Chapter 121

Tears fell freely from my eyes as I stood up, breathing hard.

“I never asked you to sacrifice your marriage for me. But I won’t sit here and let you talk to me like that.” My body trembled as I spoke.

“I thought… I thought with time I could understand you. I agreed to be by your side even though I was never the one you chose, but every damn time, I’m the one who ends up hurt.” Tears streamed down my face as my voice cracked.

Chris just stared at me.

“I only came to the hotel with Director Caius for the same party that brought you and Aria. Why don’t you ask her? She was also at the party. My drink was spiked—you can figure out the rest.” My voice shook with anger and betrayal as I grabbed my bag and walked out of the bar.

He didn’t stop me or run after me.

I hailed a taxi and got off at a nearby park. It wasn’t crowded, and I found a quiet corner where I collapsed onto a bench and cried my heart out.

Chapter 126I alighted from the cab and turned to see Caius standing in front of the gate. The moment he spotted me, he walked toward me quickly.“Where have you been? And why weren’t you picking up your calls?”I said nothing. Instead, I brushed past him and entered the compound.“Goodnight, Director Caius,” I muttered before slipping into my apartment.Grandma was already asleep. Good, she didn’t need to see my head like this. I didn’t want her worrying. Why did I take the hit for him? What was I even thinking?Groaning, I fell backward on my bed, drowning in thoughts. It’ll be over soon. Once Detective Romano gets the evidence he needs, this will all be over.I left for work early the next morning, before Grandma woke up. Settling at my desk, I buried myself in the computer, searching through case files, anything to keep my mind off Director Caius and everything surrounding him. Mary rushed into the office, straight to my desk, and pulled up a chair. “A house caught fire down

Chapter 125“Selene, I love you. I’ve realized it now. I know you love me too. Just come with me.”“You’re drunk, Chris. Go back home.”~~~~~~The way he keeps saying ‘you are mine’ taking possession of me at free will. I can't be with a person like him.But…..I touched my lips where Caius had kissed me. “Watch out!” I suddenly shouted, pushing him aside. But I wasn’t quick enough to move away myself— the rod struck my head hard. Pain exploded, and everything went black as I collapsed to the ground. Caius’s growl shook the air. Whatever alcohol was left in Chris’s system seemed to burn away instantly when he realized I had taken the hit meant for Caius. But Caius had no time to deal with him. He scooped me up and carried me swiftly to his vehicle, his eyes flashing dangerously at Chris before driving off. The car engine roared as Caius sped toward the hospital. Blood dripped steadily from the cut on my head. The moment we arrived, I was wheeled into a VIP ward. Nurses rush

Chapter 124Director Caius grabbed my hand, pulling me behind him as we ran through the crowd. We pushed past the playground until we reached an empty area where no people were in sight. Both of us stopped, panting hard.Caius glanced around cautiously, then pushed me behind him.“Stay close to me,” he muttered. The park lights barely reached this part of the grounds. Shadows stretched long and heavy, making it hard to see, but I heard snarling sounds circling us.Caius rolled up his sleeves. In a blur, he moved, fast, precise, deadly. Snarls turned into whimpers, followed by heavy thuds against the ground. One of them nearly got to me, but Caius appeared in an instant, snapping its neck before it could even touch me.That was when I saw someone lingering in the corner. I looked back, Caius was still busy with Darius’s wolves. Without thinking, I ran toward the figure. He caught my hand and quickly pulled me away.We stopped far from Caius.“What are you doing here?” I whispered sharp

Chapter 123Selene’s POVI didn’t go to work for an entire week. Grandma had back-to-back checkups, and I had to stay with her through all of them.Director Caius showed up at our door unexpectedly. He wanted to thank Grandma, then politely asked for her permission to let me help him.Grandma didn’t hesitate before throwing me out with him.I scoffed under my breath. She’s really petty. My stomach growled.Grandma even handed him food, dished mine as well, then slammed the door in my face, saying I wasn’t allowed back inside until sunset.I gasped in disbelief. And now here I was, stuck with this handsome wolf, who thought he was being subtle but kept stealing glances at me like I wouldn’t notice.I helped him fold his clothes, though it drained the last bit of energy from me.Later, I set out the food on the dining table when the doorbell rang.“I think you have a visitor,” I said, starting toward the door. But he beat me to it. “Just dish out the food, I’ll handle it.”I nodded and

Everything?”“Chris, what do you mean?” Aria feigned innocence, sitting at her table with a cup of drink in hand.“This.” Chris tossed his cell phone toward her.He turned his back, running a hand over his head in frustration.“I know nothing about this,” she said lightly, pushing the phone aside with a smile.Chris’s fingers clenched.“Besides,” Aria added with a smirk, “you can kiss marrying me goodbye. You failed to do one simple thing.”Chris stood frozen, staring at her. She rose from her chair and moved to the balcony, gripping the railings as she looked down below.“That picture…” Chris’s voice shook as he drew in a deep breath. “It was you who sent it. You tried to endanger Selene’s life, and you’re still standing here arguing.”Aria spun around, forced anger twisting her face.“What exactly is it about Selene? You’re always with her, always smiling around her!” she shouted.“I gave you more, Aria,”
