4: trap

"Why is she staring like that?" Liana said in her mind. Eyes drawn on the piles of paper Kai asked her to do, but she could see Kai's eyes focusing on her through her peripheral vision.

Today is Liana's first day. It was supposed to be yesterday, but then Kai understood Liana still has a few things to process regarding her being fired from work. Also, he had set up Liana's table, which is exactly across from his.

Few hours of Liana working and she felt like Kai hadn't taken his eyes off her. She's starting to think that Kai wants to continue the sex with her.

Liana looked up at Kai. Kai was brave enough to hold a staring contest with Liana, although the latter wasn't. Liana quickly gazed away, making Kai chuckled quietly.

"You keep staring at me. Don't you have work to do?" Liana asked, breaking the silence.

"I have. I am working right now," Kai answered.

"You're not,"

"I am. My job is to observe how you work to see if you're deserving of the position,"

Liana just sighed. She needed to take a hold of her anger. Kai is her boss now. She couldn't just get angry at him or else no huge salary awaits at the end of the month.

Kai felt grateful Liana didn't speak anymore. It just means Kai can stare longer. The distance between Kai and Liana is just perfect. In that way, Kai wouldn't see Liana's features that Stella doesn't have. It makes her even more similar to Stella.

As stupid as it may be, but Kai would hold on to everything and everyone that'll keep reminding him of someone that he considers his only love.

The hours went by quickly until it was time for lunch. Liana looked at her wrist watch before turning her eyes to Kai who's now signing some papers.

"Uhm, can I have lunch now?" Liana asked.

"Yeah, sure," Kai gave her a single nod. Liana nodded and took her bag with her as she walked outside.

Kai annoyingly sighed. He would've said to Liana to eat lunch with him in the office but the woman is gone now.

Kai left a text. There's no response after a few minutes. In the end, Kai just let her. There's no way he'll make the effort of finding her.

Liana walked to the ground floor with consciousness she's feeling. Some are staring at her while gossiping to each other.

"Is Raven right?" Liana whispered to herself. She remembered Raven saying yesterday to shrug off the possible gossip because they're jealous that someone new got the position they want for so long now.

Liana sighed and thought that maybe Raven is right. Instead of eating in the cafeteria to make friends at least, she had decided to go out.

An hour had passed and Liana went back. She gently pushed the door and closed it the same way as she opened it. She glanced at Kai and almost gasped seeing the man without his black coat now. Kai is quietly reading something.

"G-good afternoon. I'll finish my tasks now..." Liana said as she quickly looked away from Kai.

"Give the report to Raven after," Kai replied. He raised his head up from a folder he's holding to see Liana. He couldn't help but to notice Liana's breast peeking out from her blouse. Kai licked his lower lip and tried to remember how it tasted, but was startled by a phone call.

Kai muttered a curse before answering the business partner who called.

As Kai talks through the phone, Liana couldn't stop herself from secretly glancing at him. She didn't know the serious CEO Kai Ellis would sound hot. He's undeniably gorgeous from the distance and it made it hard not to stare.

Liana only realized what she's doing when Kai met her eyes. She looked away and disagreed to herself that she's attracted to the god looking CEO. She just focused herself on the things she needed to do to be distracted.

Liana stood up, Kai quickly noticed it as if his attention was on Liana, only hiding face in his laptop.

"You said I'll give this to Raven once done. Won't you check it first?" Liana asked, raising a folder in her left hand.

Kai shook his head. "Raven's on the 43th floor,"

Liana nodded and proceeded to the said floor. As expected, Raven was there. He's only in her baggy shirt and pants, not looking like she has one of the executives in the company.

"Good afternoon. Kai wants to send this to you,"

Raven who's almost laying on her swivel chuckled. "You're not calling him boss or sir?"

Liana bit her lower lip. "Sir Ellis, I mean,"

Raven fixed his position as he was laughing. "Done with work? Stay here for a second, eat with me,"

Liana smiled as she gave the folder to Raven. Raven didn't bother to scan it and just tossed it on his table. Bunch of fast food was served on Raven's table. It was a lot that it could feed a whole huge family.

"Can you finish all of that?" Liana asked. Raven's offer is nice. She could unwind in Raven's office instead of staying in Kai's. She has no pending work anymore, afterall.

Raven gave her a headshake. "That's why I'm inviting you,"

Liana nodded with a bigger smile as she took a seat in front of Raven's table. Raven began talking and asking Liana different casual questions as they ate.

