Chapter 105

Selene’s POV

The glass cup clinked softly against the table as I set it down, my fingers trembling just enough to betray my nerves. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand, the faint taste of wine lingering on my lips.

“Are you alright?” Caius’s voice was low, cutting through the quiet hum of the room.

I nodded, barely, my eyes fixed on the table’s polished grain.

“Are you sure?” he pressed, his tone softer now, almost coaxing.

I sighed, my shoulders sagging under the weight of thoughts I couldn’t shake. Forcing a laugh, I met his gaze, his dark eyes catching the dim light like polished obsidian.

“Do you think I’m… unfortunate?” My voice wavered, the word tasting bitter. “I mean, have you ever felt like you don’t belong anywhere? Like no matter where you go, you’re just… out of place?”

It sounded foolish even as I said it, a human asking a werewolf about belonging. But the ache in my chest didn’t care how ridiculous it was.

Chapter 116Selene’s POVMy fingers trembled as they clawed at his shirt, tugging it off with a desperation I couldn’t control. Heat was coiling inside me like fire, and whatever this was, it was burning through my veins, making me reckless. His hands slid down, rough but sure, tugging my dress higher until I lifted my hips to help him. In one swift move, he stripped it away, leaving me bare except for my panties. My chest rose and fell, breathless.“Little wolf,” he murmured, his lips brushing against my skin. The way he said it—low, possessive—made my entire body shudder. His mouth trailed down slowly, until he was pressing kisses across my stomach, down my waist, lingering just above my panties.“Are you sure about this?” His voice was hoarse, but his hands didn’t stop. One slid upward, cupping my breast through the thin fabric of my bra. His thumb teased over my nipple, making me gasp.“Yes,” I breathed, my voice trembling into a moan.He smirked, his eyes dark with hunger, before

Chapter 115Caius’ POVI returned to the table, but Selene was gone. Her purse and phone were still there.I picked them up, my brows furrowing. Where would she go without her things? That wasn’t like her.A sudden, sharp dread struck my chest. Something was wrong.I asked the receptionist if they had seen a young woman matching her description, but they shook their heads. “No one like that has come through today.”Panic crawled beneath my skin. I searched the restrooms, then immediately called for backup from my Beta.“Seen her?” I asked.“No, Alpha.”Shit.My pulse thundered. Had this been Darius’ plan? To lure me away with those men just so he could take her?I swore to the Moon Goddess, I would not spare him when I found him.I stalked down the hallway away from the event hall and stopped when I spotted something glinting on the floor, Selene’s earring. The same one she’d been wearing earlier.I bent, picking it up, my teeth clenched.I tried following her scent, but it was faint,

She still seemed annoyed from earlier.I finally took her hand, and we both walked inside.I wouldn’t say I’m poor, but I’m certainly not as explicitly wealthy as Aria’s parents. She led me over to their table.“Mom, Dad. Meet Chris.”They exchanged a strange look, like they’d never even heard my name. But Aria told me she had already given them a heads-up. Her eyes flickered toward them in warning, and I could see her gritting her teeth at their reaction.“Oh—the one you’ve always talked about,” her mother was the first to speak. She sneered lightly at her husband. “Honey, do you remember?”He gave a sudden laugh and nodded. “Ah, yes. The one you talked about.” He grinned, but it was clear he didn’t remember a thing.Anyway, I was offered a seat and a drink.Throughout the meal, they weren’t even interested in me, speaking only about business, business,

Chapter 113Selene’s POV“A party? All of a sudden?”I sat in Director Caius’s large sitting room, staring at him in disbelief. He had just told me we were both attending a party. What was I supposed to be here, his girlfriend?“I detest things like this,” he said flatly, “but I have to be there.”“Then go with someone else.”“I’d rather decline the invitation than go with someone else.” His reply was sharp, sincere, and, somewhere deep inside me, it made me feel… special.“I dislike the sight of human females. Always clingy and hard to please. Unlike you, who doesn’t expect anything.”Yeah, right. What was I supposed to expect from a werewolf anyway? And yet, the thought tangled in me more than I liked. Can't believe I thought of myself as special before him.“If you truly don’t feel like going, we can stay.”“Let’s go,” I said quickly. But the incident at the office with Chris still clung to my brain. Why did Chris do that? Could it be that he felt the same way I did? My fingers br

Chapter 112Chris’s POVI slowed when I caught sight of her.Selene sat on the garden bench, moonlight washing her hair. She wasn’t alone. Caius stood too close, leaning in, his hand brushing hers in a way that tightened my chest.I couldn’t hear what he whispered, but I saw the way Selene’s lips parted. My jaw clenched. I should’ve walked away. I should’ve told myself it was nothing. But the image burned behind my eyes.I pulled out my cell phone and sent a text. By the time she glanced up, I was already gone.~~~~~~The next morning, I went to her apartment but was told she had moved out.Frustrated, I took a cab straight to work. I confronted Director Caius, but what he said still baffles me.Was I the one hurting Selene? After storming out of his office, I went straight to Selene’s desk. I held her arm, pulling her out of the office and up to the rooftop before I finally let go.She gave me a disdainful look, rubbing her wrist.“What’s wrong with you?” she demanded.“Selene.” My v

Chapter 111Caius’s POVThe library was quiet, the only sound was the slow rustle of paper as I flipped through the pages of a book I wasn’t really reading. The door creaked open.“My Alpha.” One of my men entered, bowing his head. He placed an envelope carefully on the table. “Darius sent a message.”The name was enough to make my eyes narrow. The last time we met, he left with one less eye. Yet he never stopped coming back.I broke the seal and slid out the contents. A single photograph of Selene. Her face stared up at me, innocent, vulnerable. My jaw clenched.I flipped the photo. Four words scrawled on the back. Pretty, isn’t she?My fist tightened around the picture, the edges crumpling. A growl threatened to tear from my throat. Darius had made his intentions clear.I rose sharply, storming out of the library. I pulled up Selene’s location on my phone, relief flooding me when the signal lit. Grabbing my coat, I drove through the night with a speed that barely kept the car on the
