Lena's POV:

My heart couldn't stop beating fast, I almost couldn’t breathe anymore. I sat there, worried and scared.

“What if this turns out to be that I'm not pregnant? What if I'm wrong about this?” I thought, biting my nails anxiously..

“Oh Lena, knock it off!” I said within me and sat straight.

I had been married for 6 years now, but I had not been able to conceive.

I had gone to different hospitals with my husband for a check-up, but the doctors kept saying the same thing, “Nothing was wrong with the both of you. Your reproductive systems are okay.”

Then what was wrong?

My husband, who was supposed to stand by me, was now the one calling me all manner of names the most. Whenever his mother maltreated me, he never said anything.

He would watch her rain abuse on me and say nothing to her.

He brought into our home a different set of women and slept with them on our matrimonial bed.

There was nothing I could do but keep enduring the pain and the suffering, because I never wanted to leave my husband’s house.

The door to the doctor’s office creaked open. I quickly stood up as he walked down to me.

The doctor stretched out his right hand toward me, a brown envelope in his grasp.

“Here’s the result, Mrs. Lena,” he said with a smile.

I hesitated before taking the envelope from him. I took a deep breath and took the envelope from him.

“Thank you, Doctor,” I said.

He nodded with a smile as he spun around and walked away.

I sat back on the seat and squeezed the envelope.

The sounds of machines beeping, voices running through my head, and children crying hit the air.

My hands were trembling. I kept staring at the envelope, sweat streaming down my face.

I closed my eyes, then opened them, and slowly tore the envelope and slid my hand into it.

I gently pulled the white paper out of the envelope and quietly stared at it. I froze when I started reading it.

I jumped out of my seat and released a loud scream, with tears rolling down my cheek. Everybody’s gaze rested on me. When I noticed, I quickly covered my mouth and ran out of the hospital, looking happy, teary, and excited.

I burst out of the hospital and shouted, with my hand still on my mouth, “Holy Molly! I’m pregnant! I’m pregnant! After many years of barrenness and being mocked and insulted by my husband and his family, I am finally pregnant!”

I cried till I couldn’t cry anymore. I can now stand with my head up. Nobody will ever insult me again. Nobody will call me a barren woman again. I will be treated right by my husband and his family.

I wiped my tears and stood up like a queen with a wide smile on my face.

I walked down to where I parked my car, hopped in, and zoomed off.

I drove in and parked my car in the parking garage.

I happily got down from the car and walked fast toward the door.

“Good afternoon, ma’am,” the maid greeted with a slight bow.

“Hey, Maria. Afternoon, how are you doing?”

“I’m fine, ma’am,” she responded.

“That’s good,” I said as I walked to the door and held the handle.

I took a deep breath and released it, then I twisted the door handle and found my way in.

“B…” My voice died down. I couldn’t complete the word because of the horrifying scenario before me.

“Oh, right on time. The barren witch is back,” my mother-in-law said, smiling mischievously.

I didn’t look at her, nor did I respond to her. My attention was on my husband, the lady he was carrying on his lap, and my luggage that was lying on the floor in the sitting room.

“Fucking bitch! I’m talking to you,” she said beneath her breath as she lunged toward me, a slap landing on my face.

I fell to the ground with my hand on my face, tears streaming down my eyes.

I was still holding onto that envelope as tightly as I could as she dragged me to where my luggage was and flung me.

“Babe… What is going on? And who is this, and why are my boxes here?” I asked while trying to fight the tears that were threatening to fall. My heart was aching so badly that I almost felt like pulling it out of my chest.

“Sweetheart, can you sit here for a few minutes? I’ll be right back,” Aiden said to the lady sitting on his lap.

She majestically stood up and shifted to the other end of the couch. She sat down and crossed her legs, with a stern smile on her face.

Aiden adjusted his shirt, stood up, and came close to me with his hands tucked into his pockets.

“Lena, first, I’m not your babe. Secondly, that woman you see right there,” he pointed to her, “is Vanessa. She is my fiancée, and she is also pregnant.” He pointed out, his voice cold, sharp, and thick. His expression was unreadable.

I saw and felt my world crashing down on me. I was trembling, crying, and trying to think straight. I didn’t know what to do; the words were refusing to come out of my mouth.

“And I’m done with you. I want you out of my house.”

“Yes, get out, you wench,” his mother added.

My eyes, my chest, my body were burning. It was like I was about to explode right there and that minute.

Vanessa stood, with her blue eyes glaring at me. She drew closer to me and bent down.

She held my jaw very tight and lifted it up.

“Sweetie, you gotta stop crying and wasting your tears. It ain’t gonna do nothing.

“You gotta go. This is my home. I am carrying Aiden’s child, which you couldn’t do for years now. Get your shit together and get the hell out of here. If not, I’m gonna ruin you more than the way you are right now.” She forcefully released my jaw and pushed me to the ground.

I could see why Aiden chose her over me.

She looked beautiful, well-dressed, in nice shape, and her long hair cascading on her back.

And there I was, looking homeless while married to a millionaire.

“Baby… baby, don’t do this to me. Don’t throw me away like this,” I pleaded, crying and crawling toward Aiden.

He quickly moved back before I could touch his legs.

“You filthy-looking thing, don’t you dare touch me. Can you buy this shoe for me? Can you buy this trouser?” he growled.

“Get up and leave my house. I don’t wanna ever see you around this house again. Find where you are going to stay, you homeless, barren witch.”

My heart shattered after hearing all these from someone I loved so much. I sacrificed so much for him.

I wished the ground could open so that I could enter.

I had nowhere to go. I had no family. I didn’t know where to start from, and there I was, pregnant.

