LOGINThe chatter around her increased. The neighbors gathered around. Families, passers-by, everybody seemed to be interested in watching this unfortunate event of Raya's life.
It did not help that her apartment was just right there at the side of the street, very visible for the whole world to see. It also did not help that the landlord was not tryingthe least bit to be discreet. He had slammed his door shut in her face when she hurried upstairs to beg him to give her some more time but then he decided that he had not humiliated her enough so he came out of his apartment to bash her some more, calling her every horrible word he could think of in front of everyone.
He seemed to enjoy the show that he was making, he seemed to enjoy the attention he was gaining because he continued to berate her without any sign of slowing down.
“You really thought that you could stay here for free huh?!” He yelled the crowd moved in closer. They chatted amongst themselves, throwing snide glances at Raya.
“You know what? I think it was my fault, I should have never allowed you rent this apartment! I should have known just how irresponsible you are! I mean it is quite obvious that you are nothing but a hooker with that bump in your stomach!” The man yelled. There was gasps all around, there were whispers around.
“Oh my goodness! A hooker?” Someone gasped, it was Raya's next door neighbor, the same lady she had considered her close friend when she first moved in. Raya shook her head no, begging with her gaze for the woman to believe her, the intensity of the glare the woman sent back Raya's way caused her to look away, back at the ground.
“I should have known that she is a hooker, I mean what else would explain the mysterious baby bump? Another neighbor tsked.
Raya bite her lips nervously, she did her best to hold the tears back but that was impossible, even with how much she tried to keep her quivering lip shut the tears feel freely.
“Please don’t throw my out,” She begged. The owner of the place ignored him and then turned to face her with the full force of his glare.
“Get your worthless shit and leave before I call the cops on you!” He glared. Raya swallowed the lump in her throat, she avoided the creeping fear and embarrassment and continued to beg because what else was she to do? She had nowhere else to go.
With no mother anymore, no siblings and no relatives, she was all she had. There was Mimi of course but the thought of bothering Mimi with her problems once more irked her, it caused chills to run down her spine. Mimi had done so much for her, Mimi had also made it clear that she had no more help to give. Mimi was tired of helping her out, and Raya could not even blame her friend, who wouldn't be? She was just a big ball of misfortune, she could not blame Mimi for wanting to get away from that…from her.
“Please I have no where else to go, I have no family please,” She begged with her knees to the ground and free flowing tears on her face.
“Sleep on the streets for all I care! That's where loose women like you belong anyway!” He yelled and then kicked her belonging further into the street. There was a mix of emotions around here, there was people laughing and making jest of the whole situation like as if it was a comedic movie, like as if it was not somebody's real life on display. There was people who were empathetic, they had sympathy written all over their faces but even they did not move close to her, they watched from the corners, avoiding her life a contagious plague. There were also the people egging the owner on, one of them kicked Raya's things away.
Raya held her hand over her eyes as if that would make her disappear, as if that would save her from the embarrassment of what was happening, the shameful embarrassment of having her things thrown out of her house because of a track record of due rents.
The belongings, everything laid at the side, everything felt so surreal, like she was in a horrible lucid dream that she wished that someone would wake her up from but unfortunately this was no dream, this was her real life happening in real time. She had no job, no prospect of getting one, almost a single penny to her name since all her savings were spent trying to save her now dead mother, she had a baby on the way, a baby whose father was unknown. Her life seemed like a joke, a horrible sick joke.
Raya reached for her phone, with a deep breath, she dialled his number…Raphael Renolds, her separated husband, the only person who could potentially save her.
Her heart thudded rapidly as the phone rang, her breath got hitched in her throat when he picked up the call.
“Hello,” his self-assured baritone voice said.
