CHAPTER 6

Author's POV

Caleb, along with a little group, returned to Blue moon. The pack members gasped upon seeing them, they covered their faces, rushing into their houses.

“Hey, wait there.” A deep voice said, making them halt in their tracks.

The rugged fellow, with a rigid face and a scar that draws from his forehead across his left eye was none other than Beta Nightfury, the strongest wolf In the pack.

Despite his strength, his loyalty belongs only to Alpha Killian and if he requests that he rolls on dirt, he would gladly do it.

Most call him, the loyal dog, but that's mostly behind his back.

“Why the hell do you hold a cloth soaked in blood? Shouldn't you know better to put it in a bag instead of parading it round the pack like some sort of flag?”

Caleb and the other three men behind him went on their knees immediately.

Nightfury, raise his eyebrows at the other three. “Care to explain why you bring in rogues?”

“Beta Nightfury, we request to see Alpha Killian.” Caleb replied.

“And why is that?”

Caleb swallowed hard, he better gives a good reason or the next thing is his half beaten body drawn towards the Alpha.

“These are rogues who took on the job of hunting the ex Luna.”

Beta Nightfury, lips curved in a wide smile. “I see.” He muttered, staring at the blood soaked clothes again. “Follow me.”

They followed him into the pack house, where Alpha Killian resided. Beta Nightfury ordered them to wait outside while he goes in to inform Alpha Killian of their presence.

“Come in.” Another guard opened the door while they entered.

Caleb and the three rogues dropped to their knees bowing their head and only rose after Alpha Killian's order.

“I am Caleb, one of the Blue moon warriors.” Caleb introduced. “I was ordered to scout weak points along the border, but in the process, I found these three rogues. They were chasing after a lady and I followed them only to realize that they were chasing after ex Luna Selene.”

The others present in the room, Including Lilliana, who sat next to Alpha Killian. She gasped at first, but slowly a smirk formed on her face.

“She must be trying to return to get revenge for what was done to her.” Lilliana said, she turned to Killian. “I was right, my love. It was a good thing we placed a bounty on her.”

Alpha Killian nodded slowly. “I hope you've brought me better news. I'm tired of getting reports that she was spotted and yet no better report that she's been killed.”

Caleb raised the blood soaked gown, it was the exact one Selene had worn when she ran out of the pack.

Alpha Killian's eyes widened, there was no where he perceives this scent that he'll ever mistake it, it was definitely Selene's.

“Where did you get this?” Alpha Killian growled.

The rogues came forward bringing out an arm, on its fingers was a familiar ring that Alpha Killian would recognize anywhere because he gave it to Selene himself.

“Ex Luna Selene is dead, my Alpha.” Caleb bowed as he said.

Lilliana rose smiling. “Wonderful, you've done well.”

Alpha Killian was silent for a while, then he finally rose walking towards Caleb. “Tell me, how did she die?”

Caleb had a hard time giving a detailed description of how they took Selene by surprise and have her killed. He had to make the story seem like Selene's body was battered, and her arm was the only recognizable part of her they could bring.

Alpha Killian nodded impressed, “You've really done well, and I'm proud of you, Caleb. You had a hand in bringing a traitor of your pack down, that shows how much you will fight for your pack.” He praised Caleb and finally held his hand, turning to the others.

“Caleb is now one of my personal guards, he has proven himself worthy.” He glanced at Beta Nightfury and then, the other three rogues.

Caleb wasn't expecting what happened next, his jaw dropped, and his fist clenched tightly at his side, but he dared not show it.

Beta Nightfury, cut off the rogues head before everyone.

“This rogue could one day stand up to us. It's better to get rid of them now.” Alpha Killian said and looked at Caleb. “Give him the rewards, he deserves it more as a fearless pack member.”

Caleb forced a smile, dropping to his knee and thanking Alpha Killian.

*******

Caleb was given a house and money as part of the reward. He was once an errand boy, but now a trusted guard of Alpha Killian.

All of those who regarded him as low began to envy him. They had tried their best to impress the Alpha, they wanted to be close to Alpha Killian and yet, the boy they overlooked took the position right before their very eyes.

They felt insulted, they refuse to believe that Caleb did anything in the death of Selene.

Caleb lay on his bed half drunk, the few who pretended to be happy for his new position had taken him out and made him spent a lot on drinking and foods. They called it celebration, tricking him but more like forcing him to spend his money on buying drinks to satisfy themselves.

Beta Nightfury had saved him from their hands. They scurried away seeing him and left Caleb who could barely run due to his drunken state.

Beta Nightfury forgave his nonchalant attitude this once and warned him against drinking next time. He had some guards carry Caleb to his room.

Caleb, now sober, took out a paper and ink. He wrote on it and rolled it, tiring it with a small rope as he attached it to the stronghold of a black bird.

Riven had given him the bird to pass information across to them.

*****

“Do you think that brat can be trusted?” Silas asked. “He might just lead them to us.”

“We should wait, if he proves useless, then we go with our plans. I don't trust anyone from Blue moon.”

