There were a lot of ways Naomi had seen herself spending her 20th birthday, but curled up against the warmth of her fated mate was not one of them.

Right now, she was supposed to be getting ready with her best friends to go get very drunk at the new campus bar, but she had blown them all off with one message that they all understood. “Can’t make it. I met my mate. Have fun without me”

Naomi knew if she had done that over an ordinary date her friends would have gone ballistic and melted her phone with angry calls and messages but as the mate bond is so special and hard to resist, and they had all experienced what Naomi was feeling themselves they knew that it really wasn’t in her control.

Naomi was shy and reserved, in her pack she was invisible. Spending all her time with her books or her computers the only time anyone, outside of her family, ever spoke to her was when they needed IT help.

Naomi had been quite ill as a child and was indoors a lot, so she spent a lot of time online and taught herself everything form the basics of learning what code was to skills that meant she was offered a scholarship place at MIT at age 17.

Naomi accepted this place and left New York without any return visits to her pack, telling herself it was because she had been so busy and dedicated but really she had stayed away from her hometown for the last few years because she didn’t want to face the man she was in love with.

Or see him find his true mate and know he was forever out of reach. Her parents had died when she was in her early teens and it has been just Naomi and her brother Rhys and he was popular and a Beta in her pack so he was never home so her decision to leave for college wasn't a heard one to make.

As a teenager Naomi had developed a crush on the one guy in town she knew she could never have, the Alphas son Theon. He was her brothers best friend and two years older than her. She watched as he turned 18 knowing he would be able to sense his mate at any time.

Naomi had to endure watching his parents, the Alpha and Luna parading women in and out of the packhouse, in the hopes that they were their sons fated mate and it was becoming almost physically painful for her so when it came time for Naomi to pick a college she did something a wolf rarely did and chose one in another state, away from her pack.

Only her brother understood why Naomi made this decision. She never forced the issue even when the town elders expressed that they disapproved of Naomi's decision to go so far from their protection.

Naomi and her brother Rhys had always been close and even though she didn’t go back to the pack she saw him fairly regularly. Since she had moved off campus and in with her new roommate (that he clearly had a thing for) she was seeing more and more of him, so getting the text that morning saying he was coming to see her for her birthday wasn’t a surprise.

What was a surprise was that he said he was bringing a friend and didn’t say who. Naomi wondered if he had given up on her roommate and was bringing a girlfriend. Or maybe he has met his mate and was surprising her.

Deciding to distract herself before he arrived Naomi got ready to go to the library to do some research for a while. She pulled on some black wide leg jeans and a hot pink vest top and brushed out her straight platinum long hair.

In her pack Naomi had never really stood out, everyone was used to the pale face and white-haired girl fading into the background but here it made her stand out and people admired the almost mystical aura it gave her with her large deep blue eyes And the genuine warmth of her smile. Naomi was oblivious to all this and just thought she was a plain jane melting into the background as she didn’t ever lift her head up to see the people looking at her in wonder.

After a few hours in the library she decided to go home, there was a point where she was surely just torturing herself working to hard on her birthday. At the same time, she got a message from her brother to let her know he was at her apartment.

Excitedly Naomi hurried across campus to see who her brother was with. As she got within about 100 feet of her apartment she caught her brother’s scent on the wind, and then another scent which made her stomach churn with nervous anticipation.

Two pieces of information hit her with that scent. One her brother had brought her mate with her. Two. Alpha Theon was here.

As theyarrives at the pack and climbed out of their various vehicles, Naomi's nerves were on fire with anxiety. She was worrying about Theon's condition. She checked her phone and hadn't had any updates from Margot, she convinced herself no news was good news. "So what do we do with these witches now then?" asked Lottie"I have called the Witches Court" said Naomi, "They will be here shortly. So they will be handed over to them. I assume they have some sort of special place for witches that do this kind of thing. Clearly it was niave of Theon to think he could hold Lilian before, so we call the professionals"Rhys nodded in agreement "Yeah we kind of fucked up there,""Well we all learnt a vital lesson" said Lottie. "Never understimate these witches.""I just can't believe how crazy it all went to fast" said Naomi. She took Alex from Rhys's arms. "Shall we go see daddy and then go get some rest baby?" she asked her little boy. He looked sleepily up at her but his eyes held a glint of

