Aria’s POV:

“Trust me, you will enjoy the night. It’s just a celebratory party for our friend Salmon,” Julian added.

Oh, they were throwing a party because he won the case, but what will I be doing there? I don’t even know anyone.

He wrote the address, his contact number, and his account number before handing the paper to me. “If you choose to show up, then here is the address; call me once you are there.”

“But if not, then just wire the money to my account.” He stood up, straightened his suit, and joined Liam to go out of the court. Before Liam left, he stared at me with furrowed brows.

“Aria,” I heard Caleb call. Everyone was exiting the hall, and he must have spotted me on his way out.

I stood up and noticed Liam was still staring at me. I walked to Caleb, who looked exhausted. “Why are you here, Aria?” he asked.

“To watch a case,” I answered, and his gaze was focused on someone behind me. I turned to find Liam still standing there, having a conversation with Julian.

“Did you come because of him?”

“You still haven’t told me why you had his shirt. Why did he show up at your parents’ place?” Caleb questioned in a low tone, and I appreciated the fact that he wasn’t trying to create a scene, but I owed him no explanation.

“Have a good day, Caleb.” I turned to walk away; he grabbed my arm and pulled me back to him. I scanned around and realized everyone was minding their business.

“What do you think you are doing?” I asked with raised brows; he had an apologetic look before letting me go.

“We just divorced yesterday, and it won’t make sense that you are trying to move on so fast; at least give us a try first.”

A try? I thought he understood clearly that I was done with him; there was no more us.

“Aria,” I heard someone call and turned to find Julian now standing beside us. “See you tonight,” he said with a grin before he winked at Caleb and left.

“Come with me.” Caleb grabbed my hand as I followed him out of the hall; we got to a quiet place, and I pulled my hand from him.

“Don’t ever drag me out like that,” I scolded, and he cupped my cheeks with his hands.

“I understand you are trying to hurt me, but don’t get close to Liam Styles and his friends.”

“You must think so highly of yourself, and I get close to whoever I want.”

Then I took a step back, and Caleb smacked his lips. “Do you really want to be friends with criminals?”

“He is a lawyer just like you, so why call him a criminal?” I raised an anxious brow, and his brow furrowed.

“Are you pretending to be foolish right now, Aria? No seriously, do you need a third party to let you know he and his friends are criminals?”

I folded my arm below my bossom and looked anywhere else but at him. I don’t care if they were criminals or not… They weren’t my friends and definitely not my business.

“That man just released a murderer into society.”

“Not my business,” I shrugged my shoulder, still not looking at him.

“Be careful, Aria; Liam is not all gentle as he looks. He is a lawyer who creates another believable story that matches every available piece of evidence and presents it to the court; he is a manipulative man.”

I bit my lower lip and finally moved my gaze to Caleb. “That just proves he is creative; maybe he should become a writer as well. Anyways, I have better things to do.”

I walked past him, wore my shades and hat, and quickly found my way to my car.

My steps halted when I noticed Liam leaning on his car, which was just next to mine. Why wasn’t he leaving?

I fished out my car keys and walked to my car, pulling the car door to get in when Liam pushed the door, causing it to close.

“Why did you make a bet with Julian?” he asked, and this man was really unpredictable; out of all the conversations I expected us to have at this moment, this was what he found fit to say.

“Because I wanted to.”

“Don’t worry about it; I will settle it. Don’t show up at the address he sent to you,” he said in an authoritative tone, not even allowing room for arguments as he turned his back to get to his car.

“Why will you settle for me? I made the bet and not you,” I stated. He turned to face me.

“I said I would settle it; don’t show up.”

“I don’t take orders from you,” I said with a stern look. He kissed his teeth and leaned on his car.

“Listen to me, Burgundy…”

“Don’t call me that,” I warned with clenched fists; it sounded like an insult to me… especially when he behaves like he doesn’t remember that night.

A smile crept onto his lips, and he dipped his hand in his pocket and retracted his phone. “Give me your number.”

I scoffed at his words. I should give him my number? He must be dreaming, “I won’t.”

“Give me your number.”

“I won’t,” I repeated while standing my ground.

“So you won’t give me your number?”

“No, I won’t.”

“Say that one more time.” He had a threatening look, but it had nothing on me. I said I wasn’t giving him my number, so I won’t.

“I am not giving you my number,” I said without stuttering. He chuckled and kept his phone.

“Aren’t you scared I might just give you a fake one? I mean, I am just a fake girl.”

Liam laughed and walked to me as I leaned back, then he pulled my car door open.

“Don’t show up for the party,” he added.

“I will,” I scolded and got in before he closed the door. At first I wasn’t going to show up, but now I was definitely showing up.

