CHAPTER 9

Selene's POV

I sat quietly under the tree lost in my thoughts and only turned when Riven tapped me.

“I've trying to get your attention, but it seems you were thinking of something else. What's bothering you?” he asked sitting next to me.

I sighed wondering if I should just escape the question or simply say I was tired.

“Where do you think those twenty rogues will be? Do you think they would have been caught?”

Riven shrugged hitting my shoulder lightly. “Why are you bothered about them. They made their decisions. They were arrogant looking down on you. So, I careless about them right from.”

“Oh come on Riven. You shouldn't say that. They were only scared. They've been in pain, and we're not just patient enough. That's all I see. I don't blame them, they were just desperate to have revenge.” I muttered.

Riven picked up a stone throwing it playfully. “So any plans? Because according to Caleb, Killian will be attacking in two days. Have you thought of a way forward?”

I nodded though unsure.

“Remember the rogue you told me about. The one with an abandoned pack filled with rogues.”

Riven Express suddenly changed. He shook his head refusing my idea instantly.

“But why? Just imagine we go to him, he could help us. Besides, it's a win-win for both sides if Killian is defeated.” I tried to reason with him.

Riven refused the idea still. “Even Killian will think twice to attack that man. He's crazy. Only gives a fuck about his people. As long as Killian doesn't disturb him he won't disturb Killian either. It's like an agreement from both sides, so I doubt that idea of yours is going to work.” he diverted his gaze. His warm expression gone.

Silas and Dara approached us. Dara gave Riven a killer stare. “Why did you bring her out alone? What are you doing?” she demanded eyeing him suspiciously.

Riven was in no mood for jokes, he told them what I was up to immediately, and they also refused.

“Come on guys, you have to tell me why. You can't just say no and hide things from me, how do you persuade me that way?” I looked at their faces one by one. They were holding back, so definitely they were hiding some truth.

“Riven had an encounter with him once, but he's barely escaped with his life.” Dara began.

“I thought he helps rogues. Isn't he one too?”

Dara nodded. “Yes he is a rogue and according to what we all heard, he was banished by his father since he was still a young boy.”

The revelation shocked me to the core. Why would a father banish his young son? How does he expect him to survive alone?

“He's name is Caius, but he prefers to be called Dark, a name he gave himself and lived to its reputation.” Dara continued.

“Dark is surrounded by an army of rogues. There are no weak or old. Thinking of going to him is like approaching your death. Dark is merciless especially to women. He gives them to his rogue soldiers to have fun with.”

Dara's explanation sent a cold chill down my spine. I was suddenly having second thoughts, but how do we fight against Killian when we are just four? It feels impossible, but there was nothing wrong In trying.

Dara stared at my face with a sigh. “You still don't understand who this man is with my explanation. He won't spare us if we trespass.”

“We aren't trespassing, we are going there willingly to see him. And I have just the perfect plan to convince him.”

“Convince him?” Riven who had been silent since finally spoke up.

“I'll go wherever Selene choose to. I believe in her.” Silas said, and they looked at him like he had just betrayed them.

Dara muttered in a low tone. “You should know Riven can't come with us.”

I nodded. “I'll think of something. But I want us to leave quickly. Let's leave tonight, who is in?”

Dara and Riven looked at each other with hesitance.

Silas declared he was ready. Dara and Riven let out a deep sigh before declaring they were ready too.

“But make sure your plan is superb. Dark is not someone to joke with.” Riven said he's normal warm demeanor retuning.

I felt stronger with their support. To be honest, my idea was a brutal one. But as it seems, it was the option we had.

At night, we left for Dark's territory.

We slept on our way as the journey was far.

Finally, at dawn. We reached Dark's territory. The place flooded with rough-looking rogue. Their sights were scary.

I swallowed hard.

“Are we going now?” Dara asked.

I brought out the clothes in the bag handing it over to Dara.

”What for?“ she whispered.

Dark doesn't take women. The best was to go in disguise.

“And you are suggesting that?” Dara stared at me in disbelief.

Riven and Silas grinned, trying to hide their laughter.

Dara shot them a hard glare and turned to me.

”We don't have a choice Dara, this is our only solution."

She reluctantly stood up and left to change.

“What do you want?“ Killian asked Mathew. ”Why have you returned?“

Mathew gave him a shocking expression and chuckled. ”Don't I belong here anymore? Am I no longer welcomed?“

”You should watch your tongue then. I'll be attacking the eastern packs and expanding our territory. You should sit back and watch me don't stir trouble.” Killian warned.

