Aria’s POV:

The lady left and Liam walked away with some men who approached him, I wore my shade and cap before descending from my car.

Found my way past the paparazzi and headed to the courtroom; it was a little crowded, but luckily I found a seat beside a man dressed in a brown suit. He kept trying to peek past my disguise, and it was really irritating.

“Aria?” he muttered. I cleared my throat and took off my sunglasses.

“Who are you?” I asked with raised brow.

“Julian, a friend of Liam.” He extended his hand to me, and I saw no reason to accept it because, just like him, Liam was a stranger to me as well.

But just to be polite, I accepted his handshake. “Hello.”

The case finally began; the accused Salmon was brought to court, and he had a smile once he spotted Liam.

Then my gaze diverted to Caleb, who was busy going through some files.

“Who do you want to win?” Julian questioned, and I shrugged my shoulder; I really just wanted to see Liam in action.

“How about we make a bet?” Julian had a smile when he said that.

“What sort of bet?”

“Choose your side,” he urged. I bit my lower lip and reminisced about the videos found online of Salmon shooting the minister’s son; that video was enough to send him to jail.

“I think Caleb Thompson will win the case.”

“Confident much?” He laughed and retracted a small sticky note from his pocket, wrote down some numbers, and handed it to me.

“100,000 if Caleb does win, and you get to pay me the same amount if Liam wins.”

I gasped in disbelief. Was he trying to scam me right now, or what?

“I’m not paying such an amount.”

“Fine, take out one zero. Let’s make it 10,000. You in?”

I thought for a while and nodded. “I am in.”

We were past the boring parts of the case when Liam invited a video expert to the stand. After he swore, Liam began asking questions.

“Do you think the video was tampered with?” he asked the expert.

“No”

“This was caught by a CCTV camera , so it’s not really clear, but the sound was great, right?” he asked, and the man agreed.

“If we listen carefully, we could hear a car drive in and footsteps.”

“Objection, he is speaking under speculation.” Caleb stood up.

“Overruled,” the judge replied.

“It means he can answer the question.” Julian leaned and explained, and this caused me to scoff.

“I know what it means,” I muttered and returned my attention to the case.

“And according to the camera at the entrance, my client arrived in the parking lot with a bike, and there was just one entrance there. A few seconds after the gunshot was heard, a car quickly drove out of the parking lot, which means there were other people present,” Liam explained to the judge before Caleb stood up.

“It’s a public parking space, so it’s normal for other cars to be there,” Caleb stated.

Liam nodded and asked the expert to leave; he now invited a doctor.

“You were in charge of treating Aldo before he took his last breath, right?”

“That is correct.”

“So, can you watch this video, please?” Liam asked, and after he got the court approval, he showed the video to the doctor, who kept watching it.

“You see, the man’s position, and at that angle, he could send a bullet to what part of the body?”

The doctor took a proper look at the video “The chest and shoulder, maybe.”

“But Aldo was shot in the stomach, right?” Liam questioned, and Caleb stood up again.

“Objection, he is trying to mislead the court.”

“What are you trying to prove?” the judge asked.

Liam stood before the judge. “There was someone else present at the parking lot; according to the camera, a car drove into the lot at 12:13, but no one left the car, and after Aldo was shot at 2:02, the car drove out.”

“Your client had a gun pointed at my client.” Caleb retorted.

“Of course, and that’s an offense, but your client owed my client a huge amount of money, and all he wanted was his money.”

“Exactly, so he killed my client out of anger,” Caleb stated, and Liam chuckled.

“If he kills your client, then who will refund his money? His intention was just to threaten him; the people in that car shot Aldo Walters, and my client just happened to be pointing a gun at him at that same time.”

The case went on and on, with them providing evidence and also new witnesses.

After we had a ten-minute break and returned to court, it was time for the judge to announce his verdict.

My gaze moved to Julian, who also had a nervous look.

“The court has received and reviewed all the evidence presented and has decided that the accused, Salmon Lalory, is found innocent of the murder of Aldo Walters.”

The court burst out in a roar and quickly quieted down when the judge hit the hammer.

Julian turned to me with a smile. “You can scan my card.”

He shamelessly shoved his phone at me, and I can’t believe I lost such an amount. It was so obvious that Caleb was going to win the case; no one expected Liam to put the blame on a car that drove out of the lot.

My gaze moved to Liam, who was organizing his documents; to Caleb, who had loosened his tie frustratedly; and to Salmon, who had a wide smile on his face. Why didn’t I just bet on Liam?

“Or you could pay in another way.” Julian whispered; he had a large smirk on his face, and I knew it wasn’t going to be a good way.

I cleared my throat. “What way is that?”

“I will give you an address; show up at 7pm.”

I clenched my fist and glared at him. “Chill, it’s not what you’re thinking about.” He laughed, and I finally sighed in relief. Then why was he inviting me over at such an hour?

