LOGINWilliam Lloyd has never gotten over me, and to Gabriel Zeller, I'm the sister he's always doted on. But I have ambitions of my own, just like the unforgettable first love in every romance novel. So I leave the country to study abroad. At the airport, William and Gabriel promise they'll wait for me to come home. Nine years later, I finally return. They've kept their promise. They've just found someone to take my place while I was gone. "The real Zeller heiress is back. You're nothing but a kept woman, so know your place." "A replacement will always be a replacement. Have some dignity and leave." They shower me with affection and give her nothing but the cold shoulder, but I can still see the hesitation in their eyes. Then, on my wedding day, we get word that she's been in a car accident. William leaves me at the altar, and Gabriel gets up from the family table and walks out too. "I'm sorry, Noelle. I finally understand how I feel. She was never anyone's replacement." It doesn't matter to me. Being someone's unforgettable love or someone's kept woman was never what I wanted. I'm the future head of the Zeller family, and I have my own goals.

We were all protagonists in our own stories. To some, we were the hindrances in their paths. However, she was the villain for all.
Tired footfall echoed in the dark, empty hallway and only she could see from the dim light of her dying torch that she was holding. With a limping leg, she leaned on the nearest wall she could support herself. She tried to flap both of her feathery wings but to no avail. They were broken and almost got removed from her back by that sinister man.
She briefly looked back from where she came from and continued to drag her own battered body when she found nothing of suspicion. Maybe she had lost him, but knowing her pursuer, he wouldn't give up just like that. She'd rather expect him to play with her around like a stringed, ragged doll, than hope for him to just let her go.
She let out a shaky breath, stopping for a moment out of exhaustion, and with gritted teeth, she urged herself to resume moving. "You can't die here . . ." She mumbled to herself, the small fire of the torch swaying as she took a heavy step forward. "You need to find them . . ."
Stumbling upon something she didn't see-probably a corpse-her body planted to the cold, bloody floor, and the only light to guide herself in the dark died when the torch fell out of her grasp. She could hear the object rolling away from her as her vision plunged into darkness.
"Damn it," she uttered in a frustrated voice and mustered all of her strength to get up from the floor. She leaned on the wall, standing up to her feet despite her trembling knees, and clumsily moved ahead.
"Oh, there you are." A voice in a pleased tone said, but to her, it sounded dreadful.
Chills ran all over her body, and her heart leaped to her throat and hammered loudly. She felt cold sweat form like beads on her forehead, neck, and back, and she fastened her pace. She knew from the start that this attempt at escape would never succeed. But she tried anyway because there were others waiting for her.
A cold, slick hand landed on her nape, making her freeze on her spot, and she trembled, frightened. The hand slowly shifted to her neck and the man embraced her from behind. His skin on hers felt like millions of ants marching all over her body. She wanted to scratch it. Scratch him. Burn him.
It was unbearable.
"Where do you think you are going, hmm?" He whispered in her ear, his voice chilling and dark. He tightened his grip on her neck and mercilessly slammed her to the floor, making her cough in pain. He got on top of her and quipped, "What a fool you are for thinking you'd get away."
"Go die . . . wet sock," she croaked, glaring albeit not actually seeing him.
Upon hearing her insult, he laughed maniacally. His nails dug into her neck she hissed but stopped before he made her bleed more. He moved from above to sit beside her instead.
"Disgustingly amazing as always, aren't you?" He caressed her cheek and wiped the blood on the corner of her lips with his thumb. "And annoyingly feisty. You make me want to hang you up on the wall for display."
The woman's face upturned into a sneer, lime eyes flickering brightly with spite. "Spare me your empty threats, for your severed head will be the one put on exhibit."
Without any second thought, he grabbed her hair, stood up, and heaved her from the floor. She gripped his hand, trying to retch it away but to no avail. He didn't even bother moving the corpses he walked over as he took her somewhere.
"You donkey, let me—" She couldn't even finish her sentence before he threw her away and rolled in a puddle. But it wasn't made out entirely of water.
From its rusty metallic smell, anyone could decipher it was blood. And from above her, how the puddle had formed, droplets of blood continued to fall.
"Here! My presents for you!" He exclaimed cheerfully and with a snap of his fingers, a small ball of fire ablaze.
