“Are you alright?”
Ann stared at the hazy figure standing before her, trying to make sense of what was happening. “Who are you?”
“Thank you for saving me, I'll find you. I promise,” the voice told her softly and everything went blank.
Ann's eyes snapped open as she jolted out of her sleep, a sharp pain coming from her back going straight to her brain. She groaned, turning over so she was now resting on her stomach, burrowing further into her bed.
Her back ached. It must be acting up because of the strange dream. It had been a while since she had those dreams and luckily for her Lucas wasn't around to witness it, she thought staring at the space beside her.
“I can't believe I'm married,” she mumbled to herself as she continued to stare hard at the untouched side of her matrimonial bed. Suddenly losing her sleep, Ann pushed up the bed and ran her hand over her husband's side of the bed and wasn't surprised to find it cold. It seemed she had been wrong about him after all_ before she could give it any more thought her stomach grumbled, echoing through the quiet room reminding her of the fact that she had skipped dinner in order to avoid Lucas.
With a sigh, she brushed her hand over her face and rolled off the bed. After she grabbed her phone, she headed out of her new room without a backward glance.
Ann took her time studying Lucas' house and she couldn't deny being impressed with how the place turned out even better than her imagination of the place. At least she would be living a queen’s life even if there was no happy marriage, she thought with a small smile. Her eyes fixed on the silver ring on her finger and without much consideration she yanked it off, stuffing it into her pajamas pocket and headed straight for the kitchen.
“Good morning.”
Ann could hardly respond as she quickly slapped her hand over her mouth to cover her yawn.
The old lady standing before her flashed her an understanding smile, “Are you still feeling tired, Mrs. Montgomery? I could bring the food up to your room if you want.”
Ann flinched at what the woman called her, “I'm fine, thank you,” she settled down on a kitchen stool, “Please call me Ann.”
The woman nodded, “Yes, of course. What would you like to eat?”
Ann shrugged, looking around the large kitchen with curiosity. “Where's Lucas?”
The woman blinked and for a moment Ann thought she looked uncomfortable, “He left.”
Ann nodded, not in the least surprised, “This morning?”
“Yesterday actually. He left not long after you went to bed, apparently, he has something important to handle.”
Ann's mouth parted in shock. That jerk couldn't even wait until their wedding night was over. “I hope he runs into stomach problems,” she murmured childishly with a coy smirk.
The woman looked at her for a second before she began laughing, “You're funny.”
“What's your name?”
“Juliet,” the woman smiled with a polite bow, “I'm the head maid of Mr. Lucas' home and I'm at your service.”
Ann nodded, “Nice you meet you, Juliet. You don't happen to have an idea when Lucas would be back, do you?”
Juliet shook her head giving Ann a look of sympathy that irked her soul.
“Enough about Lucas, I'd like something to eat please.”
“I'm on it,” Juliet said hurriedly and disappeared further into the kitchen.
Ann sat completely still for some seconds, drumming her fingers on the slab. Now that Lucas was away and off her neck, this was her chance to start with her plan. A smile surfaced on her lips and she reached for her phone.
“Good morning,” Ann greeted as soon as the phone reached her ear.
“Miss. Sinclair,” the voice at the other end sounded truly surprised, “I wasn't expecting you to call anytime soon.”
“Things went better than I expected. Is the offer still on? I'd love it very much if I could train under you, Selene.”
“Of course, Miss_,” Selene trailed off, “I mean Mrs. Montgomery, you're married after all.”
Ann rolled her eyes.
“My agency is more than happy to take you under its wing. You can start anytime, welcome to the modeling world.”
Ann squeaked in excitement, her eyes bright with happiness.
…
Ann slumped onto the couch with a tired sigh, dumping the shopping bags beside and immediately began to get rid of her heels.
“Ann, you're back early.”
Ann looked up from her shoes and flashed Juliet a small smile, straightening up. “I finished shopping early and Selene released me early so I could rest.”
Juliet nodded eagerly, her lips stretched over her lips.
Ann raised a questioning brow at her, “What got you in a good mood, Juliet?”
“Mr. Lucas called,” Juliet squeaked.
The smile on Ann's face dissolved, her brows drawn together into a frown. “And what did he say?”
“He's back in the States now and he told me to invite you to his welcome party.”
“There's a party?” Ann scoffed.
Juliet's smile reduced further, “Don't be angry, Ann. I'm sure Lucas will send you a personal invite and if it makes you feel better Lucas did ask of you.”
“Yeah, three weeks too late,” Ann grumbled and pushed to her feet, “Look Juliet I get that you are trying to make me feel better but you should know by now that Lucas is completely not my business.”
“But he's your husband,” Juliet defended with a sad frown.
Ann shrugged, “Yap, by name only nothing important. I hope you didn't tell him about my modeling?”
Juliet nodded immediately, “Although I still don't understand why you don't want to tell him I did just as you told me, Ann.”
“Thank you,” Ann said earnestly. “Please get the driver to bring this up,” she ordered, pointing at the shopping bags, “I will be in my room if you need me.”
