“Marcus,” the priest stopped playing his instrument and came inside.

Marcus didn’t turn to look at him. His gaze was fixed on the peacefully sleeping human. Her face looked so different when relaxed. Almost angelic, with her pale skin and fair hair. She looked innocent and harmless. She looked beautiful.

The priest came to stand beside her and looked at her as well. “I exhausted the child.” He smiled.

“Did she go up all the stairs?”

“Yes, and she washed the whole floor.” He said pointing around. Marcus looked down and ahead at the shining floor. “She is a hard worker. Very diligent. She didn’t leave one spot unclean.”

What was this woman trying to do? Now win favors with the priest? How impressive.

“She probably hasn’t had a good sleep for years.” Chanan crouched to study her. “What a heavy soul to carry in such a small body.” He then looked up at him. “She needs a lot of care.”

“She is not here to be taken care of,” Marcus said.

The priest stood up and turned to him. “She is your bre

  • The Wolf King's Vow   Chapter 75: Morning Shadows

Aria lay in bed, her mind unsettled. She didn’t believe in souls being reborn or traveling from one life to another. How could that be true? And if it was, what would it mean for her?She turned over and almost gasped. Marcus was lying beside her, asleep. The breeze from the window pushed his hair back, showing his calm face in rest. She remembered the sound of his flute, soft and unexpected. He was confused, but she chose not to think about it.Her thoughts returned to her sister. She needed to find her, to protect her people, especially since Marcus planned to destroy the defenses. He didn’t see, or maybe he didn’t care, that doing so would leave many women at risk, just like his own sister had once been. Without the defenses, werewolves would enslave again. Her chest tightened as she remembered the recent attack when she almost lost her life. What would Marcus have done if his brother’s men had succeeded in killing her?I will always love you. Arshan’s words echoed in her mind. Her

  • The Wolf King's Vow   Chapter 74: Arrival

“I already had to stay here all day not knowing if you would come to eat or not. Do you treat your maids that way?”“I was busy.” He said.“With what, so you couldn’t even eat?”“I was finding a way to destroy the castle with your inventions.” Aria frowned. She could understand why he wanted to destroy her inventions. She remained quiet, feeling nauseous. Every time she heard of something like that, she became sick. That was why she had to find her sister. Marcus’s joke of her being a breeder could become true and then her sister…She swallowed. No. She would be fine.“Do you think my sister has been made into a breeder?” She asked. He had mocked her with it but she wanted to know his real thoughts.“Maybe.”“Is that true then? That werewolves take humans as breeders.” She felt her stomach turn again. He opened his eyes. “Yes.”She took a deep breath. She had not wanted to believe that but her uncle was right..“It is nothing new.” He sighed, closing his eyes again. “Already in th

  • The Wolf King's Vow   Chapter 73: Questions Over Soup

Ravian returned to the balcony. The soup was still there, now cold. She picked up the tray and carried it back to the kitchen, unsure of what exactly the werewolf king wanted from her.A sound in the hall made her pause. She turned, half expecting Marcus but it was Aaron.“Aria,” he said as he stepped into the hall. She stood by the kitchen door. “What are you doing here? Your brother is already upset.”“Did he hurt you?” His brow furrowed.“No.”He let out a long breath.“I’m fine,” she said quietly. “But we shouldn’t make him any angrier.” She wasn’t worried for herself as much as she didn’t want Aaron in trouble. She didn’t really understand how things worked between the brothers.“Aria.” He came closer, still frowning. He glanced around, then lowered his voice. “Do you want to be queen?”The question caught her off guard. “Why would you ask me that?”“People are saying all kinds of things about why you’re here. I’d rather hear it from you. Why are you here?”She hesitated, then no

  • The Wolf King's Vow   Chapter 72: Breedmate

“Get up, clean this up, and make lunch!” Marcus snapped, clearly annoyed.Aria climbed out of bed without a word. She was already noticing the signs, and maybe it was time to think more carefully now that she had learned a few things.Breedmate. The word echoed in her head. Had her thirst for revenge been so strong that she convinced herself she could stay here and endure being tied to this man as his breedmate? As if her life wasn’t already hard enough.‘Being my wife will not be something you’ll have to endure.’ Ares’ voice lingered in her memory. She drew in a deep breath and pushed the thought aside.Being someone’s wife was one thing. Being someone’s breedmate was something else entirely. Marcus had haunted her nightmares since childhood, and even after a century of his terror, she couldn’t see him as anything but a monster.A monster who had found his breedmate in a human—and was fighting against it. She couldn’t trust the sudden kindness in him, knowing it came from instinct. E

  • The Wolf King's Vow   Chapter 71: A Bath for the King

Aria moved through the house, searching for the things she needed to prepare a bath. Outside, she found water and realized she’d need to boil some. Not knowing how to start a fire, she lit one from a candle and set the pot on the stove. While the water heated, she found a bathing tub and dragged it into a small private room where the steam would stay longer. She filled it halfway with cold water, then gathered soap, clothes, and a shaving tool she spotted nearby. When the water was hot, she carefully carried it upstairs, mixing it into the cold until the bath was ready.Steam rose from the tub, and she couldn’t help thinking how she wished heat could burn a werewolf. She would’ve boiled him alive without hesitation. Instead, she reminded herself he was already playing with fire by keeping her as his maid, his jealousy written all over him. She thought his anger was about the messengers, but maybe it was more.Who were those messengers anyway? Why were they interfering? She needed to

  • The Wolf King's Vow   Chapter 70: The Messengers’ Warning

“The messengers are here,” Saul announced.Marcus had expected them sooner or later. His mother’s face tightened with worry, but he stepped outside without hesitation. He knew they’d try to stir trouble, to twist the people against him.The villagers gathered quickly, forming a circle around the three messengers. Marcus scanned the crowd—then caught Aria’s scent. His gaze followed it until he saw her, riding down the hill with Aaron. She was smiling. Not the mocking or forced kind of smile she usually wore, but a real one.Aaron noticed the messengers too. His brows drew together in a frown as he looked toward Marcus. Marcus gave him a short nod, then moved forward to face the men.“King Marcus of Azar,” the head messenger said. “Word has reached us that you found your breedmate in a human.”“That is true,” Marcus replied evenly. The man’s eyes shifted, landing on Aria in the crowd. “And she is the princess of Balkae, is she not?”“You’ve heard correctly.”“We need to know your intent