She hesitantly looked heavenward and once she saw what the so-called presents were, an ear-splitting shout escaped her mouth. Tears quickly pooled in her eyes and stained her cheeks.
Lightning crashed down the white floating blights. Thunder howled its wrath. The earth trembled in misery. The heavens shed tears upon the barren land as if the vast canvas of darkness veiling the ruins had awoken.
Bodies were heaved up high on the ceiling with ropes. Some of the corpses' body parts were severed and hung up on their own. Even if the plasma ball was small, it was enough for her to see their faces. They were her family. Her loved ones.
An artwork of monstrosity. Made to drag you to the depths of lunacy. To drown you for eternity.
Continuously, the man's laughter echoed, and she covered her ears in an attempt to stop hearing it. But it didn't stop. He didn't stop. He would never as long as she was alive. He pulled her hands away from her ears and stroked her face, wiping the tears and blood off.
"You know, I'm pretty sure they'd be happy," he began with a sinister smile creeping on his lips. "I did them a favor punishing you for deceiving us all." He drew out a knife and pointed it at her left eye. "Now then, shall we continue?"
With a cry slipping past her lips, that the man heard as a piece of horrifyingly beautiful music to his ears, he picked up the threads of madness.
William was sentenced to two years for assault. On top of that, the assets he had agreed to give Rachel under the gift agreement took a sizable chunk out of his wealth. Bernard and Helen were deeply disappointed in him. Before he was taken to prison, William had someone deliver a message to me."Noelle, you sent me to prison, but I don't blame you. I love you so much that even if this is your way of punishing me, I'll gladly take it."I asked the person who brought the message to pass along my reply."Get lost."Over the next two years, William's younger brother, Vernon Lloyd, officially took over the Lloyd family business. The Lloyd and Zeller families did a lot of business together, so Vernon and I saw each other often.I remembered Vernon as shy and so quiet he was easy to overlook. But once he took over the family business, he proved surprisingly capable, with sharp business instincts and a real talent for running things. At a business gala, he asked me to dance. On the da
The movers cleared my things out of William's house in no time.Without a legal marriage tying me to him, I was free to leave whenever I wanted. As the movers carried out the last box, William blocked the doorway and dropped to his knees, refusing to let me leave."Noelle, even if we put everything else aside, weren't you at fault too? You knew Rachel had faked her death, but you kept it from me! If I'd known the truth, I never would've treated you so coldly these past two years."When you think about it, you brought this on yourself. But I'm not going to hold that against you, so can't you stop holding this against me? Noelle, just don't leave. I don't care what you do to me. Hit me, yell at me, whatever you want."Of course. He hadn't realized he was wrong. He had only realized he was about to lose me.From beginning to end, all he had ever cared about was possessing someone and keeping them under his control. That was how he treated me, and that was how he treated Rachel.I s
When I brought William and Gabriel to the private room at the nightclub, they exchanged glances, but neither made a move to go in.I scoffed and pushed the door open.Rachel had done exactly what she had always said she would. She had hired a group of male escorts and was living it up.William stared at her in disbelief. His knees nearly buckled, and his voice shook. "Rachel... Rachel, you're alive... Why didn't you come find me? Do you have any idea what this past year has been like for me?"I missed you so much. Is this why you hired all these men? Are you trying to punish me? Are you trying to make me jealous? I was wrong. I know I was wrong."It wasn't until you left that I realized you were never anyone's replacement. You were always just you. Please come home with me."Rachel slowly rose from the middle of the group and walked over to William. She looked down at him. "Seriously? I put on a little act, and you actually caught feelings. Don't tell me you really thought I fel
My allergic reaction was so severe that I had to be hospitalized.Even so, William and Gabriel ignored the doctor's orders and forced their way into my room. They immediately started pressing me for answers."Noelle, were you telling the truth?""Is Rachel really still alive? No, that's impossible. Rachel loved us so much, and she was so kind. If she were still alive, how could she stand by and watch us spend an entire year falling apart over her?""You're only saying this because you're afraid of being held responsible!""Noelle, I always thought you were just spoiled. I never thought you'd become such a liar!"I opened my mouth to answer, but my throat was already too swollen for me to speak. The doctor soon sent them out.He frowned at them. "Are you really her family? I've never seen anything like this. You don't seem to care about her safety at all. She's still not out of danger, and she can't handle this kind of emotional stress right now."I found out later that William