How was I gonna take care of the innocent baby?

I couldn’t tell him about the baby. I didn’t want my child to be raised by a beast like him.

I wanted to die and leave the world.

I felt a strong hand grab my arm and drag me to the door. I looked up, and it was Aiden.

Vanessa and his mom were behind him, dragging and flinging my boxes out of the house.

“Let go of me, you’re hurting me,” I cried. He didn’t flinch or show any concern.

Vanessa and my mother-in-law were laughing and mocking me. I couldn’t bear the pain anymore. I just had to make up my mind and leave for the sake of my peace, mental health, and my unborn child.

I picked up the envelope, stood up, and wiped my tears. I looked deep into Aiden’s eyes. The look on his face was not of pity, but of disgust.

“I will leave, but remember this day, because you will regret it. But by then, it will be too late,” I said to him, packing up my things. He smiled with a stern smirk on his face.

I spun around and left the house.

It was raining and getting dark already. I had nowhere to go. I just kept walking sluggishly in the rain and dragging my boxes behind me.

I didn’t know where I was going. I was just moving forward quietly with my head down, warm tears rolling down my cheeks.

“He will regret this. They all will,” I finally said, anger and hatred waking up within me.

Abel's POVThe package arrived at ten AM, overnight delivery from Tokyo.I signed for it myself, carried it upstairs to where Lena was working in the study, Ethan asleep in his carrier beside her desk."What's that?" she asked without looking up from her laptop."Nothing.""Abel."I set the box on the side table. "Just something I ordered."She glanced over, saw the Japanese characters on the shipping label, frowned. "Why are you getting packages from Tokyo?""Work stuff.""Work stuff doesn't get delivered to the house."Ethan stirred, making small sounds. I picked him up before he could fully wake, settling him against my shoulder."You ordered something for him," Lena said, realization dawning. "Didn't you?""Maybe.""Abel, we talked about this. He doesn't need—""A high-end camera system for the nursery? You're right. Completely unnecessary." I walked Ethan around the room, patting his back gently. "Which is why I got him a developmental play mat instead.""A what?""Japanese desi

Lena's POVEthan smiled at me for the first time at six weeks old.Not gas. Not a reflex. An actual smile, eyes crinkling, mouth curving, his whole face transforming.I froze mid-sentence, phone pressed to my ear while Sarah ran through the week's schedule."—and the board meeting is Thursday at two, but I can move it if, Lena? Are you there?""He smiled," I said."What?""Ethan. He just smiled. A real smile.""Oh! That's wonderful! Should I—""Hold on." I set the phone down, leaning over Ethan where he lay on his play mat. "Do it again. Come on, baby."I made faces, talked in that ridiculous high-pitched voice I'd developed without realizing it. He stared at me, serious. Then, there. Another smile. Bigger this time."Yes!" I picked him up, kissing his forehead. "You're so smart. So perfect."I grabbed my phone. "Sarah, I need to call you back.""Of course. Congratulations!"I hung up and immediately called Damien."What's wrong?" he answered, voice sharp."Nothing's wrong. Ethan smi

Henry's POVEthan fell asleep in my arms during the third verse of "Blackbird."I kept singing anyway, voice low, watching his face relax completely. Two weeks old and already he had preferences, this song over others, being held upright instead of cradled, the specific rhythm of walking that calmed him when nothing else would."You're spoiling him," Lena said from the nursery doorway."He's two weeks old. That's not possible yet.""Give it time."I stood carefully, transferring Ethan to his crib without waking him. A minor miracle.Lena moved into the room, checking on him with that automatic vigilance she'd developed."You should sleep while he's down," I said."I will. Just need to finish reviewing the quarterly reports first.""Lena—""Twenty minutes. Then I'll sleep."She left before I could argue.I stayed in the nursery, watching Ethan's chest rise and fall. This tiny person who'd completely reorganized all our lives in a matter of days.My nephew. The word still felt strange.

Lena's POVEthan's cry cut through my half-asleep haze at two AM. I rolled out of bed, already moving before I was fully conscious. He was hungry. Again. Always hungry.I lifted him from the bassinet, settled into the chair by the window, and let him feed while I stared out at the dark estate grounds.A week of this. Seven days of broken sleep, constant feeding, learning his different cries, hungry versus tired versus just wanting to be held.I was getting better at it. Faster. More confident. My phone lit up on the side table. An email notification from Sarah, marked urgent.I ignored it.Ethan finished, eyes already closing. I held him against my shoulder, feeling his warm weight, his tiny heartbeat against my chest. This was still surreal. A week ago I'd been in labor. Now I had a whole person depending on me for everything.I put him back in the bassinet, watched him settle, then crawled back into bed.The email could wait.Morning came too soon. • The lost Morrison Heiress   Chapter 43

Lena's POVI woke to voices in the nursery, low, careful, but definitely there.I checked the monitor. Seven AM. Ethan had slept for four straight hours, the longest stretch since we'd come home.I should have felt rested. Instead, panic hit immediately. Why hadn't he woken up? Was something wrong?I threw off the covers and hurried to the nursery.Abel sat in the rocking chair, Ethan cradled in his arms, talking quietly."—and that's basic calculus. We'll get to differential equations when you're older. Maybe three, four years old.""Abel," I said from the doorway. He looked up, completely unrepentant. "He was awake. I didn't want him to wake you.""You're teaching him calculus?""Discussing calculus. There's a difference." He stood, bringing Ethan over. "He seems very interested."Ethan was staring up at Abel with wide eyes, making small cooing sounds."He's three days old.""Never too early to start." Abel transferred Ethan to my arms. "He needs changing, by the way. And probably f
