VALERIE’S POV
“Ma’am?” Rob, my assistant, called out for the third time since we arrived at the building for the signing. We were currently at the underground parking lot kept specially for VVIPs, and it's been almost 30 minutes already. Still, i couldn’t find it in me to get down from the car. Trust me, this was not the first time I had to come for a partnership signing, but this was the first time I would be seeing Hudson after our divorce. If I said I wasn’t tense about it, I would be lying. It’s been 5 years already, but it still seemed like yesterday. The memories of him and his family were still fresh on my mind. And especially today, it felt more like an open wound. Liam had repeatedly offered to come on my behalf, to save me the heartache, but I refused. This was my fight. After my experience with them, I fought constantly to be who I was today. Building up my walls and confidence that they had so ruthlessly trampled upon. And I most definitely could not let one meeting shatter all those efforts. I was no longer that girl living as Hudson’s wife as her only identity, I was now Valerie Ann Marie Hernandez and the youngest female CEO of the number one leading brand in the city. And with that, I opened the door. “Let’s go!” “Oh, yes ma’am” Rob quickly closed the door, flustered by my sudden announcement. Within minutes, we were in the elevator and waiting for it to open up at the very top floor of the building which was used for the event. Sounds of soft classical music could be heard as we got closer. I bet the designs of the hall would be just exquisite. Hudson had always been one for peculiarities and excellence. Less than a minute later, the doors opened, and we stepped out. “The CEO of De Hernandez Dreamz is here!" Someone yelled out, and immediately, several camera lights started clicking at me. It was so bad that my men and a few shareholders that came with me had to form a shield around me to stop the reporters. With a deep breath, I walked confidently into the hall. Mumblings of me being the CEO of such a huge business at 26 filled the air. But I didn’t give a shit, I was used to it by now. The hall truly was exceptional, with a red carpet at the center separating several sets of glass round tables and chairs that were already served with champagne. Several crystal lights hung from the ceilings that gave the imitation of a lit up sky. The stage, right in front, seemed like it held a thousand crystals had been installed there, constantly reflecting in the bright colors of the chandeliers in the hall, paired with a dignified podium at the center. It was breathtaking. The crowd parted as we stepped deeper into the hall, silent whispers following us. Every step I took brought me closer and closer to Him, until I was finally standing right in front of him. Hudson. My dear ex-husband. And he looked dashing, no lies there. His well tailored dark blue suit, that seemed to make his dirty blonde hair brighter than I remembered, framed his body. Displaying his just how sculptured he would look underneath, coupled with his painfully chiseled jawline that now had on a little mustache. Somehow enhancing his gorgeous features.
'But all that gorgeousness, only held a disgusting character underneath.' I immediately reminded myself before finally stopping in front of him.
His musky scented cologne instantly hitting me like a ton of bricks. So strong that it filled my lungs as we stood within radius of a handshake. But i remianed still, confidently holding the gaze of that familiar electrifying blue eyes that I used to love so bad. But right now, all they held was every atom of disbelief a human being could possibly muster and that fuelled me on! I bet he never expected this.I had imagined this very moment, over and over. Nervous out of mind! But now I was here? I felt nothing but hatred for him. “Nice to meet you Mr. Rodriguez”, I said sternly, and stretched out my hand for a handshake.
He just stood still; eyes wide as he took in my appearance. After about a minute, his assistant nudged him a bit, and he immediately took my hands, caressing them a little before letting go. His palms still held that soothing warmth that I used to crave, and I silently cussed myself for remembering such a detail. Before he could get a word out, I spun on my heel and greeted other important guests. For the rest of the evening, Hudson repeatedly tried to get my attention or talk to me, but I made sure not to give him none. This was strictly business. As far as I was concerned, I didn't know him at all. “Congratulations Miss Hernandez” “Thank you” I said softly with a smile to at least the 100th person I had greeted today. “You should make an introduction, you’re the star of the event.” One of the men suggested with glee. “As well as Mr. Rodriguez, of course”, he quickly added, smiling sheepishly after a glance behind me. I looked behind and the deadly stare from Hudson at the man said it all. As if on cue, he turned to me, his lips paused in an underlying annoyance. And i instantly knew it had something to do with my absolute disregard towards him.And now that i think about it, that man from earlier was right.
