Through the comms, I heard Owen shouting orders to his team. Heard the sounds of fierce battle. Heard Theodore calling for magical support.

The assault upstairs was not going well. And down here, we were about to be slaughtered.

"Mary, we need to fall back," Evelyn said urgently. "We cannot win this fight."

"We cannot leave the prisoners."

"We cannot save them if we are dead!"

Archon Shade laughed. "So noble. So determined to save everyone. Just like your mother used to be before we broke her. I wonder how long it will take to break you again? Last time took seven days. I am betting I can do it in three."