Who does he think he is, ordering me around

Aria’s POV:It was extremely hard trying to lie to yourself, but it was even harder to make a stranger feel you can’t do without him.Right now, Liam was just another stranger in my life… someone I meet during one of my tough times, and we don’t bond, we don’t argue… We just go our separate ways.“I have no idea what you are talking about.” I cleared my throat and tried to switch the topic. “You said I was fake, so why read my book?”Liam picked up the book. “This is the only one I find interesting,” he stated, and it made no sense; I wrote that book years ago when I thought it was fun.I had no plans of publishing; all I wanted was to write a story and to appreciate the hero who showed up in my life during my darkest moments. It didn’t make much sense. “Okay. It seems you have no interest in paying up, so I will leave.”He nodded, his gaze on the book. He was back to his reading while I was still present; this was my cue to leave.I stood up and spotted his box of unpacked stuff. “Do

  • The illusion Of Happily Ever After   You Owe Me

Aria’s POV:Liam stood there, dressed in casuals and also had glasses on… It made him look smart and soft; his hair was rough, and he looked so tired. His lips curled to a smile before he leaned against the doorway. “Burgundy,” he muttered in an amused tone.I cleared my throat; I didn’t come here to bond with him or entertain him.“You owe me.” I didn’t expect this to be the first word to leave my mouth, but it was a great start. I didn’t want him to have the wrong impression that I had come here for another reason.Liam chuckled and took off his reading glasses. “Come in.”“No, once I have my money, then I will be on my way,” I explained. There was no need for me to go in; we had no relationship… We weren’t even friends.“Come on in, Burgundy.”I breathed heavily before walking in; he closed the door behind me and returned to the couch… There was an open book on the table. And I couldn’t believe it; it was my book.It was the first book I ever published, “My Hero in the Dark.”A smi

  • The illusion Of Happily Ever After   It's Cancelled

Aria’s POV:I leaned closer to Sam and watched the video she was watching; it was just one of Liam walking out of court… He didn’t even say anything to the press.“Liar,” I scoffed. For a moment I thought he was really coming back to America.“I am not, okay? He didn’t say it directly to the press, but he posted it.”I rolled my eyes. “He doesn’t have an account.”I had searched everywhere but couldn’t find his account, so I figured he must not be a fan of the internet.“He has.” Sam scrolled on her phone before shoving it in my face.It was a Twitter account; the profile photo was Liam’s, but the name was not anything related to Liam Styles. It was Mr. Consegnare. In his latest post, he tweeted, “Going home for a break, no more cases.”He was coming back. Our path could cross again.Wait.“Umm…What if he meant home as in his home in Italy?” I questioned, and Sam laughed.“Why are you so interested in this man?” Ava asked in disbelief, and I pouted. Was it wrong to ask a question?“Do

  • The illusion Of Happily Ever After   He Won In Style

Aria’s POV:Mother walked and sat next to me before she rubbed my back. “You know how upset your father gets at times, so stop crying, okay?”I nodded and cleaned my tears.Caleb stood up and scanned the sitting room; I noticed his eyes grow sore, but I didn’t want to be affected by it, so I looked away.“Umm…I will leave now,” he said. Neither Mother nor Gigi answered as he found his way out of the house, and I pulled my hair and stomped my foot on the ground.“I don’t want to move in, Mother.” Why was Father asking me to move in? I didn’t want to live with no freedom anymore, a life where he controls when I go out and when I come in.I didn’t want that.“What’s so wrong with moving in? You got divorced, and instead of coming back home, you chose to stay there alone,” Mother scolded with a frown. “If you think your family isn’t important and you don’t need us, then feel free to leave. It’s not like we could hold you back,” she scoffed and left. Now I had pissed off even Mother. My fa

  • The illusion Of Happily Ever After   I Am Proud Of Her

Aria’s POV:I nudged at Mother, who shook her head and signaled I eat quietly. “Just come in and eat already,” I said with a loud tone, and Caleb nodded. He walked in and bowed slightly. “Good day, Father, Mother…Gigi,” he greeted, but Gigi scoffed loudly.Caleb pulled the chair next to me, and Mother pushed a plate towards him; she didn’t want to talk to him, but after all, she was a mother. We ate silently till we were done. I helped Mother clean the table, and now we were in the kitchen with Gigi, and I was drying the dishes.“I don’t understand why your father invited him over,” Mother said with an irritated tone as she passed the plate for me to dry.“This time around he really crossed a line.” She smacked her lips, and Gigi sighed.“Divorce isn’t a joke; the kids had gone too far,” Gigi muttered while staring at me, and I pouted. I didn’t go far. That was the best solution to this relationship.“Aria,” Father called, and I almost dropped what I was holding.I turned to Mother, w

Aria’s POV:One…two…threeIt was three days since I went my separate way with Liam; he dropped me at my place and drove off, and I am sure he must be in Italy right now.I was getting dressed to have dinner with my parents; Father was back and wanted to see me. I knew I had a long night, as it won’t be easy trying to explain things to Father. After staring at my reflection in the mirror, I brushed my hand through my hair… He said it was pretty, but maybe he is just a liar.I pulled my drawer and took out the scissors, gathered my hair in my hand, and was about to cut it, but it was hard.My hands trembled as the scissors fell off.RingMy ringing phone brought me out of my trance. I checked the caller, and it was Caleb.“What?” I scolded once the call got connected.“Umm…sorry,” he apologized, and I sighed heavily; I was just in a bad mood.“Why are you calling Caleb?”“Father called me; he asked I pick you up on my way.”My brows furrowed. Which father? Did his parents finally return
