Selene’s POV

Director Caius dropped me off a few streets away from my actual home. I’d given him a different address, I couldn’t risk him knowing where I lived.

“You’ll be staying with me soon. In the next three days, pack your things. I’ll come to get you.”

That was the last thing he said before I stepped out of the car.

I hesitated. The words clung to my throat. I clenched my fists before forcing them out.

“Can it be… occasionally? I can’t move in completely.”

“Why?” he asked flatly, his expression unreadable.

I groaned inwardly. That emotionless look made me want to slap the expression off his face.

“What if… my family wants to come visit?”

He leaned in slightly, his hands tucked neatly in his pockets. I instinctively leaned back, crossing my arms over my chest.

“The only family you have is your grandmother. Or is there someone else I should know about?” he asked calmly.

I considered mentioning Chris, but I dropped the idea.

“So, it still stands. You’ll be staying at my place after

Chapter 99Selene’s POVThe car pulled up in front of the hospital. What were we doing here? The driver handed me a bag containing a dress. “He asked that you put this on.”I furrowed my brows. “Why?”“He didn’t tell me anything, only asked me to give you the dress.”I took it from him, and he returned to the vehicle, driving off.Still confused, I entered the hospital. He hadn’t even told me where to meet Director Caius.I approached the receptionist and asked if there was somewhere I could change. I was directed to a store room.As I unfolded the dress, a small paper slipped from it and fell to the ground.“When you are done dressing, come to Room 506.”“Is he sick?” I muttered, picking up the note. The dress was simple, one-shoulder, floral, and flowy, with a matching ribbon. I slipped it on, letting my hair fall while tying the front with the ribbon. After packing the clothes I took off into a small bag, I stepped out and searched for Room 506.It wasn’t easy to find, but with the

Chapter 98Selene's POVChris took me to a cafe after leaving Director Caius. We ordered two bottles of cold drink and a plate of food. I insisted on taking chips because I wasn't hungry.Chris ate in silence, his eyes focused on me.“Are you going to say something or just keep staring?” I muttered, dipping a chip into my mouth.Chris wiped his mouth with a handkerchief, then folded his arms on the table.“Are you alright?” he asked, and I nodded. But instead of relaxing, he stood halfway from his seat and touched my forehead.I was caught off guard. My ears instantly turned red as he checked my body.“I’m fine, Chris,” I said quickly. He looked at me one more time before sitting back down. “That gunshot I heard... Was it the director?”I shook my head immediately. “No, it wasn’t him. Why would you even think that?”Chris didn’t reply, but his expression told me he was pissed, clearly at the director.“I was chased by some unknown man. He fired a shot at me, but the director showed up

chapter 97Selene’s POV“Thank you,” I muttered, taking the coin from Caius and turning toward Chris.“Hey,” I said, smiling as I waved. He walked over, his gaze briefly flicking toward Director Caius, who was already walking away without a word.“I’m ready. Let’s go,” I said quickly, urging him along. He nodded, and we headed out in the company van, driving straight to the airport. We arrived thirty minutes early. A crowd of reporters had already gathered, buzzing like bees, checking their watches and phones. Everyone was restless under the burning sun, but no one moved an inch.Exactly on time, a plane descended in the sky.As it landed, the reporters surged forward, each one desperate to be the first to get a quote. I pushed through the crowd, microphone in hand, John right behind me with the camera rolling. But we were stopped. Police officers had formed a barricade, keeping us from getting too close. I caught a glimpse of Dr. Bright stepping elegantly from the aircraft, her hair

Later in the day, I received a call from the director's office. When I got there, he didn’t look at me. He just pointed at the pile of files on his table.“Me?” I asked, a little confused.“Finish them all before you leave,” he said flatly, returning his focus to the computer.I stared at him for a moment before dragging the files off his desk and dropping them loudly on mine. That damn director. I swear, I’ll put him in his place someday.I sat down and began sorting through the files, writing, editing, and preparing them for publication. One by one, everyone left the office.“Selene, aren’t you going home?” Mary asked.I raised my tired eyes. “I will, once I’m done with these.”“Alright, see you tomorrow,” she said, waving before disappearing. Soon, I was the only one left.“Selene? You’re still at the office? I thought you’d left. I called you several times.” Chris called, walking over to my desk.I checked my phone, it was on silent. I must’ve been too focused.“I’ll be leaving so

Selene’s POV“Stop being friends? I don’t really understand.”“Selene… she meant it’s either I choose you or her.”My face fell. “She actually said that? So… what’s your choice? Aria or me?”For some reason, I was terrified to hear his answer.“Are you really asking me that?” he said, quietly. “You know better than anyone how much Aria means to me. But I can’t stop being close to you either.”“So will you forfeit your marriage then?”Chris went silent.“I’m still thinking about it,” he muttered. “I… I can’t pick, Selene.”What was there to think about, anyway? As much as I wanted him to choose me, deep down, I already knew he never would.“There’s fifteen minutes left,” I said, changing the subject. “Shouldn’t we get ready for the flight?”I didn’t want this conversation to go on. It was awkward and painful.I went back to my room, packed my things, and left for the airport. The whole flight home, I couldn’t stop thinking about what Chris said. He can’t pick. So, in the end, I’d lose
