Chapter 17

The portal felt like jumping into ice cold mist. My feet firmly hit the ground with a thud. While the portal itself was cold, where I was standing was the average weather at home.

My eyes blazed purple as I looked around. The spot I was standing in was a circle of dead grass, but the rest of the forest was green and lush. I was surrounded by pine trees and shrubs, with no one in sight. When I turned around there was no portal opening, and no squad.

Amanda! You still there? I called out to her.

Yep, you’re stuck with me! She yipped. But I’m not sensing any of the group close to us.

That’s definitely going to be a problem, I sighed.

I spun around and took in the area around me with a grimace.

Rosy, can you hear me? I tried to link her.

The link was quiet for a moment before my head buzzed.

Yep, I can hear you! She exclaimed excitedly. Do you know where you are?

I have no clue, I sighed. I’m surrounded by pine trees and Amanda says she can’t sense anyone nearby.
