Chapter 3

Penulis: Luminous Pear
I took the phone from Liam and looked down at the screen.

The photo was blurry, but I could still make out the outline of an old hospital. Behind it stood a towering mountain, dark and endless beneath the night sky.

The last message read, [I'm here. I'm scared. Let's talk tomorrow. Good night.]

"Olivia!"

Liam suddenly broke down.

"I know Munskar did this! He's trying to force you to agree!"

"Don't panic."

"How can I not panic?"

He pressed his forehead against the cold floor, desperately gripping his hair.

"Every year, witches are sent to Snow Town, and some of them never make it back. She's just a girl. How is she supposed to survive there? Please, Olivia. I know you hate Munskar. But Ophelia is innocent. Why is she being dragged into this?"

He cried so hard his shoulders shook violently.

"You can hit me or yell at me. I don't care. Please, save my daughter!"

I reached down and helped him to his feet.

"Liam, get up. I promise you, Ophelia will be safe."

Liam froze, tears still shining in his eyes.

"Then you... agree to save Vivian?"

"I have another way."

I patted his shoulder.

"Trust me. Ophelia will be fine. But I'm still not accepting this mission."

Liam's lips parted. Whatever he wanted to say got caught in his throat.

Then suddenly, the roar of engines filled the night. Two beams of headlights cut through the darkness.

The entire Herbalist Guild shook from the force of the approaching vehicle.

A car with a special license plate came to a stop outside the guild entrance. The chrome emblem on the hood reflected the streetlights, shining with an almost blinding arrogance.

The car had barely come to a complete stop before the door was yanked open.

Munskar stepped out in a black coat, the collar of his white shirt perfectly straight. Behind him followed two bodyguards dressed in black, along with a shewolf wearing a cashmere coat.

It was Timora.

Ten years had passed, yet time seemed to have left no mark on her. She still looked just as delicate and fragile as before.

After all, she was the shewolf Munskar cherished for more than twenty years.

Munskar carefully helped her out of the car, making sure she stepped down safely in her high heels.

It was them.

I turned around and looked at Liam.

Fear and rage battled across his face. His fists tightened, his knuckles cracking under the pressure.

"Olivia, they brought bodyguards with them..."

"It doesn't matter."

I put on my witch's robe, fastened the clasps, and pulled a mask over my face.

"Let's go."

Munskar stood in the courtyard, his gaze sweeping over the rust-covered iron gate.

Then his eyes landed on me, but he didn't recognize me.

How could he?

The gentle, long-haired mate he had known ten years ago had cut her hair short.

"Who is Olivia?"

Munskar's voice carried the impatience and authority of someone who was used to standing above everyone else.

Liam instinctively glanced in my direction.

I stepped forward.

"It's me."

Munskar finally looked at me properly.

"You?"

"Me."

The corner of his lips lifted as he let out a cold laugh. Then, he turned his head and quietly gave a few orders to the bodyguards beside him.

When he finished, those emotionless eyes shifted toward Liam.

"And you must be Liam. Your daughter is at the hospital in Snow Town. She's doing fairly well."

"Ten years ago, I abused my position as Alpha and took away the only antidote that could have saved a life. My decision cost my own daughter her life. I failed her and Olivia. Today, I stand here to offer them my deepest remorse. If I could turn back time, I would never make the same choice again."After saying those words, he bowed deeply. He stayed that way for a long time, never lifting his head.Timora also stepped onto the podium.Through her tears, she admitted the truth. She confessed that she had deliberately staged Vivian's fall back then and deceived Munskar into taking away the antidote. The moment the press conference aired, all werewolf packs erupted."I never thought Munskar would be the worst Alpha our pack has ever had.""He was willing to abandon even his own daughter. How heartless can someone be?""Shouldn't we be condemning Timora too? She created a lie and cruelly caused the death of a five-year-old pup. How can she live with herself?""They need to be puni