Without so much as a glance at him, I walked calmly to the podium. My heels clacking on the white tiles of the stage and that grabbed attention. The gathering growing quiet as I adjusted the mic, many took their seats and with a quick sweep of the crowd with my eyes, holding Hudson’s burning gaze a few seconds longer, I began… “Good day ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for making out time to bear witness to this partnership between Greenland Holdings and De Hernandez Dreamz.” I smiled softly as they clapped. “I am Valerie Ann Maria Hernandez, Granddaughter to the president of De Hernandez Dreamz, and I am the CEO of De Hernandez Dreamz.” A series of ‘wow” filled the air and claps resounded everywhere. On cue, Rob offered me a glass of champagne. “A toast! To a new season and growth. A toast! To every one of you and a toast to you, Mr. Rodriguez, my partner. Cheers!” “Cheers!” they chorused. Holding Hudson’s burning gaze, in the gathering I took a sip, the look of disbelief on his features boosting my growing excitement. “Have a wonderful evening ladies and gentlemen”, I concluded with a bright smile and walked elegantly to the table of documents that required my signature. Series of clapings and camera flashes following my every step. “That was wonderful, ma’am”, Rob whispered, less than a step behind me. His eyes shunned with an undiluted support and pride, as i smiled back at him. He had been an unwavering support system throughout these years. “Let’s leave immediately after this.” I whispered back with a small smile. He gave a curt nod in confirmation and stepped aside as we approached a waiting Hudson at the table. And after about an hour or so, “Done?” I asked Hudson, with an eyebrow arched. "No," he said, narrowing his eyes. "Actually long time no see, Valerie", spitting out my name with distaste. I looked at him quizzically,"I'm afraid you have the wrong person, Mr... [pretending to scan the documents] Rodriguez. I'm Valerie Ann Maria Hernandez, CEO of De Hernandez Dreamz." Hudson's mouth parted in disbelief "Valerie you..." he paused and released a breath before speaking lowly, hands in his pockets and venom lacing his every word "I have been watching you all evening, and i'm starting to think that you're pretending not to know me" My eyebrows furrowed in fake confusion, "I'm afraid I don't have the pleasure of knowing you, Mr. Rodriguez." The muscles in his jaw ticked in annoyance at my words and I smirked. Totally enjoying his displeasure. "Though I must say, you do seem quite... familiar." "Familiar?" he repeated, his voice rising in outrage. "You really are playing dumb, aren't you, Valerie? Think you can just dismiss me?" My eyes just narrowed at his display, noting he had taken more steps towards me to stand in my face. "Mr. Rodriguez." I started, my voice firm and measured. "I'd advise you to tone down on the aggression - you're speaking with the CEO of Hernandez Dreamz after all." Hudson's blue eyes literally went a shade darker just then, his face leaning into mine. "Oh, I'm shaking in my boots. The little gold-digger is trying to act tough." he sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "You're nothing but a pretty face, Valerie. Do you think you can just waltz in here and pretend to be a businesswoman?" Huh! The nerves... Anger boiled inside of me at those words, my fists clenching as i closed the distance between us. "That's enough, Rodriguez." I warned lowly, my gaze never leaving his," I suggest you focus on the contract at hand, rather than making baseless accusations. You're the one that wanted to sign a partnership with De Hernandez Dreamz, not the other way around, remember that!" I smirked as he clenched his jaw in anger, his electrifying blue eyes shooting daggers at me. If any of the guests were looking, I'm pretty sure we looked just about close enough to be kissing. "Fine!" he spat with a scowl. "But this isn't over, Valerie. I'll make sure everyone knows the truth about you and your little company." "Oh, I'm shaking in my boots", I taunted him with a mock smile, slanting my eyes to the signed documents on the table beside us, and back at him, straight in the eyes, enjoying the fact that he mirrored my movements. “It’s clear you lack apt knowledge of the contract you just signed." I sneered, empasising on knowledge. "Be careful though, I might just end up with everything you have when I sue you for damages” His eyes widened a bit at my words, but it only made my smile bigger. Mission accomplished!“Enjoy the rest of the evening, Mr. Rodriguez,” I droned, stepping away from him just then. Rob showig up behind me, barely doing enough to hide his silent chuckles as he glanced at Hudson's boiling features. And just like that, i was done for the evening. Waltzing my way out of the event.