Aria’s POV:It was extremely hard trying to lie to yourself, but it was even harder to make a stranger feel you can’t do without him.Right now, Liam was just another stranger in my life… someone I meet during one of my tough times, and we don’t bond, we don’t argue… We just go our separate ways.“I have no idea what you are talking about.” I cleared my throat and tried to switch the topic. “You said I was fake, so why read my book?”Liam picked up the book. “This is the only one I find interesting,” he stated, and it made no sense; I wrote that book years ago when I thought it was fun.I had no plans of publishing; all I wanted was to write a story and to appreciate the hero who showed up in my life during my darkest moments. It didn’t make much sense. “Okay. It seems you have no interest in paying up, so I will leave.”He nodded, his gaze on the book. He was back to his reading while I was still present; this was my cue to leave.I stood up and spotted his box of unpacked stuff. “Do

  • The illusion Of Happily Ever After   You Owe Me

Aria’s POV:Liam stood there, dressed in casuals and also had glasses on… It made him look smart and soft; his hair was rough, and he looked so tired. His lips curled to a smile before he leaned against the doorway. “Burgundy,” he muttered in an amused tone.I cleared my throat; I didn’t come here to bond with him or entertain him.“You owe me.” I didn’t expect this to be the first word to leave my mouth, but it was a great start. I didn’t want him to have the wrong impression that I had come here for another reason.Liam chuckled and took off his reading glasses. “Come in.”“No, once I have my money, then I will be on my way,” I explained. There was no need for me to go in; we had no relationship… We weren’t even friends.“Come on in, Burgundy.”I breathed heavily before walking in; he closed the door behind me and returned to the couch… There was an open book on the table. And I couldn’t believe it; it was my book.It was the first book I ever published, “My Hero in the Dark.”A smi

  • The illusion Of Happily Ever After   It's Cancelled

Aria’s POV:I leaned closer to Sam and watched the video she was watching; it was just one of Liam walking out of court… He didn’t even say anything to the press.“Liar,” I scoffed. For a moment I thought he was really coming back to America.“I am not, okay? He didn’t say it directly to the press, but he posted it.”I rolled my eyes. “He doesn’t have an account.”I had searched everywhere but couldn’t find his account, so I figured he must not be a fan of the internet.“He has.” Sam scrolled on her phone before shoving it in my face.It was a Twitter account; the profile photo was Liam’s, but the name was not anything related to Liam Styles. It was Mr. Consegnare. In his latest post, he tweeted, “Going home for a break, no more cases.”He was coming back. Our path could cross again.Wait.“Umm…What if he meant home as in his home in Italy?” I questioned, and Sam laughed.“Why are you so interested in this man?” Ava asked in disbelief, and I pouted. Was it wrong to ask a question?“Do

  • The illusion Of Happily Ever After   He Won In Style

Aria’s POV:Mother walked and sat next to me before she rubbed my back. “You know how upset your father gets at times, so stop crying, okay?”I nodded and cleaned my tears.Caleb stood up and scanned the sitting room; I noticed his eyes grow sore, but I didn’t want to be affected by it, so I looked away.“Umm…I will leave now,” he said. Neither Mother nor Gigi answered as he found his way out of the house, and I pulled my hair and stomped my foot on the ground.“I don’t want to move in, Mother.” Why was Father asking me to move in? I didn’t want to live with no freedom anymore, a life where he controls when I go out and when I come in.I didn’t want that.“What’s so wrong with moving in? You got divorced, and instead of coming back home, you chose to stay there alone,” Mother scolded with a frown. “If you think your family isn’t important and you don’t need us, then feel free to leave. It’s not like we could hold you back,” she scoffed and left. Now I had pissed off even Mother. My fa

Aria’s POV:I nudged at Mother, who shook her head and signaled I eat quietly. “Just come in and eat already,” I said with a loud tone, and Caleb nodded. He walked in and bowed slightly. “Good day, Father, Mother…Gigi,” he greeted, but Gigi scoffed loudly.Caleb pulled the chair next to me, and Mother pushed a plate towards him; she didn’t want to talk to him, but after all, she was a mother. We ate silently till we were done. I helped Mother clean the table, and now we were in the kitchen with Gigi, and I was drying the dishes.“I don’t understand why your father invited him over,” Mother said with an irritated tone as she passed the plate for me to dry.“This time around he really crossed a line.” She smacked her lips, and Gigi sighed.“Divorce isn’t a joke; the kids had gone too far,” Gigi muttered while staring at me, and I pouted. I didn’t go far. That was the best solution to this relationship.“Aria,” Father called, and I almost dropped what I was holding.I turned to Mother, w

Aria’s POV:One…two…threeIt was three days since I went my separate way with Liam; he dropped me at my place and drove off, and I am sure he must be in Italy right now.I was getting dressed to have dinner with my parents; Father was back and wanted to see me. I knew I had a long night, as it won’t be easy trying to explain things to Father. After staring at my reflection in the mirror, I brushed my hand through my hair… He said it was pretty, but maybe he is just a liar.I pulled my drawer and took out the scissors, gathered my hair in my hand, and was about to cut it, but it was hard.My hands trembled as the scissors fell off.RingMy ringing phone brought me out of my trance. I checked the caller, and it was Caleb.“What?” I scolded once the call got connected.“Umm…sorry,” he apologized, and I sighed heavily; I was just in a bad mood.“Why are you calling Caleb?”“Father called me; he asked I pick you up on my way.”My brows furrowed. Which father? Did his parents finally return
