Chapter 1 Fired by the Boss' Girlfriend

Author: Dancing Flower
The boss had gone on a month-long business trip and left his girlfriend in charge of the company. Little would I expect that the very first blaze of her so-called authority would land squarely on me.

At ten that morning, I arrived at the office right on schedule, and immediately, a colleague nervously pointed toward the boss' office, and whispered, "Poppy Franklin is here. She wants you to go see her."

Poppy Franklin was the boss' new girlfriend—arrogant, overbearing, and sharp-tongued. If she disliked someone, she never hesitated to tear into them verbally.

Once, a female colleague had stayed in the boss' office a little longer than usual while giving a report, and Poppy immediately spread nasty rumors, claiming the woman was a call girl. She'd harassed her so relentlessly that the poor woman had eventually resigned.

But because Poppy knew how to sweet-talk him, the boss usually let her do as she pleased. I just hadn't expected that she'd set her sights on me next.

I set my coffee down and pushed open the office door. The instant I stepped inside, a folder came flying straight at my face.

"Do you even know what time it is?" Poppy snapped. "The company starts work at eight. Why did you only show up at ten?"

The sharp edge of the folder sliced across my forehead, drawing blood. I clutched my head and looked at Poppy, who was sitting behind the desk, lording her power over everyone.

Everyone in the company knew that ten o'clock was my official start time—a perk reserved for the top sales performer. It was an unspoken rule.

The boss had hired me by sheer accident when the company was on the brink of bankruptcy. But in my very first month, I'd brought in five million in sales and single-handedly dragged the company back from the edge. From then on, the boss had treated me like a prized asset, even consulting me on major decisions.

Poppy slammed her hand on the desk, her face twisted into something vicious. "Take a look at your punch-in records. You've been arriving at ten for an entire month. You really think company rules don't apply to you? According to policy, three days of lateness are grounds for termination. You're fired. Get out!"

I stared at Poppy in disbelief. "You're firing me? Did you even ask the boss?"

Eighty percent of the company's profits had come from me, and she thought she could just fire me like this?

Poppy snorted and looked at me with open contempt. "You're just a salesperson. A lousy salesman. Why shouldn't I fire you? This is my boyfriend's company. I'm the boss' woman here. I can fire whoever I want."

The boss had always treated me well—I couldn't just walk away like this. I sat down on the sofa and said calmly, "You should ask for the boss' opinion first."

Poppy rolled her eyes. "Who do you think you are?" As she spoke, she pulled out her phone and called the boss.

His voice sounded tired on the other end. "What is it?"

Just moments ago, she'd been shrieking at me, but now Poppy immediately softened her tone, her voice turning sweet and cloying. "Honey, I miss you."

The boss sighed. "Just say what you want."

Poppy shot me a smug glance. "There's a salesperson in the company who keeps breaking the rules and showing up late. I want to kick him out."

"Do whatever you want. I'm going to rest." The boss brushed it off casually and hung up.

Poppy looked at me, her expression smug and triumphant. "Did you hear that? I can fire whoever I want. Now get out."

I glanced at her still-flat stomach and shrugged. "What does that have to do with me? Get out of my house right now, or I'm calling the police."Poppy shot me a vicious glare, then turned and left.I didn't know what kind of trouble Poppy might stir up next, but none of it had anything to do with me anymore. From that point on, my only priority was running our studio properly. That was the only road worth taking.…The very next day, though, someone showed up at our office. It was our former boss. I watched as he slowly looked around the space, exhaustion written all over his face, and a trace of guilt rose in my chest. No matter how anyone looked at it, we had gone off on our own without telling him. In the end, we were at fault too.I brought him into the conference room. He smiled faintly and said, "This meeting room looks pretty legit."I nodded. "It's decent, but it definitely can't compare to your company."At the mention of the company, his brow immediately furrowed. "I

