Jessica hand trembled as she held the hospital bill, The numbers blurring together under the weight of her panic. Her father's illiness had drained what little saving they had and every month brought another letter from the creditors. The phone calls never stopped, Each one was a reminder that were drowning, And she was powerless.

"Jessica." her mother said, voice tight with worry. "We can't keep borrowing something has to be done. You know what the offer is"

Jessica closed her eyes, swallowing the lump in her throat. She did know, The contract marriage proposal. Five years with Michael. A man she barely knew, marriage without love. A deal to save her family, And how her father's eyes were on her, expecting her to sacrifice herself. Her chest ached. Not from fear of Micheal but From the weight of responsibility.

"I don't know if I can do it,"she whispered.

Her father lying weakly in the hospital bed cough and managed a strained smile.

"Jessica.... You're our only hope." Hope. The word twisted in her chest, She had never imagined that love could be measured in money, that her marriage could be a contract, that her family's survival could rest on tirely on her shoulders.

Meanwhile, Across town Michael sat in his office reviewing a report he could barely focus on. His mother's words were still ringing in his ears

"You need to marry. The company name must be secured. it time to do your duty."

Michael clenched his jaw. He had everything, money, power, influence but now his life felt like it was no longer his own, Duty, Responsibility. A contract marriage with a stranger. He had never considered marrying to be a business transaction. But his mother was relentless.

THE MEETING

The next day, Jessica arrived at KINGS WAY HOTEL, her stomach twisting in knots. She had spent the night unable to sleep, starring at the ceiling imaging what it would feel like to sign her life away.

She tried not to let it show, But when she saw Michael waiting in the corner, impeccably dressed, Dark eyes unreadable her heart betrayed her with a thought she couldn't hide. She inhaled sharply.

"Come in, Michael said his voice smooth and controlled.

She wanted to retreat, To tell him she couldn't do this, But she forced herself forward. Every step toward him felt like walking across thin ice.

In the main study, Michael mother waited perched like a Queen on a velvet Chair, her sharp eye's flicking to Jessica the moment she entered , Assessing judging waiting for any signs of weakness.

"You know why you're here." she said coldly. "Five years, The rules are clear. Do this for your family." Jessica throat tightened, she thought of her father weak and pale at home, of the hospital bills stacking higher everyday. Of the creditors voice on phone threatening and relentless of her mother silent tears.

She wanted to say something but the reality of her family's survival crushed all courage.

Michael stepped closer, close enough that she could see the faint storm in his eyes, The tension in his jaw.

"This is serious."he murmured, his voice low , almost Intimate. "Once you sign there's no turning back."

Jessica heart slammed against her ribcage.

Her hand shook as she signed. The ink spread across the paper, Like fire through her veins. She had done it Five years. A contract marriage No love. Just survival.

Michael signed too. His pen deliberate, almost slow enough to make her breathe catch.

He glanced at her briefly and she caught something there. A flicker of curiosity? Or something more dangerous? She quickly looked away, trying to calm her racing pulse.

His mother clapped her hands softly "it's done," She said " The money will be deposited immediately.

Jessica Exhaled, relief and dread mixing in her chest. Her family would survive. But at what cost? The thought of sharing a life, even temporarily with a man she barely knew, whose every glance made her stomach flip,  Terrified her.

THE HOUSE

Jessica hands rapidly shake as she stepped into the grand Kensington's house, Her suitcase dragging behind her,  The polished floors gleamed. The walls were so clean, they seemed to judge her. The faint scent of cedar and wealth made her chest tighten.

The front door opened behind her. Her heart jumped

Michael walked in, Still in his suit sleeves rolled slightly, phone pressed to his ear. He didn't notice her at first

"Reschedule the meeting." he said calmly, " I'll be in New York Tomorrow." his voice smooth, controlled Professional. He ended the call and finally looked at her. Their eyes met for a second.

JESSICA expected something, a smile, a welcome or anything. But he only nodded politely

"You're room is down the Hall." He said "separate bedrooms, Same rules as we agreed".

Jessica throat tightened. She had known it wouldn't be easy. She had agreed to this, Five years, strict rules. No love, No feelings.

But hearing it out loud made the walls of this house feel colder and heavier than she imagined.

She nodded silently, het heart pounding, She wasn't ready for this, Not really. Not ever. But she had no choice.

As she walked to her room, dragging her suitcase along the echoing hallway a thought struck her. One she couldn't shake.

I'm not just entering a house, I'm entering a life I never wanted

The door clicked shut behind her, She leaned against it, taking a shaking breath starring at the city lights outside, beautiful and completely a unbothered by what she had just done.

She knew her heart was about to be tested in ways she couldn't yet imagine.

THAT NIGHT

Jessica set her bag down Quickly in the corner of her room and pressed her hands against her knees, trying to steady her breathing.

The house was quiet. Too quiet.  And the silence felt heavy, like it was pressing against her chest. She had expected Michael to be distant. Cold, even . But tonight felt different. It wasn't just distance it felt like a wall she couldn't reach no matter how hard she tried.

She thought of small gesture, the tiny things that might soften the coldness between them.

