— AVERY POV —

I sat there quietly, my back propped against the hospital bed, trying to make sense of everything that had happened. My fingers gripped the thin blanket as if holding onto it would keep me grounded. My heart hadn’t stopped racing since I woke up.

The door opened, and I didn’t even need to look up to know it was him. His presence filled the room before his voice ever did. Damon.

He walked in with heavy steps, and even though his face was calm—too calm—I could feel it. Fury. It clung to him like a storm ready to break. His jaw was tight, his eyes too sharp, too cold for comfort. He tried to hide it, but I wasn’t blind. I had spent two weeks under his protection. I had learned to read him—at least a little.

“You’re awake,” his voice was softer than I expected, deep and rich, wrapping around me like a blanket of steel.

“Yes,” I whispered, my throat still dry.

He came closer, pulling a chair next to my bed, and lowered himself into it. His eyes scanned my face like he was ma

    — DAMON POV — Her lips trembled like she wanted to say something, but the words never came. Those wide, doe-like eyes met mine—full of fear, confusion, and something I couldn’t quite place.“Damon, I…” she whispered my name so softly, it was almost a plea. And before I could stop myself, before reason could scream at me to back away, I leaned down and kissed her.At first, it was gentle. A soft press of my lips against hers, slow and steady, like I was asking for permission. She froze, stunned, but didn’t pull away. That was all it took to ignite the fire I’d been holding back for too damn long. The kiss deepened. My hand slid to the back of her head, tangling in her soft hair, pulling her closer. I didn’t even know why I was doing this—maybe because I saw the fear in her eyes earlier, the way her body trembled when the pain hit. Maybe because she almost collapsed in front of me today and something inside me snapped at the thought of losing her.All I knew was, I wanted her to feel s

    — AVERY POV — Everyone froze. Jessica stood stiff, her hands clasped tightly against her chest, her face pale. The maids had gone silent, their heads bowed so low they were almost touching the floor. But Damon didn’t care about any of them. His focus was on me—only me. He cupped my face with one hand, his thumb brushing my cheek gently as if that tiny touch could ground me.“Breathe, Avery. Just breathe, okay? Stay with me.” His voice was soft now, nothing like the growl that had silenced the room moments ago.I tried, but the pain was still there, relentless. My nails dug into his suit jacket as I fought to hold on. “It… it hurts,” I whispered, tears spilling freely now.“I know, sweetheart. I know,” he murmured, pulling me closer against his chest. “I’ve got you. I’m taking you to the pack hospital right now.”“No need to overreact,” Penelope said again, her tone clipped with annoyance. “Jessica’s pregnancy is delicate, not hers—”Damon’s head snapped toward her, his eyes glowing w

  • The Wrong Alpha’s Heir    Chapter 32

    — AVERY POV — I hurried out of the car as soon as we reached the pack mansion, barely waiting for the driver to park properly. My heart was pounding in my chest - not just from exhaustion but from the heaviness of the entire day. Every step toward the grand entrance felt like a desperate attempt to escape the weight of Penelope’s sharp words and the humiliation that clung to me like a second skin. My shoes tapped against the marble pavement, too loud in my ears, my breathing uneven. I just wanted to reach my room, curl into the bed, and cry it all out where no one could see. But fate had other plans. My foot slipped against the polished stone, and a small gasp escaped me before I could stop it. “Ah!” My stomach clenched in fear for the baby, but before I hit the ground, strong arms caught me—firm, steady, and warm. My eyes flew open to meet his. Damon. His suit hugged his broad shoulders perfectly, the black fabric stretching across his frame like it was tailored to wor

  • The Wrong Alpha’s Heir    Chapter 31

    — AVERY POV — The sharpness in Penelope’s tone froze me mid-motion. Heads turned. A few pack members nearby glanced our way, pausing in their tracks. My heart stopped.“Did you forget your place?” Penelope’s voice dripped with venom, loud enough for everyone to hear. My fingers trembled on the handle as blood rushed to my face. My cheeks burned with shame.“I—” My voice barely left my throat.Jessica blinked in surprise. “Mother—” she started, but Penelope raised a hand at her.“Calm down, Jessica. This has nothing to do with you.” Then her cold eyes pierced through me like daggers. “The front seat is where you belong. You’re not family—you’re just…” She didn’t finish the sentence, but she didn’t need to. The damage was done. The humiliation stung like an open wound. Slowly, I stepped away from the back seat and walked to the front, feeling the weight of every stare on me. My hands shook as I opened the door and slid in next to the driver. I kept my eyes glued to my lap, fighting the

  • The Wrong Alpha’s Heir    Chapter 30

    — AVERY POV — Since that night at the party, my world felt like it had caved in on me. I had thought leaving quietly would solve everything. I was wrong. Oh, Penelope made sure of that. Ever since Jessica’s grand announcement, I had lost even the tiny bit of freedom I once had. Now, she watched me like a hawk—both of us pregnant women, under her “care.”Except her care wasn’t for me. It was for Jessica. The morning sunlight streamed into my room, warm and soft against the pale curtains, but I didn’t feel its warmth. My stomach turned—not from the pregnancy—but from the thought of walking into that dining hall again.Maya came in late, almost rushing, her steps light but not her usual cheerful rhythm. She gave me a quick smile, not meeting my eyes for too long. “Sorry I’m late, miss Avery. There was so much to do this morning,” she said softly, already moving to the wardrobe.I nodded, forcing a little smile. “It’s okay. You don’t have to explain.”But deep down, I noticed it. Maya
