MasukThe moment I close the door behind me, I lean against it and sink to the floor, the heavy bag thudding beside me as I drop it.
Crap. I grip my head in pure devastation, thoughts swirling so fast my skull feels like it's buzzing. What the hell was I going to do? Those guys looked like they could tear through me with a flick of their fingers. Or their sharp swords. Ash's words echo in my head. "You will die." I shiver. How the fuck was I supposed to cure this Luna person when I didn't have the slightest clue how? I lift my gaze and scan the small room. A single bed sits near the back beside a wardrobe. White walls surround me, and a crimson rug covers the floor. I wasn't a damn witch. I knew nothing about magic. Not a single thing. But I had to try, or I'd end up in the fire like a roasted pig again. I stand abruptly, my chest heaving with panicked breaths. Okay. Think, Rose. Catherine was a witch, and I was in Catherine's body. Wouldn't that mean I had some magic in me too? It was possible. I chew on my lip, turning the idea over before shooting my hand forward, slicing through the air like those cool anime characters casting a spell. "Fire, come forth!" I shout, pointing at the first object I see. The nightstand. I wait for something to happen. Then I wait some more. Nothing. Absolutely fucking nothing. Back to square one. Panic mode. I pace the room, staring at the crimson rug beneath my feet. I need something, anything that could help me now. But what? My eyes dart to the bag I abandoned on the floor. Suzy, please tell me you packed something that will get me out of this mess. I dive for the bag and haul it over to the bed, dropping it onto the rough mattress. I untie the cord around it and look inside. Clothes. A brush. A toothbrush. Some sort of container filled with smooth liquid. An apple. And beneath it all, an old box. I pause, taking the long, rectangular box in my hands. It's made of rough wood, its uneven texture scratching lightly against my fingertips. A dragon is carved into the lid, wings spread wide, sharp claws curling beneath its body. Beneath the dragon, a single name is carved into the wood. Marvin. I slowly pull the lid open. Nestled inside is a wand. My eyes light up instantly, and I carefully lift it from the box. The moment my fingers close around it, a strange warmth spreads through my palm. What the... I glance down at the wand. For a moment, nothing happens. Then a faint pulse travels through my hand and creeps up my wrist like a tiny spark beneath my skin. I almost drop it. I'm about to raise it to cast a spell when... Knock. Knock. Knock. I jolt on the bed and snap my head up. "I'm coming in," Mika's gruff voice calls from the other side. The door bursts open. Cold blue eyes lock onto me as Mika steps into view, still wearing the same attire as before. "I hope you're ready." He narrows his eyes, as though he'd rather be anywhere but here. "We're meeting the Luna." My blood runs cold. Fuck. I still have no idea how to use magic. And it seems my time to figure it out has just run out.The moment I close the door behind me, I lean against it and sink to the floor, the heavy bag thudding beside me as I drop it.Crap.I grip my head in pure devastation, thoughts swirling so fast my skull feels like it's buzzing. What the hell was I going to do?Those guys looked like they could tear through me with a flick of their fingers. We’d been walking in silence. The only sound in the narrow hall was the echo of our footsteps against the marble floor.I watched his back silently. It was broad, but not overly so, just enough to make his cape look ridiculously good on him as it swayed from side to side.Kind of like those hot manhwa guys who were always brooding but somehow still managed to look sexy.I caught that shameless thought, shoved it into a box, and sent it flying into outer space.Focus, Rose.I needed to figure out what these people wanted from me, and ogling this man wasn’t exactly going to help me find that out.“So,” I began boredly, “this Luna.”I watched him continue walking forward, almost as if he weren’t even listening to a single word I was saying.“What exactly does she need saving from?”The silver-eyed man suddenly stopped in his tracks so abruptly that I hit his back and stumbled backward. He turned his head slightly to the side.“We mentioned everything you needed to know in the letter we s
I broke into a cold sweat as I stared at the man before us. He wore an elegant black cloak with intricate golden patterns embroidered along the edges. Beneath it, he wore a white tunic, slightly open at the collar, paired with loose black trousers and a thick brown belt. A sword rested at his hip. He looked like a nobleman. But if I was being honest, there was nothing noble about this man. I stood frozen as the man began making his way down the staircase, taking his time with every step. Step. My heart hammered against my ribs with rapid thumps. Another step. My throat tightened, and I found myself holding my breath as he drew closer. I could feel the fear building inside me, tightening around my chest with every step he took, but then my eyes fell on his face, and I froze. Those eyes. Those fucking eyes. Something dark flared inside me, and it took me a moment to recognize it, buried beneath the layers of fear. Hatred. Pure, consuming hatred for the man de
We traveled for what felt like hours. The sun had disappeared beyond the horizon, and the wind had begun to rustle through the trees as dark clouds gathered overhead, promising a storm. My legs were stiff from sitting in the same position for so long, and the awkward silence that had settled over the carriage did nothing to ease my nerves. Mika hadn't looked at me once, much less acknowledged that I existed, leaving me with nothing to do but stare out the window and watch the forest pass by. Towering trees stretched as far as I could see, their branches swaying whenever the wind picked up. “So you're the infamous Catherine Wells, the witch everyone despises. Tales of you have reached even the large cities.” Cain broke the silence from the front of the carriage, his hands wrapped tightly around the reins. “I didn't think you'd look so puny.” I stared at him for a moment. There it was again. Witch. The word everyone seemed to be throwing at me lately. At first, I thought
Suzy and I stood frozen, as if we'd been petrified in place, our gazes locked on each other.Neither of us dared to move, and the silence between us only made the pounding of my heart feel louder and louder until another knock came, this time harder and more impatient than the first.“Open up!” a gruff male voice shouted from the other side. “The Ravers have come for you.”Suzy stared at me for a moment longer before reluctantly turning toward the door. I followed close behind, chewing nervously on my lip as I tried to make sense of what was happening.Who the heck were the Ravers, anyway? And why did just hearing their name make my skin crawl?I watched as Suzy reached for the latch with trembling fingers, hesitating for a moment before slowly pulling it free and easing the door open. Two rather large men stood on the other side, both dressed in white tunics tucked into black trousers and heavy black leather boots. The taller of the two had black hair and piercing blue eyes, while th
Another world. I was actually in another fucking world. This had to be some sick joke. There was no way in hell I'd been sucked into one of those Chinese light novel scenarios. That shit wasn't real. It couldn't be. I paced back and forth across the now-empty room, my mind refusing to slow down. The girl, or rather, my new sister, Suzy, had stepped out to prepare our meals, leaving me alone with nothing but silence and a whirlwind of questions. How the hell did I end up here? More importantly, how the hell was I supposed to get out? The more I thought about it, the more my head hurt. This was getting me nowhere. I stopped pacing. “Okay,” I said, slapping my cheeks with both hands. First of all, panicking wasn't going to answer any of my questions. No. I needed answers. And to get them, I was going to have to play the part of Catherine Wells. Which meant, observe everything, learn everything, and figure out where the hell I was and how I could get out. A f
