Dark’s POV

Sal entered the water with me. At first, he was reluctant, staring at me like something forbidden.

“Aren’t you going to take your bath too?”

“No, I won’t. I’ll just wait till I return to my room. I’m okay this way.” He forced a smile, one I could clearly see didn’t reach his eyes.

A few hours later, after eating the little fruit Sal had plucked from the trees around, and then the meat he had caught and we roasted—

He was very good at hunting. I’ll give him that.

Night came. He sat a few meters away from me, just staring into the sky.

“You didn’t ask what made me go rogue a day ago,” I muttered.

“It’s not in my position to ask questions. I am merely your assistant and nothing more.”

I scoffed at his reply. He was obviously being sarcastic right now. “Even your words sound like you’re pushing yourself not to ask. Your left arm—was I the one?”

He covered the arm with his palm, looking downward.
