Mara’s POV

Zeta spoke up, scratching his chin. “Amber… Amber… and her surname starts with an R… maybe she is an aunt or something of yours. These archives clearly were taken quite early so she wasn’t married then. She can’t bear your surname so early unless she’s an aunt.”

Damon looked up, “People have been known to look like aunts and uncles but is it possible that the white wolf you think is your mom is actually an aunt.”

“I don’t know… this whole thing is so confusing.”

But I could sense it, there was something about the white wolf, it didn’t feel like an aunt or relative. It felt like blood, she felt like my blood.

“Ryan,” he said, his voice calm and precise. “Make sure all traces of us looking for this document are sealed. We should have the copy made as well. I want it secured under my personal archives until further notice.”

Ryan nodded. “Understood.”

Zeta looked between us. “So what happens now? We aren’t even sure that the white wolf is her actual birth mother…” he look

  • The Wrong Mate, The Right Alpha   Chapter 93 - A Bit of Tampering

Damon’s POV The beeping of the heart monitor was the only sound in the room, her heart sounded too fragile. I watched closely as they wheeled Elder Summers from the operating room into the private ward, where a team of doctors and nurses clustered around her. I believe the hospital director had probably placed her on top priority. The lights in the room made her skin look paler and for the first time when it came to Elder Summers, I felt fear and powerlessness. I was powerless to stop her from bleeding. Powerless to realize that the darned pattern that kept replaying, with people either dying or disappearing when I was getting closer to the truth about something, could happen to her. Mara stood beside me, she was quiet and her fingers nervously rubbed on her pants at her side. I could feel her worry through the bond and I knew she could feel my fear and anger. But she didn’t speak. I didn’t need her to. I just needed her to be there. I turned to Ryan. “Go to the Summers reside

  • The Wrong Mate, The Right Alpha   Chapter 92 - What’s Going On?

Mara’s POV Even before Damon spoke, the air inside the room seemed to tighten up, like the walls were bracing for impact. “Freaking Redwind Central… they better not lose her.” Damon barked. Ryan, Zeta and I were seated at the hospital reception, the doctor immediately approached. “Alpha, the Elder is currently under. She’s in bad shape and with her age, the shock put her straight into a coma.” Damon hit his hand to his head erratically, “So she’s in a coma? What about her injuries? Is she healing?” The sound of sirens bringing in another patient drowned out the quiet atmosphere in the hall. I could feel the tension rolling off Damon in strong waves, I could feel anger, fear and despair inside him. This was one too many losses. He had already lost too much, it wouldn't hurt for us to get a real win. I couldn’t bear another loss as well. The hospital immediately erupted in chaos, as pack security immediately filed into the hospital. “We’ll be pulling her in for surgery because o

  • The Wrong Mate, The Right Alpha   Chapter 91 - A Council Outside the Council

Darius’s POVTonight would be the burial of my brother’s reign as Alpha, the private chamber of the Alpha’s den was filled to the teeth with different Elders and their behavior made it look like we had indeed gathered for a funeral. Elder Bragg sat at the other end of the long table, his hands were held together like a priest who was about to give his best sermon yet. His wife had come to this meeting with him, perched at his side; she was overdressed as always and her sharp eyes darted from one elder to another, almost daring one to point out that she wasn’t even an Elder in council. The remaining elders, Veyla, Harold, Draith and others sat on either side whispering between themselves as if they were afraid that the walls could hear. Elder Bragg cleared his throat, temporarily silencing the room. His voice was rolled deep and deliberate, it was the evidence of his self righteousness. “It really gladdens my heart,” he began, “to see that there are still wolves with their heads sc

  • The Wrong Mate, The Right Alpha   Chapter 90 - A Trail Not Forgotten

Damon’s POV“The funniest thing about many Elder wolves in this council is that you all are failing to see the grand picture here. If my father and Darius already find this council useless in decision making, what happens if they get what they want and move me out of my position. You all will have no say either.” The statement silenced them. And for the first time since I had sat down on this seat, the council members looked less like politicians and more like old wolves who had just realized that their office was burning already.”After that, the meeting made a u-turn to more boring topics like patrol schedules, trade relations and even the forbidden; the alchemy that had found its way into the pack. Elder Summers was the first to speak on it. “Well, you’ve explained the situation to us,” she said carefully, “that some members of the pack are housing or patronizing these smugglers but what I want to know is, are they currently practicing minor alchemy? You know little remedies and

  • The Wrong Mate, The Right Alpha   Chapter 89 - A Council Broken in Two

Mara’s POV Elder Royce, a stout man with a beard that was almost gray, cleared his throat. “Alpha,” he said carefully, “We were told some members were… occupied. They are meeting elsewhere. On… other matters.” Damon’s jaw clenched. “Other matters? What other matters supersede the council meeting?”Another elder known as Elder Gregory, I remembered his name because he had challenged my father once. He spoke up, his tone even more bold. “They are all meeting with your brother, Alpha Darius. He called for a discussion regarding matters that are pressing to him, with Elder Bragg and…well, I believe you can see all the elders not present.” “And they decided to split the council into two for his pressing matters.” Damon finished for him, voice low. A thick silence fell in the council chamber. Zeta muttered under his breath, “The Alpha’s brother moves fast and backed by that fucking elder Elder Bragg.”Ryan leaned in, whispering so only Damon, Zeta and I could hear. “Darius is obviously