I shook my head helplessly. Even now, Poppy still showed no sign of remorse. At this point, whatever happened next was entirely of her own making.I went back upstairs and continued working. Not long after, I unexpectedly received a message from our former boss. He asked, 'Ask everyone what kind of souvenirs they want. I'll bring some back for you all.'Clearly, Poppy had done an excellent job hiding my resignation from him, so he still had no idea. I let out a quiet sigh and replied, 'We've already resigned. You should ask your girlfriend about the details.'A video call popped up almost immediately, but I didn't answer it. Whether I picked up or not no longer mattered. I had already led these people to start our own studio, and everyone had tasted what it was like to make real money. There was no way any of them wanted to go back to that company and work sales again. I couldn't abandon them either. Things had reached this point—there was no room left to maneuver.…The next mo

After bringing Jasmine back, I temporarily arranged for her to stay in the guest bedroom at my place. After all, letting a young woman live in a hotel wasn't the best idea.Jasmine tried to refuse, but I stopped her. "Don't worry. You'll be staying here alone for now—I'll sleep at the office instead. Work's been busy lately anyway. Once you've fully recovered, you can come in and start work."The guys nodded enthusiastically in agreement. "That's right. You're the only girl in our studio—just stay here. If you want to eat anything, tell us."Jasmine was amused by our over-the-top seriousness and couldn't help laughing.…After settling Jasmine in, I returned to the office and slept there for the time being. Early summer had just begun, so the temperature wasn't uncomfortable at night. After resting at my place for a few days, she soon said she wanted to look for her own apartment and start work as soon as possible. I knew that having a girl stay at my place long-term wouldn't loo

A few others followed close behind me, piling in as well. From inside the elevator, we could still see Poppy's face twisted with rage. "A studio made up of incompetent losers will go bankrupt sooner or later. Let's see how long you last!"The elevator doors slid shut, cutting off her distorted expression. After we finished cleaning the office, we officially moved in. It was right then that I received a call from Jasmine. On the other end of the line, she was sobbing so hard she could barely speak. "Theo… why is everyone bullying me? I just want to do my job properly. Who did I ever offend?"I immediately sensed something was wrong and asked, "What happened?"Through her broken, uneven breathing, I pieced together the truth. Jasmine had been sexually harassed by the hotel's general manager. My anger flared instantly. "Where are you right now?" I demanded."The staff dorm."I told the others to handle the remaining work, then picked a few tall, solidly built guys to come with

Poppy's aunt nodded in agreement. "Exactly. You're too benign. You're not even married yet—you should be building up more capital in your hands. That way, once you are married, he can't push you around so easily."And you should get my son into the company too. Put all of our family in place. If you two ever argue, at least we can step in and back you up, and the money stays within the family."…At that, everyone in the room understood perfectly."Well, damn. Looks like Poppy's been completely boxed in by her own family. So, this is what they've been planning.""Even so, she doesn't deserve any sympathy," someone scoffed. "Don't you remember what she said back in the office? She accused Jasmine of being a call girl. After that, Jasmine spiraled into depression and had to stay in the hospital for a long time before she finally recovered. Just think about how much damage that did."I froze for a moment, the image of the girl I used to see around the office flashing through my mind

I hurried to usher everyone inside and offered them some refreshments. "Why did you all suddenly come over?"Thomas looked at me and explained, "I brought them. What Franklin did was way out of line. She actually contacted other companies in the industry in the company's name and told them not to hire us. Now, we've got nowhere to go."I froze, a surge of anger rising instantly. "That shameless woman—how dare she?!"Thomas nodded. "But now the guys are out of work. Everyone has families to support. If we can't come to you, we'll have no choice but to change careers."Voices chimed in from behind him."That's right, Chief. If we don't follow you, we don't even know who else we can rely on.""If we'd known things would turn out like this, we would've left with you that day. The moment Poppy showed up, everything went downhill.""The boss himself isn't the problem. His taste in women is."I looked at all of them—every pair of eyes fixed on me with hope—and felt an immediate weight