Are you actually dumb or are you just trying to annoy me?” Maybelline said immediately the door swinged open and Arlo walked in. She was sitting in the large dark entrance room which had the fireplace that had come with the house when they had first bought it. The spitting sound of the fire burning up the wood seemed to echo Maybelline's anger. She had seen the entertainment news, she had watched her son being smeared with cake, she had seen the whole disaster that had gone on, the uproar that was caused by Arlo's ex-girlfriend Zara showing up. Maybelline had of course made her own plan to destroy Arlo and Vivienne's engagement party, she had of course set things in place to make sure that the proposal did not happen. Her plan was something a bit more subtle than what had ended up happening, her plan was something simpler, it was something that could be easily covered up and smoothed over before the media would get a hold of it. She had implanted s plant amongst A
The document in Raya's hand looked like it had been ripped up in anger, there were only a few pieces of it in the pillowcase. Raya felt horrible for prying and checking something that she was probably not meant to see, she put it back but then the curiosity crept up again. There was this instinctive feeling, this tiny voice in her head telling her that it was important for her to see the content of the document, that it somehow has something to do with her. With shaky unsure hands she opened all the crumpled pieces and laid them on the bed, she arranged them in the best way she could, it seemed like the bottom half of the document was missing but from what she could gather from the document, it seemed like the Mimi house was about to be foreclosed.Raya dropped the document, her heart thudded rapidly in her heart, she knew how much the house meant to Mimi, she knew all the beautiful memories that had been made here, all the irreplaceable memories that they both have had here. She look
Raya stood in front of Mimi's house. It was a Victorian style brownstone house which looked awkward amongst the other more modern suburban ones that surrounded it. She sighed as she stared straight ahead at the small gate that stood in the middle of the short fence. The gate and fence did nothing for security, it looked like it was there more for aesthetic reasons than for security, it complimented the general outlook of the house but it would of course not ward off any intending intruder. The sigh Raya let out was a sad one, once again she was going to be a burden on her oldest friend, once again she would have to lean on Mimi without any idea of how she might one day return the favor. She was empty handed, she did not have the mind to go back to her former apartment to pick up her things and even though she had wanted to, there was no way that that would have happened because there was no way that she was going to let Raphael's driver drive over there for her to pick them up because
The noise; the moans and low groans sounded like it was coming from somewhere far away, like somewhere from the inner rooms. Arlo was unsure if the sounds were real or it was just his mind making it up, he hoped that it was his mind making it up, he hoped that none of it was real but him standing there, the sounds rising and falling like tides in a beach proved to him that the scenario was anything but fake.Arlo felt a fear like he had never before. There were two things that could happen, two things that he can do; he could either walk away from all this and pretend like none of this ever happened or he could confront it head on by walking into the room and catching Vivienne doing exactly what he knew she was doing. Walking away was a safe choice, walking away would mean that he would not have to go through any of the heartbreak that was threatening to happen, walking away would mean that they could move on with this and maybe he could even forgive himself for kissing Jenny and who
Jenny's eyes widened in shock when Arlo leaned in to kiss her. She wanted to relax into the kiss, she wanted to savor the moment and keep the memory stored for later but for some reason she couldn't. This was what she had wanted since the beginning, this was what she had been dreaming of all day every day but now that it was happening it did not feel right, something about it felt off…forced…wrong. Jenny pulled away from the kiss, she looked away, awkward and Slightly embarrassed, it did not feel as she had imagined that it would, there was no fireworks in her chest, no butterflies running rampage in her stomach, nothing, it felt like nothing, just empty and hollow like it should not be, like it was not meant to be.Jenny's cheeks were crimson with mild discomfort, she avoided Arlo's gaze, and instead stared into her hands. Arlo of course noticed this discomfort and immediately became apologetic.“Oh shit, I'm sorry about that. I am such an idiot! I just thought…I'm such an idiot, I'm
Raya had never hated anybody as much as she hated Raphael at that moment. The fact that he thought that he had the right to tell her what she could and could not do irked her. The fact that he thought she would just obey him, that she would forget everything she went through because of him, everything he and his psychotic team put her through, everything they put her mother through, how she was thrown out of his house for something she does no still understand, how he had watched from the window of the room upstairs as his chauffeur who had made it his duty to make her life a living hell since she got there ruthlessly threw her out.All these memories came back clearer and more stronger, it fueled the anger she felt towards him, made her want to rebel against him even more, made her want to make him feel every bit of pain and resentment and abandonment that she had felt in those moments.“You cannot tell me what to do!” Raya said. The driver stood awkwardly by the side of the car, no
It is crazy when everything comes to a head. When all the feelings and emotions rush in all at once, when nothing makes sense but yet everything becomes more vivid. Lights. Colors. Pain. Screams. Fear. Anxiety, they all take up similar skin, they all look the same, they all feel the same, imitatin
Jenny fidgetted as she thought about what to say next to Zara. She was not sure if she should just send the location and move on. She did not know if that could be considered polite and also because it was the Zara Smith Jenny felt a compulsion to say something else, she unintentionall
“Hello,” he said into the phone. That was him…him…the one person that she shouldn't call, the person that had wrecked her life, the person who had caused her mother's death, the person that had thrown her out on the street like she was nothing more than garbage. Raya held the phone to her ears. S
“Can you get me a meeting with her?” The almost villainous calculating Matriarch said. Her light blue eyes caught the light being emitted from the golden diamond studded chandelier above them. The small on her lips was not one of gratitude, not necessarily, it was due to the satisfaction she felt
