But there was no indication that he would arrive.
I was about to grab my phone to call him when I was startled by the unexpected sound coming from the TV.
The news was in the evening. When the news anchor revealed the first headline, her voice was clear and joyous.
"Exciting news: The Gates Group is now officially Hera City's second-richest company, trailing only the Henshaw Group."
When my husband's company was mentioned, my heart skipped a beat. He has put in a great deal of effort to achieve this historic victory.
Perhaps this information, along with the fact that I am pregnant, will help to soften his aloof attitude. Maybe we could celebrate tonight—his accomplishment as well as the new life developing inside of me.
My hands shaking, I picked up my phone and dialed Davis's number. After the third ring, he picked up.
"Rebecca?" His voice was curt, but it always had a way of making my heart skip.
"Oh, Davis." He had told me that calling him nice names always annoyed him. "When will you return home? I prepared our supper. I spoke, attempting to control my nervous tremor.
He hesitated. I swear, I could practically hear him deciding if this was worth his time. At last, he said, "I'll be there. I have something for you too."
I smiled. Perhaps he was already feeling good, and this night would be the moment I'd be longing for.
I was eager for him to return home.

As I watched him enter the doorway, I grinned broadly. He was tall, attractive, and well-dressed in his CEO uniform, giving him a commanding presence. In his jet-black hair and navy blue tie that complemented his eyes, he looked absolutely stunning.
I had everything planned out and would tell him the good news over dinner. Although he would initially be taken aback, the happiness of being a father would surpass all other feelings.
"Oh, you've returned home." Greetings. I walked over to give him a gentle greeting. Slowly, he huffed grumpily as he stiffened in my hands. That gave me the signal to let go.
I whispered, "Tonight, I made your favorite." His expression was one of disgust and disinterest as he frowned. However, I wasn't going to let that depress me.
"We must speak. Join me. He said, inviting me to study with him. His jaw appeared clenched, suggesting a serious issue, and I saw that he was holding a rectangular envelope in his hand.
What was happening? At the moment, was there anything to fear? What was he hoping to talk about?
I took a deep breath to help me relax even though my heartbeat was gradually getting faster.
"Is something wrong?" I inquired, uncomfortable. I became even more concerned as he sighed and scowled, looking uneasy.
SIX YEARS LATERRebecca’s POV“Mom, this is where you grew up?” My son, Japheth, asked, making me smile. After the drama with Davis, I decided to open a fashion company with my family's support. To my greatest surprise, Caleb decided to help me, and even became my partner, even though he had his own companies to manage. In the early years of serendipity fashion, Caleb and I encountered dating rumors due to the fact that he was always with me. Some people accused me of dating my brother-in-law while playing the victim to make my ex-husband get bashed. The jealous Davis who once came to make a scene at the studio made it even worse. So, we decided to move the head office abroad and finally returned today. The kids recognize Caleb as their dad since he's the one who has been there from the beginning.I felt someone pulling at my sleeves, making my attention return to the present. “Mom, what do you think?” I immediately felt confused because I had not been listening to them. Before I
I caught sight of the bone of contention and pushed her aside, stomping towards him. “Davis! You asked me to keep our divorce a secret while you already…” I didn't finish my words before I heard Louisa's soft yelp. My hand which was holding his arm, as I tried to turn Davis around, slipped off, and wine splashed all over my body, same time I lost my footing and crashed to the floor.I blinked in shock; my surprise overshadowed the pain I felt at colliding with the hard floor. Davis had caught Louisa and was fervently wiping off the little smudge of wine from her gown, totally ignoring me. “Davis,” I whispered, my voice filled with pain and disbelief. “You bitch! You can't wait a day without causing trouble, is that it? Apologize to Louisa immediately!” Davis growled, giving me a deadly stare. I caught sight of Louisa's smug smile and immediately realized what happened. She noticed that I wanted to confront Davis about the things she told me and rushed to turn the table on me. Onc
“Welcome madam.” The valet at the hotel entrance greeted me as I entered the premises. Today was the official banquet of the Gates Group. They were celebrating their new milestone. “Mrs Gates, congratulations. You indeed made the right choice. Your husband is full of surprises.” A woman who was trying to make small talk said, rushing to me with a glass of wine. Her words which were aimed at flattery landed like Thor's hammer on my chest, making me feel suffocated. And I couldn't blame her for being ironic since everyone else thought that Davis and I were still the perfect couple. I forced an insincere smile to my face and made my way into the party with the woman following behind me, her face filled with flattery. Soon, another woman joined. “Ah! Mrs Gates, you're glowing. Your husband is taking good care of you. You keep getting more beautiful by the day.”“Of course, Mr Davis loves his wife the most. Can't you see how in love they are?”“You must be so proud of your husband, he
“I need you to sign these…” He growled in a low tone as he hurled a stack of documents that he was holding at me.The cold and disgusted expression on his face made me even more nervous than I already was. I didn't have a good feeling at all. “Divorce papers?” I screeched, my voice high-pitched and unpleasant even to my ears as I read the content of the document. My heart suddenly started beating erratically as I felt lightheaded, my vision turned blurry. The pounding headache I felt made me wonder if I was about to experience a heart attack. “Sign them and leave the rest of the official processes for me to handle. I already signed my part.” Davis coldly preseed, folding his hands across his chest as he leaned unbothered again at the kitchen counter.“What's wrong with you? Why will you ask for a divorce today of all days?” I shouted, my voice breaking midway as I felt a sharp pain in my belly. He stepped closer, his deadly gaze boring into mine. “And what's so special about today