Mathew looked at him amused. "When is this attack?“

Killian was reluctant, he knows the kind of person he calls brother what he's capable of, but Mathew will find out anyway.

”it's in two days.“ Killian replied.

Selene’s grip on the gun faltered, and she lowered it.He slipped a hand into his pocket as he walked forward, calm, and composed.“I am Romano, a detective. You can either come with us quietly… or we’ll force you.”Selene’s eyes snapped to him. “But you promised I’d kill him.”Romano’s lips curved in a smug grin. “Calm down, Selene. You’ll have the pleasure soon enough. Do you think a werewolf would ever let himself be captured alive?” His gaze slid to me, a glint of amusement in his eyes. “Of course not.”My jaw tightened. “What’s all this about?”He chuckled. “Why don’t we let Miss Selene explain? She’s earned that much.”Selene looked at me for a long moment, her expression hard, before speaking. “Remember when I told you about my parents? That they died when a dam broke in my town?”I nodded slowly. That memory was etched in me.Her voice cracked, but her fists clenched. “That was a lie. My parents didn’t die because o

I hit the ground hard, rolled, and pushed to my feet.Above, Darius’s helicopter lifted off, climbing toward the roof of another building. My chest tightened. If he got away with those drugs, it was over.I sprinted to my car, kicked the engine alive, and slammed my foot on the pedal. The tires screamed against the ground as I tore down the road toward the border. Two guards at the barricade waved their arms wildly. “Stop the car!”No chance. I pressed harder on the accelerator. The car thundered forward, smashing through the blockade. The guards dove out of the way, shouting after me as they scrambled into a vehicle and gave chase. In my rearview mirror, their headlights closed in. I jerked the wheel right, then left, te

Chapter 147Caius’s POVDarius had his men escort me back to a room readied for me.I knew he’d tightened the security—werewolves stationed outside, their eyes sharp, and ears tuned to every sound. But what gnawed at me wasn’t them. It was Kael. Why hasn’t he answered the link?Has he been caught? There was no way I was sitting in here waiting to find out. My gaze swept the room until it landed on the window. Perfect.I climbed through, landing softly on my feet, and straightened. Keeping my head low, I slipped into the shadows, moving fast toward Darius’s building.Half the Alphas weren’t in their rooms. At least half. That alone told me something was happening.I pressed my ear against the wall of the chamber I guessed was his.“I’m really glad you came, Alpha Rowan.”That was Darius’s voice.Rowan. The Alpha of a rogue pack. He was known for ignoring every law of the werewolf council.“I should be glad you called me,” Rowan replied. “Where’s the thing you spoke of?”My jaw tightene

Chapter 146Caius’s POV“To what do we owe the pleasure of your presence, Caius?” Darius’s tone was relaxed, but I could see the cracks in his composure. He was trying hard to keep his mask intact. “As far as I know, you don’t just walk into gatherings like this one.”I sneered, my gaze sliding across the room. Every seat was taken. Not a single chair was vacant. I guess no one expected me.“I’m sorry,” Darius said with a smug smile. “We didn’t save you a seat. You never said you were coming.”My eyes drifted, slow and deliberate, until they landed on the chair directly opposite him.“I don’t need a space,” I said, my voice low. “I make mine.”I started toward the Alpha seated there.“What do you think you’re doing?” Darius’s voice dropped, “I already told you—there’s no seat. Everyone sitting here is an Alpha. No one will give up their place for you.” His lips curled with amusement. “You can stand at the back like a guard. Besides—” he smirked, “you came late.”The other Alphas laugh

Chapter 145I carried a cup of water back to the dining room, but Caius wasn’t there.Frowning, I set the cup down and walked to his room. The door creaked as I pushed it open.He was wrapped tightly in a blanket, his body trembling beneath it.“Oh my—” My chest tightened. Did he get sick so suddenly?I rushed to his side and knelt by the bed. Placing a hand on his forehead, I whispered, “Are you sick?”A low groan escaped him as he clutched the blanket to his neck. Tiny red dots peppered his face, and his skin burned beneath my palm.I pulled the blanket back. The rash had spread across his chest and arms. My breath hitched.“Are you… allergic?”He gave me the smallest nod. My heart sank. He must be in so much pain.“Why didn’t you say anything?” My voice was low, heavy with guilt.“Don’t worry,” he rasped. “I’ve taken my pills. Ten minutes… I’ll be fine.”I bit my lip hard, lowering myself to sit by the bed, my knees tucked under me. My gaze dropped to the floor, shame weighing me d
