21. Werewolves and Humans
Although it has been only two days since Jamie promised to find her a position at the Plaza, Emma was growing rather impatient. Her heart was refusing to rest from all the anxious beating, awaiting some good news just as she was. Much to her dismay, Jamie scarcely gave her any time these past couple of days. He left before she woke up and would only return when she was fast asleep.
Jamie was a rather reserved person in general, but lately, it looked like he was making extra effort to avoid encountering her. If she didn’t know better, she would have assumed that he was doing it on purpose. The thought crossed her mind several times now, but she always turned her suspicion down by wondering why he would possibly want to ignore her when it was himself that proposed her to live with him. It was only his busy schedule that was to be blamed and nothing else.

She must have sustained that laceration in the forest by a tree branch, laced with poison. As werewolves, certain plants contained venom that can almost instantly take their lives.
