"Ghouls are actually a rare species, and I don’t particularly like them, as ironic as that is," she explained.I smirked. “The problem with you crossing over as a part of the living, is that you will bea target. I felt when you all entered. It sent a shockwave over the land to everyone.” What she was saying was concerning, but I listened as she explained. “Because there are the crazies that find the weak points and try to bring the livingback, there will be bounties on all of your heads. The living are a luxury here. They can give, say ghouls for example, a euphoric type feeling if they were to eat you. Living are like heroin down here,” my eyes widened, suddenly concerned she was going to try to eat me. She put her hands up, “Don’t worry, I’m not going to eat you. I don’t want to do that, regardless of the circumstances. I have no desire to become a drug addict today.”She tried to joke, and while I relaxed a little, I wasn’t completely comfortable.“The reason I’m glancing ou
It was another beautiful day at the house. Rosy and I were sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee debating going into town. We lived about 10 minutes outside of Missoula, Montana. Our parents were gone. They had passed a couple years prior. When they died, they left us the house and the property. It was a nice 2 story home with 5 bedrooms and 2 baths. Both of us smoked, so we had put on a new enclosed front porch the previous year. Neither of us worked as our parents were billionaires and had left their fortune to us. But we didn’t live in luxury. We had what we needed and some of what we wanted. The last thing we wanted to do was draw attention to ourselves. To the civilian world we were just 2 females in their early 20s.What they didn’t know was that we were Guardians. The dead did come back to the land of the living, but with malicious intent. They used Portals, aka Crossing Points, to come over. Their goal was to kidnap the nearest living person and take them back to th
Rosy began cleaning our equipment while I went to take care of the yard. I drug the hose out to the field and began spraying all the blood away. We had to make sure that the civilian world didn’t know anything about what we were doing here. I’d been at it for about 10 minutes when I heard tires in the driveway. I had hosed down the major spots, so it was enough that people would have to look closely to notice. I turned around and watched as a young man stepped out of the police cruiser. “Missoula Sheriff's Department” was written on the side of it. That was when a smell hit my nose, causing me to freeze in shock. Pine needles and rain. MATE! My tiger, Amanda, yelped excitedly in my mind. No, no! He can’t be! I growled, still frozen in place. Go to him! Stop being stubborn! She pushed me forward. The man had paused outside his police cruiser staring at me in awe. Even from this distance I could tell he was a werewolf. He had the smell of my mate, but also the scent of his pack.
We both turned and looked at the front door as we heard gravel crunch in the driveway. Rosy went to get up to check who it was, but I put up a hand to stop her.“No need,” I sighed, grabbing my coffee and heading towards the door myself.“It’s Dylan.”I glanced down at my outfit and suddenly felt mildly self conscious. I was wearinga red push up sports bra and basketball shorts. It had just been Rosy and I, so there hadbeen no need to put on actual clothes. Now I wished that I had put on a shirt, but it was too late.I could sense him before he even stepped out of his vehicle.Stupid mate bond, I grumbled. You love it, Amanda purred. He wasn’t driving his cruiser, which told me he wasn’t on duty. Rosy sat down with a grin and sipped her coffee, “Have fun.”I gave her a playful glare before I turned around to refill my cup and walked out the front door. I made sure to disguise mine and Rosy’s scents, so he would still think we were human. He was leaning on his truck when I
“What’s going on?” Dylan yelled, catching up to us quite quickly.Fuck, he’s fast, I smiled, skidding to a halt 20 yards from the portal.Dylan was on my right, staring at me like he wanted answers. Rosy was on my left, with her crossbow strapped to her left arm, and her sword in her right.I quickly strapped my crossbow to my right and had my sword in my left. I had learned a long time ago that Rosy and I were not always the same.“Anna!” Dylan tried to get my attention.I whirled around and glared up at him, “I do not have time to explain this!” His eyes widened, and for a moment he looked startled. “There are about to be a lot of people in this yard, and if you wanna help, fine!” I offered him my sword. “Make yourself useful if you want to help us!”He took a little longer to take it than I expected, but after a few seconds he took my sword, and faced the spiral that was now appearing.I drew my knife from the side of my bra, and readied the bow.Dylan glanced at me, “What
God I’m such a Simp! I rolled my eyes at myself as I closed the truck door.Amanda was chuckling at me.It’s not funny! What the fuck are wolves doing on my property? I growled angrily. One of the wolves, he was black with white paws, charged at me, teeth bared. He was significantly smaller than Dylan, and smaller than me, but he was fast. He wasn’t fast enough though. I dodged his leap and rolled to the right, watching in amusement as he slammed into the truck door. He shook his head and growled at me, stalking towards me. I bared my fangs at him, daring him to try to strike. He didn’t get the chance to try before Dylan came charging from around the house. He tackled the black wolf and pinned him under his massive paws.I clicked into their mind link to listen.--my mate! Touch her again and you will lose your life! Dylan growled at him. That’s your mate! The wolf replied, and that’s when I realized she was female. It also angered me that my mate was touching another female.
I gave her a huge grin, “I freaking love you!”“This is why we are sisters,” She chuckled. The 3 of us sat at the kitchen table drinking coffee. Neither Rosy, nor I, had taken a shower yet. Our first need, and want, was coffee. That was essential to our survival.Rosy broke the silence first by slurping her coffee loudly, making Dylan and I look at her.“So, what’s gonna happen now?” She wondered.I took another gulp of coffee, “What do you mean?”She gestured between Dylan and I, “You guys are mates, and he’s the Alpha. So what does that mean for us?”I shrugged and looked at Dylan, “I can’t leave here, Dylan. I have to stay.”He looked shocked, “But you’re my mate! You’re supposed to be my Luna, and help me look over the pack!”I shook my head, “I have obligations here. I have responsibilities that I will not leave.”Dylan looked more pouty with each word that came out of my mouth. “I am not just going to leave Rosy here by herself to fight the dead. That’s not something I
I took another sip of my coffee before speaking. What I had to say shocked both of them.“I, Roxanne Fisher, hereby reject you, Dylan McGuire, as my mate,” I stated with a hiss.A pain spread through my chest as soon as I finished the sentence. I put a hand to my chest with a grimace, while Dylan growled in pain.“I, Dylan McGuire, hereby accept your rejection,” he mumbled through the pain. The pain that erupted through us was worse than I could ever have imagined. My chest felt like it was on fire and being turned inside out. I fell out of my chair and howled. I curled up in a ball and cried. Amanda yowled and whined before she retreatedcrying.Dylan wasn’t farring much better. He had his head on the table, tears streaming down his face onto the hard surface. I knew that this was wrong to do, but it had to be done. I wasn’t going to give in and just leave to be a Luna.Another pain spread through my abdomen and I cried out again. Dylan hopped out of his chair and kneeled down