A cup of coffee and biscuits, something to remind him she still existed in his world.

She carried the tray to the living room, Michael was at the grand desk, papers spread before him, the lamp casting Sharp shadow's across his face, She hesitanted, heart rising in her chest

She placed the tray on the edge of his desk with a soft clink, The warmth of the cup a stark contrast to the chill in the room, She stood there a moment longer than necessary.

But Michael was already lost in the paperwork In front of him, His silence more suffocating than ever.

He glanced up briefly cold and unreadable, Then returned to his work. No Thank you, No Smile, Just the Sharp edges of him. And it cut through her like glass.

He gaze filickered to her again, just for a second. Then it's was gone, buried beneath the cold mask he wore so easily. But she had seen it, Something deeper like a storm threatening to break

Jessica felt that familiar Sting of disappointment. But she didn't retreat instead she studied him quietly, painfully aware that there was something in his eyes tonight that coldness couldn't quite hide

  • The Wife he Never loved    WHAT WAS ALREADY DONE

Michael was home before her. He'd arrived ten minutes early and spent eight of them sitting in the car.She saw his car in the driveway before she reached the gate. It was already past nine. She stood outside for a moment, her hand resting on the key. She wasn't hesitating; she just needed one steady breath before walking inside. The kitchen was quiet except for the sound of the kettle and a cupboard closing. He turned when he heard her. Two mugs sat on the counter. She looked at them, then at him. He looked exhausted. He picked up both mugs and carried them to the table."Sit down," he said. "We need to talk."Jessica's stomach tightened. Every time he said those words, something went wrong. She walked past him, almost halfway to her room. "Jessica." His voice stopped her. He held her gaze."I'm going to tell you everything," he said. "All of it."Jessica leaned back against the doorframe and stared at him. They sat across from each other. Something had changed before either of them sa

  • The Wife he Never loved    THE SURVEILLANCE FILE

Michael waited until the house was quiet.Jessica had gone upstairs hours ago. He'd heard her bedroom door close, followed by the silence that always settled over the house at night. He went into the study and closed the door behind him.The file was waiting on his desk.It was thick. Neatly bound. Weeks of work from the investigator he'd hired. He rested his hand on the cover. He had waited weeks for the investigator to finish. Now that the file was sitting in front of him, he couldn't make himself open it.He sat down, took a slow breath, and opened the first page.Samson Loe.The name stared back at him.He kept reading.Samson had been eight when his father joined the Makadi Street project. Arthur Loe had put everything into it—his savings, his company, even the family home. When the project collapsed, the Loes lost everything.Michael frowned. Then he saw his father's name.ARTHUR KENSINGTONHe stopped. The signature beneath it was familiar. • The Wife he Never loved    THE FIRST THREAD

Jessica left the hospital an hour after her shift ended.Instead of walking toward the bus stop, she crossed the road.A taxi slowed beside her."Where to?" She opened the note on her phone.Makadi Street.Daniel Osei.Dad's case. She looked at the names for one last second before locking her phone."The City Records Office."The driver nodded and pulled into traffic.—The building looked older than she expected.Paint peeled from the walls. The sign above the entrance had faded years ago.Inside, the air smelled of paper and dust.An elderly woman sat behind a high counter, reading over a stack of files.Jessica waited until the woman looked up."Can I help you?" "I hope so."The woman smiled politely. "What are you looking for?"Jessica opened her mouth.Nothing came out."I'm looking for…” "I'm trying to find information about an old property company." "What company?" She pressed her lips together. "I only have one name." "Let's start there." "Daniel Osei."The woman reached for a keyboard. Her

  • The Wife he Never loved    THE CONNECTION

His grip on the paper hardened."I should've seen this sooner."The lawyer didn't speak.Michael reached for his phone. His father's number. The line rang..No answer. The call dropped into voicemail. Michael lowered the phone without leaving a message. The office was silent. The lawyer glanced at the file on the desk."Do you want me to keep these?"Michael looked down at the copies. The paper was brittle. The edges had yellowed.Someone had folded those pages so many times the creases were beginning to tear."No."He stacked the papers together and slipped them back into the brown file. "I'm taking them." The lawyer studied him. "You think you'll find something?"Michael fastened the file and picked it up."I missed it once."He looked at the note one last time. "I'm not missing it again."Without another word, he turned and walked out.The lawyer watched the office door close.A second later, the sound of Michael's footsteps disappeared down the hallway.___An hour laterJessica almost wal

She stood outside the front door for a moment. Her fingers tightened around the keys before she unlocked it.The house was so quiet the click of the door echoed behind her.She slipped off her shoes."Jessica.” She looked up.His jacket was gone. His sleeves were rolled to his forearms, but the creases from the day were still there. For a second, neither of them moved."Come with me.” he said.Jessica held his gaze. Nothing. Not even the smallest crack in the face she had spent a year trying to read. His expression didn't change. The shadows beneath his eyes were darker tonight."You said we needed to talk," she said quietly. "I know."He nodded toward the study."Come in."She hesitated only a moment before following him.The room smelled faintly of coffee. The curtains were still open, letting the last light of evening spill across the floor.
