— AVERY POV —

The car slowed as we approached the pack house. Instead of heading toward the main entrance, Damon took a turn, driving down a darker path that led to the old stone building behind the mansion. The dungeon.

My heart skipped a beat. The place looked cold, almost lifeless, with iron doors and torches burning dimly along the walls.

Lucas was already waiting outside. He bowed slightly when Damon stepped out.

“Alpha,” he greeted, then glanced at me with a respectful nod before leading us inside. “She’s in the lower cells. We’ve… kept her under watch.”

I followed closely behind Damon, my hand brushing his coat lightly for comfort. The air grew colder as we descended the stone stairs. The sound of dripping water echoed faintly. My stomach churned with dread. What was I about to see?

When we reached the last cell, I froze.

The maid. The same woman who used to greet me every morning with a polite smile was sitting on the damp floor, her face swollen from beatings. Blood streak

—DAMON POV— The corridors were quiet except for the faint echo of our steps. Penelope walked beside me. Her expression was a mask of worry, her brows furrowed as if she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders.“Jessica is not doing well, son,” she murmured, her voice soft but anxious. “Jessica’s health is… fragile. I couldn’t just watch her like that. She kept asking for you.”I didn’t respond immediately. My jaw was tight, my mind still on Avery. On the way she looked at me before I left, the fear in her eyes when she asked to leave. That request was still clawing at my chest. But I said nothing. Not to Penelope. We walked until we reached Jessica’s door. It was half open, and the faint scent of lavender mixed with the bitter trace of medicine drifted out. The room was dimly lit, golden light from the bedside lamp spilling across the floor.Inside, two maids were tending to Jessica. One wiped her forehead with a damp cloth while the other adjusted the pillows behind her. Je

  • The Wrong Alpha’s Heir    Chapter 35

    — AVERY POV — I sat there quietly, my back propped against the hospital bed, trying to make sense of everything that had happened. My fingers gripped the thin blanket as if holding onto it would keep me grounded. My heart hadn’t stopped racing since I woke up.The door opened, and I didn’t even need to look up to know it was him. His presence filled the room before his voice ever did. Damon. He walked in with heavy steps, and even though his face was calm—too calm—I could feel it. Fury. It clung to him like a storm ready to break. His jaw was tight, his eyes too sharp, too cold for comfort. He tried to hide it, but I wasn’t blind. I had spent two weeks under his protection. I had learned to read him—at least a little.“You’re awake,” his voice was softer than I expected, deep and rich, wrapping around me like a blanket of steel.“Yes,” I whispered, my throat still dry.He came closer, pulling a chair next to my bed, and lowered himself into it. His eyes scanned my face like he was ma

  • The Wrong Alpha’s Heir    Chapter 34

    — DAMON POV — Her lips trembled like she wanted to say something, but the words never came. Those wide, doe-like eyes met mine—full of fear, confusion, and something I couldn’t quite place.“Damon, I…” she whispered my name so softly, it was almost a plea. And before I could stop myself, before reason could scream at me to back away, I leaned down and kissed her.At first, it was gentle. A soft press of my lips against hers, slow and steady, like I was asking for permission. She froze, stunned, but didn’t pull away. That was all it took to ignite the fire I’d been holding back for too damn long. The kiss deepened. My hand slid to the back of her head, tangling in her soft hair, pulling her closer. I didn’t even know why I was doing this—maybe because I saw the fear in her eyes earlier, the way her body trembled when the pain hit. Maybe because she almost collapsed in front of me today and something inside me snapped at the thought of losing her.All I knew was, I wanted her to feel s

    — AVERY POV — Everyone froze. Jessica stood stiff, her hands clasped tightly against her chest, her face pale. The maids had gone silent, their heads bowed so low they were almost touching the floor. But Damon didn’t care about any of them. His focus was on me—only me. He cupped my face with one hand, his thumb brushing my cheek gently as if that tiny touch could ground me.“Breathe, Avery. Just breathe, okay? Stay with me.” His voice was soft now, nothing like the growl that had silenced the room moments ago.I tried, but the pain was still there, relentless. My nails dug into his suit jacket as I fought to hold on. “It… it hurts,” I whispered, tears spilling freely now.“I know, sweetheart. I know,” he murmured, pulling me closer against his chest. “I’ve got you. I’m taking you to the pack hospital right now.”“No need to overreact,” Penelope said again, her tone clipped with annoyance. “Jessica’s pregnancy is delicate, not hers—”Damon’s head snapped toward her, his eyes glowing w

  • The Wrong Alpha’s Heir    Chapter 32

    — AVERY POV — I hurried out of the car as soon as we reached the pack mansion, barely waiting for the driver to park properly. My heart was pounding in my chest - not just from exhaustion but from the heaviness of the entire day. Every step toward the grand entrance felt like a desperate attempt to escape the weight of Penelope’s sharp words and the humiliation that clung to me like a second skin. My shoes tapped against the marble pavement, too loud in my ears, my breathing uneven. I just wanted to reach my room, curl into the bed, and cry it all out where no one could see. But fate had other plans. My foot slipped against the polished stone, and a small gasp escaped me before I could stop it. “Ah!” My stomach clenched in fear for the baby, but before I hit the ground, strong arms caught me—firm, steady, and warm. My eyes flew open to meet his. Damon. His suit hugged his broad shoulders perfectly, the black fabric stretching across his frame like it was tailored to wor