As they were enjoying their break time, Liana's phone suddenly beeped on the table. Liana reached for a tissue and wiped her hands quickly before touching the phone.

Sir Ellis: Where are you?

Sir Ellis: It won't take you ten minutes to give a document to Raven. You're gone for thirty minutes now.

Liana had her brows furrowed as she read the texts. She couldn't figure out if Kai is mad already.

Liana stood up, getting Raven's attention. Liana smiled. "I need to go back now. Kai's looking for me already,"

"He's just possessive," Raven shrugged. "Bring some. I don't know what to do with these anymore," Raven stood and reached for the food's paper bag. Liana scratched her head watching Raven put almost everything that's left.

"Wow, thank you," Liana giggled. She also doesn't know what to do because they're too much.

As Liana was on the elevator, she couldn't help but to feel nervous. Kai must be mad. She should've just asked for permission.

Liana carefully pushed the brown door and slid inside the office. She bit her lower lip. Kai was on the sofa, arms crossed.

"Where were you?"

"From Raven... We just had a little break,"

Kai's eyes dropped on Liana's paper bag. He recognized the label as the one Raven always eats at.

"Why do people like Raven more?" Kai whispered to himself as he stood up. Liana's eyes followed Kai as the latter walked to the table. She bit her lip. She's unsure. She's trying to see if Kai is mad, but the man didn't say anything except for something he whispered that she didn't understand.

"Sir Ellis--"

"I need to go now," Kai cut Liana off. See you tomorrow," He added before he went out.

Liana tilted her head in confusion. "Is he mad?"

From his car window, Kai watched Liana stand outside the building for minutes now. Kai's been thinking about how he acted with Liana awhile ago.

"I'm not jealous," Kai said to himself after the annoyance kicked in again. He just didn't like it that there's someone again who likes Raven more than him.

Kai breathed deeply. He turned on his car engine and drove until he's in front of Liana.

Liana furrowed her brows as she eyed the heavily tinted car. Kai pulled his window down until he met Liana's eyes.

"Slide in," Kai cocked his head to Liana.

"Huh?" Liana tilted her head in confusion.

"I said slide in. I'll take you home,"

Liana pressed her lips together, thinking if she'll come with Kai or not. She doesn't want to interact with Kai if it's not work, making no dominate.

"No, thank you--"

"I don't accept a no as an answer. It's either you'll slide in or I'll carry you inside,"

Liana closed her fist. There's Kai's shitty attitude again. He thinks he's always the boss, and that everything he wants should happen. The more Kai shows attitude, the more Liana hates him.

Liana walked to the passenger seat and got in. She closed a little too strong that it made a slamming sound. Kai smirked. The bratty attitude reminds him of Stella.

Liana unintentionally smelled the car's scent. It smells like Kai.

Liana gasped when Kai suddenly leaned in. Their faces are just centimeters close to each other that started Liana's heart to get violent.

Liana felt Kai's hands move. She looked down and--

"Seatbelt," Kai whispered, not looking away from Liana's wide eyes. It was followed by the sound of the buckling seat belt.

"You could've just told me," Liana mumbled. She gently pushed Kai away.

Kai chuckled as he fixed his position. He finds it amusing how Liana tries to stay cool when she's obviously shy.

"Type your address," Kai handed his phone to Liana. Liana wordlessly did what was told and stayed quiet all throughout.

Liana doesn't feel totally uncomfortable. It's not like they haven't been in that car together, and didn't do anything more than sitting beside each other. She just wanted to jump out of the car instead of being in the same space as Kai. She doesn't want to spend the half an hour of drive convincing herself that Kai is not attractive.

Because deep inside she knows that Kai is, and she just doesn't want to admit it.

"Thanks for the ride," Liana mumbled as she was unbuckling the seatbelt.

Kai was only quietly staring at her lips. He's tempted to taste those pink lips again, close his eyes and imagine it's Stella he's kissing. "God, I miss your lips,"

Liana's eyes widened. She was totally caught off guard. Even Kai was surpsired. It should've stayed on his mind only, and not speak it out with Liana around.

Liana felt her heart beating fast as she went out of the car. She didn't even wait for Kai to leave before she entered her house. She threw herself on the near couch and sighed heavily.

"You should stop all of those before I even fall in your trap," Liana murmured to herself.