HUDSON'S POV“Angelina Rodriguiez.” Val whispered, “Angelina Rodriguiez, our Angel.”“Yeah,” I agreed softly, my eyes falling back on Val as I watched her smile fondly at the sleeping child just beside us in a crib. My heart warming as I took in the view- my queen staring at my angel. My queen… she had to be the most beautiful woman in the world, right? Cause how could she not be? I mean, look at her right now, it’s like she’s glowing. With this warm light all over her despite the tiredness at the edge of her eyes. She still looked so beautiful, so warm and strong. The strongest woman I have ever seen.Independent, smart, beautiful, elegant in every sense! An amazing mother too, birthing and raising 3 kids all alone for 5 years. Running an entire company by the side, while still looking so fit!A damn sexy ass boss, God!I could feel my heart swelling with pride the more I stared at her unsuspecting self. Taking in the artwork the heavens decided to bless me with… I was so damn lucky.
HUDSON'S POV“Our new guest has arrived!” The nurse gushed, pushing its wheels just beside Val. Where I had been occupying before now.“Awww, how precious!” Nanny Beth cooed softly, moving to towards it. Everyone doing so too, all except me. I just stood by the side, smiling as everyone got a view of our fairy. As if feeling everyone’s gaze, our baby stirred in her bundle. Her soft cooing’s filling the air, and getting several rounds of awwn from both Val and Nanny Beth. The rest just smiled, especially the men. James and Henry, whose eyes were already brimming with unshed tears. And as for the kids, “Is that… is that our baby sister, mommy?” Miley’s soft voice reached my ears, “Is that my baby sister?”“She’s so small,” Aby joined, her big eyes twinkling as the baby was lifted out of the crib and gently placed in Val’s arms.“And so shining,”“And pink!” Miley and Miles whispered at once, both of them lost in awe of the small being now brought directly in front of their eyes.“A tiny
HUDSON’S POV“The kids are safe! And so is Nanny Beth” I assured Val, trying to explain.“We had taken two cars, remember? We took two cars, mine and your Papa’s, because you couldn’t sit at the front due to pregnancy and we couldn’t all fit at the back seat with the kids. Me, you, your Papa, James and Nanny Beth all at the same time.”“Oh,” was all that left her lips, the memory coming back to her as she slowly relaxed back down on the bed. I didn’t want her moving or doing anything after everything she just went through from both the labor and with pushing out the baby.“We didn’t leave them, we just arrived here earlier than they did.” I continued, easing her down. “They will be here soon don’t worry. I just texted James the address.”She just nodded in response, her eyes looking a bit drowsy as she laid on the bed. “Is it okay if she sleeps? She looks really tired,” I asked a nurse, the only one still present.Apparently, she stayed back to keep watch and ensure Val’s vitals were
VALERIE’S POVSIX MONTHS LATER“Wah... what’s happening?”“Why isn’t the car moving anymore? Hudson!!” I screamed out his name, my breath both labored and unstable as I literally tried to hold onto anything for support. Anything at all, as long it could elevate the searing pain that seemed to tear through me at every 30 seconds.Just then, the car door flung open, presenting a very alarmed looking Hudson. “Val!” He cried out, slightly panicky at first to see me sprawled out on the back seat as I was unable to sit still anymore. “Val… love, we’re here. We’re here at the hospital; you will be fine. You will be totally fine!”“Oh God…” I moaned painfully as another wave of contraction hit me, not even letting me register the help Hudson’s hands wanted to give to me right now. Forcing me to slap him away as I cried out in pains. All I felt was pain, everything hurt!Every damned thing, and the more I stayed breathless on these back seats the crazier I became with pain. “Oh God, Huds…Hudson
HUDSON’S POV“I’m pregnant, Hudson!” her words echoed in my ears, my mind not believing it as I stood there watching her calmly reach the living room without me.Pregnant.Did she- did she just say she was pregnant?Like pregnant, we are having a baby pregnant?“Oh my God,” I found myself muttering, a smile slowly making its way to my lips as she winked at me from her spot on the couch. “Oh my… OH MY GOD!”At my outburst she chuckled, covering her lips to hide her smiles.I didn’t even realize when I started hurrying towards her, my steps literally the fastest i had been. Like ever! And when I reached her on the couch, I just tackled her to a hug. Uncontrollable laughter leaving my lips as I turned her over that she was on my chest. Her elated chuckles filling the air, matching mine, honey brown waves cascading all over us. Longer than I even remembered but I wouldn’t have it any other way.Something else was far more important. Way more important! We were having a baby! An actual baby