“I think we shouldn't judge yet, he might just be useful after all.” Riven said, his gaze on the bird flying towards him. The bird landed on his shoulder and placed the letter in its mouth in Riven's palm.

Riven unwrapped the letter, he looked up at the others with a smirk, “It worked.”

Chapter 198 They reached the pack house, Selene squeezed Lydia’s hand, then let her go to Caius, who lifted her onto his shoulders. Inside the pack house, Lena sank into a chair, in the large sitting room, stretching her legs with a groan. “Long night,” she said, managing a tired grin. Selene laughed softly, settling Lydia onto the couch with a blanket. “You’re telling me.” She glanced at Caius, who was leaning against the wall, watching them quietly . Her mind flicked back to the moment at the house, before the mind link, before Romano. “Hey,” she said, her voice low, “what was it you wanted to tell me back there?” Caius’s eyes softened, a small smile tugging at his lips. He pushed off the wall, crossing the room to her. “Been waiting for the right moment,” he said. Selene’s brow furrowed, “What’re you talking about?” He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he dropped to one knee, pulling a small, worn leather box from his pocket. Selene’s breath caught, her eyes widening as he

His eyes widened as he saw them, scrambling to his feet, but there was nowhere to go. The wall was at his back, and Caius and Selene blocked his only way out. “End of the line,” Caius said, his voice cold. Romano’s lips curled into a sneer, but it was shaky, his bravado crumbling. “You think you’ve got me? I’m not the one you should be worried about.” Selene stepped forward. “Spare us the games, Romano. Who let you out?” He laughed. “No one. I did it myself. You think your little lock could hold me? I’ve been slipping through cracks my whole life.” Caius’s eyes narrowed. “You’re lying. That key didn’t break itself.” Romano’s gaze darted between them, his hands twitching at his sides. “Believe what you want. Doesn’t matter now. You’re too late.” Selene’s patience snapped. She lunged, grabbing his collar and slamming him against the wall

A small crowd of pack members gathered nearby. Selene caught the glint of unease in their eyes as she and Caius approached. “Alpha,” Kael said, stepping forward. His gaze flicked to Selene, then back to Caius. “It’s Romano. He’s gone.” Selene’s stomach dropped. “Gone? How? He was locked up.” Kael’s jaw tightened. “Someone let him out. Don’t know who yet. The guards were knocked out, no serious injuries, but they didn’t see anything. We’re searching for him now.” Caius’s eyes darkened, his voice low. “Any tracks? Scent?” Kael shook his head. “Nothing clear. It’s like he vanished. But the pack’s on edge, they are scared.” Selene glanced at the gathered wolves, she stepped closer to Caius, her voice low. “We need to calm them down before this turns into a mess.” He nodded, his expression hard but focused. “Kael

He was sprawled in a chair nearby, one leg kicked up on the railing, a book open on his lap. His fingers traced the page, but his eyes kept flicking to her, a lazy grin tugging at his lips. “You’re not reading,” she teased, nudging his foot with hers. He chuckled, closing the book with a soft thud. “Caught me. Hard to focus when you’re over there looking like that.” Selene rolled her eyes, but her cheeks flushed. “Smooth talker.” She swung her legs off the swing and stood, brushing her hands on her shorts. “Come on, let’s do something. I’m not sitting here all day.” Caius raised an eyebrow, setting the book aside. “Oh? What’s my Luna got in mind?” She grinned, grabbing his hand and tugging him up. “A walk. Show me around this secret hideout of yours.” He let her pull him along, his fingers lacing through her

Chapter 194 Selene blinked slowly, the morning light stretching through the curtains and casting gentle patterns across the room. Her gaze drifted to the man beside her. Caius. He was lying on his side, his face turned toward hers. The curve of his jaw was strong, his lips, soft and slightly parted as he breathed. She reached out, brushing a finger along his cheek, tracing the roughness that belied his gentleness. Caius stirred. His eyes cracked open slowly, and they found hers in a moment that felt suspended in time. Selene quickly looked away, a heat rising to her cheeks. A low laugh rumbled from him, warm and teasing. He shifted on the bed, settling lightly on top of her, leaning closer until their foreheads almost touched. “You know,” he murmured with a grin, “I’ve always wanted to see how you looked as Sal, again.” Selene scoffed, the sound turning into a laugh as she pushed lightly at his chest. “Never. That’s one thing you will never get to see again.” He chuckled, and

They had nowhere to go after the humans came after them and destroyed their properties. Selene watched him from a distance and walked quietly toward him. “You’ve been standing here too long,” she said softly. He didn’t turn. “I needed to think.” Selene came beside him, folding her arms. “Are you still worried?” Caius exhaled. “They want me to lead them. After everything we’ve lost, they still believe I can fix it.” He finally turned, his eyes meeting hers. “But I’m not that man anymore, Selene. I’m tired of fighting, tired of watching people die because of me.” Selene’s voice was calm. “You think leadership means more blood. But it doesn’t have to. You could rebuild something better, Caius. Something peaceful—for Lydia, for everyone who never got to live.” He shook his head. “And if I fail again?” “You won’t.” She steppe
