They drove for six hours straight, didn't stop except for gas they paid in cash and kept moving.

Maya watched the signs change, different states, different names, getting farther from everything they knew.

"You okay?" Dominic asked.

"Yeah," Maya said. "Just thinking."

"About what?"

"Everything we left," Maya said. "My job. The apartment. Sophie. Your dad. All of it."

"Can't think about that," Dominic said. "Gotta focus forward. Not back."