If Naomi could choose one way to describe Molly right now she'd go with 'in her element'. The woman was literally overjoyed finally getting to smugly tell her clever story of how she'd engineered this. "You were all so easy to manipulate. Now i will have the blood of the last of the white wolves and I will gift it to my daughter and we will be unstoppable." she crowed gleefully. Naomi didn't know what she was referring to."Ah you don't know" said Molly seeing the confused look on Naomi's face. "The blood of the white wolf, when consumed by a witch, gives them the ultimate power boost and the ability to control full blood wolves. I can take over every pack in the US. It will help me control every full blooded Mutt in the states."Naomi was getting really sick of listening to her voice. She didn't know how to shut her up in her current situation but she just knew the second she was free Molly was going to be forced to keep her mouth closed. "Now come here" she said using the invisible b

No matter who you are, hearing the words ritual is never a good thing, thought Naomi, but stood in a semi circle of witches holding your small child it is especially chilling. Naomi was still reeling at the iformation overload of the past few days. She was thinking when she got back to the cottage and told the whole story to Theon she would need to make a family tree first just to lay it all out for him. Naomi knew she should be asking questions like, what ritual, what party, things like that but she had become a little disconnected with reality and her next question was unexpected "Wait, you were going to kill me when you thought I hurt Lilian but now it's Lucy you're fine with it?" Lottie rounded on Naomi, eyes wide. "That;s your issue right now?" she asked "Molly's double standards?""I think Naomi has finally snapped" muttered Rhys.Naomi wasn't sure she could disagree with that statement. Her mind was reeling. She had Alex, all she wanted to do was run and take her son far away

"So which one of you did it?" Molly asked. There ws no reason to wonder wahat she was referring to. The woman's eyes were pure cold, fury. Her anger and distress were practically radiating off her. "Who killed my babygirl?" she screamed through tears of rage. Her face getting redder and eyes bulging.Rhys and Lottie looked at each other confused, Naomi realised she was the only one who knew that Lilian was dead. "Someone killed Lilian." explained Naomi. "Snapped her neck" "Someone?" SOMEONE?" bellowed Molly. "It was you! I took your son so you think this is just retribution?" "I only found her" Naomi said defending herself "She was dead when we got here. I think you need to check your own backyard before you go pointing fingers Molly""You lying snake" she hissed as she threw an energy ball at Naomi. Naomi managed to dodge in time. She put Alex down and told him to put his shield back up and to turn around so he couldnt see what was happening."You could have hurt Alex" Naomi said an

Naomi was stunned. Stunned and horrified. Looking at the pale and lifeless figure of Lilian led out before her she thought she would feel happy or relieved at her death but she just felt flat and empty. She would never get to see her justice or get to ask Lilian why she had donw these things to her. I wonder who she pissed off enough to actually kill her, thought Naomi. She had clearly enraged someone enough to kill her by hand, which was Naomi's educated guess going by the handprints bruised that formed on her pale neck. I wonder if Molly knows her daughter is gone? she though. Full wolves sensed death to their children but she didn't know if hybrids did. At that moment James reached out and turned her to face him. She had forgotten he was even there. Looking at the shock she felt reflected back in his eyes it was like a bubble she was in burst. That's when she realised what he was saying to her "Luna, we need to get out of here now" James said in a panicked tone "it's all gone si

The atmosphere was tense. There was no other way to describe it. The entire rescue team was hiding in the trees lines about 30 feet from the road that led into the quary. It was their last chance at consistent coverage. The cars had been left about a quarter of a mile down the road, as out of sight as they could manage. Naomi could see the wide enterance into the quary and the building, tents and RVs that lay beyond. Their target for attack. It was dusk now and they were waiting for the cover of darkness to make their move as they were hoping for the cover of the dark combined with the witches letting their guards down at night. The quart it's self was a really open space and their recon during the early evening had shown there was no wehrre for cover making stealth a difficult place to infiltrate without giving away their arrival. Quite sensible of the witches really Naomi begrudgingly admitted. Lottie was sat on the ground next to Naomi, still trying to connect with her visions.