Munskar's and Timora's eyes lit up instantly, looking like two mutts drowning who had suddenly found a rock to cling to."But I have conditions."I looked at them, my gaze cold and unwavering."First, tomorrow at ten in the morning, you will publicly apologize to me at the pack council meeting. You will admit that ten years ago, you abused your authority, took away the antidote, and caused my daughter's death. Second, you will voluntarily step down as Alpha and accept an investigation. "Third, Timora will admit the truth about what happened back then. You will admit that you deliberately deceived Munskar into taking the antidote away."Timora's face turned deathly pale."No! That's not true! I didn't do it on purpose!""Whether you did or not, you know the answer better than anyone."My gaze turned icy."I checked the surveillance footage from the Healing Grove back then. Vivian didn't even have a scratch on her knee after she fell. However, you still insisted that Munskar se

Everyone turned toward the voice.A werewolf in a black suit slowly walked over, several lawyers following behind him. Each carried a briefcase in their hand.He stopped beside me and pulled out a business card, handing it to Damian."I'm Olivia's attorney. Whatever the matter is, discuss it with me."Damian accepted the card. When his eyes landed on the name printed on it, his expression shifted slightly.Thorne Law—a name known throughout all the packs. He was a legendary figure who specialized in administrative disputes, with a perfect record since the beginning of his career.Munskar's face turned livid."Mr. Law, this is an internal matter. You'd better stay out of it."Thorne replied in a calm and unwavering tone, "Munskar, I am Olivia's legal representative. Protecting my client's legal rights is my responsibility. All toxic substances in my client's possession have complete documentation. They were obtained legally and are fully compliant with regulations. You have no a

When we returned to the herb room, Liam finally couldn't hold back his question."Olivia, you planned for all of this?"I nodded, then I poured him a glass of water."From the moment I received the mission, I knew he would try something like this. So, I contacted someone I saved in the past. By now, Ophelia should have already arrived at his place. I asked him to keep an eye on her. The moment anything happened, he was to take her away immediately."Liam accepted the glass, but his hands wouldn't stop shaking."Thank you for saving my daughter, Olivia.""You don't have to thank me."I looked out the window."You've stayed by my side for six years. I won't let you get dragged into my problems.""But..."Liam hesitated."Munskar won't let this go. He'll definitely find another way to force you."I didn't even blink."I know. I'm waiting for it."Just as I expected, it didn't take long before a heavy, urgent pounding echoed from the iron gate outside.Along with it came Mun

Munskar never expected that I had already prepared for this."What exactly do you want?""I don't want anything."I calmly lowered the glass vial and hung it back around my neck."I already told you. I'm not doing it. Now leave. Transfer Ophelia back to the Healing Grove in the city, and withdraw the order to shut down the Herbalist Guild. After that, we go our separate ways, and we leave each other alone.""No!"Timora screamed at the top of her lungs."My daughter is still in the Healing Grove fighting for her life. You have to save her!""That's your daughter, not mine."I gave her a cold glance."Ten years ago, when Vivian got nothing more than a small injury, Nora was dying in the emergency room. Back then, why didn't you ask Munskar to save the antidote for Nora?"Timora was speechless. Her lips pressed tightly together as tears streamed down her face. She turned to Munskar, her voice breaking as she cried."Munskar, look at her! She's doing this on purpose! She just

As soon as I finished speaking, the air froze.Munskar's laughter came to an abrupt stop. The smug satisfaction on his face hadn't even faded before it twisted into pure disbelief. He clearly never expected me to say something so reckless.Timora's face went pale. The hand clutching Munskar's arm tightened suddenly, her nails digging into his skin."Munskar, she is insane! A crazy witch like her will do anything! Vivian can't die!"She screamed without restraint.A dark, vicious look settled in Munskar's eyes. He glared at me and hissed through gritted teeth, "You wouldn't dare.""Try me."My voice remained calm."Nora has been waiting for me in the afterlife for ten years. I've lived long enough. If I can drag you and the one you love most down with me, it'll be worth it."I raised my hand and pulled the silver necklace from around my neck.Inside the tiny vial hanging from it was a drop of liquid, shimmering like a piece of morning dew trapped in glass."This contains con
