—• AVERY POV •—

My grip on my dress tightened, but I kept walking. Each step felt heavy, but Maya’s words replayed in my head: Hold your head high.

I did.

I felt their stares crawling over my scars, but I refused to lower my gaze. My scars were mine. My pain was mine. And still, I stood.

Near the center of the hall, Jessica spotted me. She froze, her glass of wine halfway to her lips. For a second, her mask cracked—panic flashing in her eyes. Then she quickly recovered, pasting on that fake sweet smile she always wore.

Beside her, Penelope sat with a group of elegantly dressed she-wolves, her glare sharp enough to cut glass. The way she looked at me like I was dirt polluting the air with my presence made my stomach twist.

But I didn’t turn back.

Because then I saw him.

Damon.

He stood near the head of the crowd, tall and powerful in a black suit that fit his frame perfectly. His eyes, sharp and cold moments before, shifted the second they landed on me. Surprise. Confusion. Something

  • The Wrong Alpha’s Heir    Chapter 79

—• AVERY POV •—“Miss Alice,” the flight attendant leaned down gently, her voice soft against the quiet hum of the plane. “Would you like anything to drink? Perhaps some wine, or maybe a warm towel?”I looked up, blinking, momentarily pulled out of my thoughts. She wore that perfect professional smile, polite and practiced, the kind of smile that didn’t need much effort.I gave a faint shake of my head. “No. Thank you.”She nodded, her smile widening as though she respected my choice. “Of course, Miss Alice. If you need anything, please ring.” With that, she walked gracefully back down the aisle, leaving me alone with the hum of the engines and the steady beat of my own thoughts.I leaned back against the soft leather, fingertips brushing the rim of the glass as I stared at my reflection in the oval window. Five years. Five long years had passed since—Avery died—the mother who had been forced away from her son. The woman who had been betrayed by those she trusted most. I was no longe

—• AVERY POV •—"Ain't we there yet?” I asked nervously. “Almost, miss.” The man replied, fast and hasty. At first, I didn’t understand. The car ride had been too quiet, the driver behind the wheel not saying much except short grunts whenever I asked where we were going. But when I looked out the tinted window and noticed familiar street lights giving way to long, empty stretches of road, my stomach dropped. We were leaving the city.My suspicion was right! Full-blown alarm hit me hard, and my fingers fumbled with the door handle. “Stop the car! Let me out!”The man upon realizing what I was doing cursed under his breath and growled from the front. “Shut up and sit down!”My chest squeezed. I pulled harder, clawing at the lock until my nails scraped my skin. The door didn’t budge. My pulse pounded in my ears.“I said sit down!” he roared, slamming the steering wheel.I didn’t stop. I kicked, shoved, tugged at the handle until finally he swung his arm back, trying to hit me. The car

  • The Wrong Alpha’s Heir    Chapter 76

—• AVERY POV •—“I don’t need you.” I turned my face away, covering my swollen cheek with my hair.Damon caught my wrist gently, trying not to startle me. “I’ll take you to the clinic. Proper care—”“I said no!” My eyes snapped to him, full of fire and ice all at once. “Don’t bother. Don’t pretend you care, Damon.” I turned back immediately, nor bothering to look at his face or I might do something I didnt wish to. Just because he defended me earlier on doesn't mean I will open up to him. I shut the door of the infirmary behind me and forced one foot in front of the other. Every step felt like knives digging into my ribs. My cheek throbbed where Penelope’s hand had landed again and again, and dried blood still crusted the corner of my mouth. But I didn’t cry. I couldn’t. Crying would mean they had won. When I finally reached the nursery, the silence inside greeted me. My baby was asleep, tiny chest rising and falling in peace. I leaned over his crib, brushing my finger along the s

  • The Wrong Alpha’s Heir    Chapter 75

—• DAMON POV •— The growl slipped out of me before I even realized it. I hadn’t planned to reveal myself like this, but the sight of Avery, held down and bloodied, made something inside me snap. My wolf surged forward, clawing, snarling, wanting to rip apart every hand that had touched her. I clenched my fists hard to keep control, but the tremor in my body betrayed me. The women dropped her instantly, stepping back like frightened pups. Even seasoned she-wolves knew the weight of an Alpha’s fury. But Penelope—my father’s mate, my so-called stepmother—straightened her back, her pride refusing to bow. She still thought her title protected her. “Damon,” she said, her voice shrill but trying to sound composed. “I told you this was no good, look at my face she struck me! She dared lay her omega filthy hands on me.” She gestured dramatically at her cheek, though the mark on it was faint compared to Avery’s bruised, bleeding face. Still, I didn’t speak. My gaze was locked on Avery

  • The Wrong Alpha’s Heir    Chapter 74

—Avery POV—The morning sun poured softly through the nursery curtains, bathing the room in a pale golden glow. My baby squirmed in my arms, letting out tiny coos that made my chest ache with love. I dipped the cloth into warm water, squeezing it out before gently wiping his soft skin. His little toes wiggled, and I smiled, whispering nonsense words to him, the kind only a mother could understand.“Shhh, my angel,” I cooed, pressing a kiss to his tiny hand. “All clean now. So handsome.”He made a soft noise, a sound that always melted me, and soon his eyes grew heavy. I hummed quietly, rocking him until his lashes finally fluttered closed. The nursery door wasn’t fully shut, and that was when I heard them. The voices of two omega maids drifting in from the hall.“Can you see?” one whispered. “She made him sleep.”“That’s so strange,” the other muttered in disgust. “Most babies would cry at the sight of her… but not him.”Their laughter followed, sharp and cruel.“That ugly face, and