The front view of the restaurant was designed to give the building a nice look, the parking lot is just opposite the corner, and the front has brightly coloured flowers planted which gives the building a radiating look from where Lucas sat.The restaurant, although small, was buzzing with hasty workers moving to and fro to attend to customers. The place strangely looked like a success despite his opinion of the place. It had been a long time since Lucas had last been in a place like this, it was usually fancy and expensive restaurants or bars, that was usually where he held his meetings and had his usual fun but when he had suggested his favorite bar to Lilian, she had bluntly turned down his offer and instead suggested this restaurant.Lucas felt it probably had something to do with her skepticism but he was glad she accepted his offer to meet up.He took in his surroundings once again, noting peculiar attributes. He could never have guessed he would ever be in a place like this most
“Well since you can't call I would suggest you settle for a simple text then,” Shane said in a bored tone.Lucas blinked. Then blinked again. “Isn't that too I don't know light?” Lucas quizzed with a deep frown settled between his brows.Shane sat up to study the man seated before him with a funny expression. “What are you implying by saying light?” “A text is going to make it seem like I'm taking this matter lightly,” Lucas tried to explain with a serious expression on his face. “And that is bad because?” Shane asked, almost sounding confused with his friend's absorbed thinking.“She's of great importance to me, Shane even if she doesn't know it yet. I intend to show her that so I think however I approach her I should be able to show that I'm damn serious about her,” Lucas explained, desperate to explain his opinion to his friend. Shane blinked. “You say it like you aren't a married man.”Lucas' jaw clenched at the reminder and he recoiled. Shane sighed, his eyes narrowed down on
“That bitch is crazy,” Lucas snarled with his eyes narrowed into slits as he paced before his best friend. His shoulders were stiff and his fingers clenched, he looked ready to let out some anger steam any moment.“I bet she's hot.” Shane said, as he took in his friend's agitated appearance with a smirk.“No! She is definitely not hot. The right word for her is crazy, she and that crazy cousin of hers,” Lucas gritted out.“Let me get this straight, your beloved wife doesn't bust your ass with her parents and instead just tells her cousin and you're ranting?” Shane quizzed with a questioning look, “It appears that I still don't get you, Lucas.”Lucas stopped pacing and turned so he was now fully facing Shane with a harsh expression on his face. “Could you stop emphasizing on that one good thing?”Shane shook his head. “I simply can't. As much as you're my best friend and I'd love to take your side you have to suck it in and be grateful. Ann could have told her parents, damn she could h
Lucas sat awkwardly still at the dining table, trying his hardest to keep his eye on the plate of food that had been presented before him. He couldn't believe that he almost threw himself into a dilemma but the real shock was the fact that Ann hadn't spilled the beans to her family. Hadn't that been the reason why she had rushed to her family's house to begin with? He couldn't believe he had been wrong and he couldn't believe that he stressed himself so much over nothing. As much as the situation was embarrassing, Lucas was flooded with relief. Now the real question was why his wife hadn't told on him. She was probably plotting something. A shudder ran down his spine at the thought of Ann threatening him with what she had against him. He risked a peep at Ann's parents and flinched with surprise when he found Mr. Sinclair's eyes fixed on him with a certain intensity he couldn't place.“How has Ann been? I hope she hasn't been causing you any trouble?”It was Mrs. Sinclair who spoke u
The moment Ann finally managed to keep her tears in was about the same time Lucas moved to settle on the available seat beside her. She stiffened up a bit but easily snapped out of it, quickly gathering her composure. She held back the urge to glare at Lucas knowing fully well it would prolong matters and get her parents angrier, knowing they would back up Lucas made her feel worst than she already did. “Excuse me,” she mumbled under her breath, shoving her chair back harshly and rising to her feet. She needed breathing space.Without waiting for anyone's reply she grabbed her phone and exited the place hurriedly with a huge frown on her face. She hated Lucas. Was this all a game to him? Why on earth would he bring up the matter, especially in front of her parents? A part of her wanted to be happy that Lucas thought about apologizing but the other rational part of her cursed him for his bullshit timing. Ann stormed into her room, glaring at everything in sight. She couldn't believe
The atmosphere of the Sinclair's family dining room was very tense and morose, except for Isla of course, who was barely able to contain her excitement with a huge smile adorned on her soft features. Ann glanced at her cousin with a deep frown wanting to be irritated at her because it was very obvious who had suggested this breakfast to her father. Isla was dressed in a red gown that clung to her features but not too much to her features. It was like Isla was doing her best not to attract too much attention this time but Ann could never understand what was going on in her cousin's head. It was like she was in her own dimension. “Master Lucas has arrived.”The gatekeeper announced before disappearing into the hallway but only to appear again with Lucas by his side. Ann ignored the squeak of excitement coming from her cousin and focused her attention on Lucas. Her eyes trailed over his frame to take in his suit clad body before moving up to rest on his face. If it wasn't because she
