"And he’s coming back in three days," she says. My heart stops. Taralie never mentioned this to me. Am I to face her again? It won’t work. I had control then because of the tea, but if I face her when Taralie is in full command, I will kill her. That was the whole point of pushing her away from the start—to prevent exactly this. She cannot go against me. "You can't," I say, my voice low and jagged. "You can't face him again, Vincent. You won't survive next time." Please,

You won't survive next time." Please, I scream internally. Understand what I’m saying. They’ve all seen what Noxius can do. Surely they must realize I'm warning her? But they ignore my plea. I realize then that there is only one thing left for me to do.I have to help her... so she can kill me. It’s the only way out for both of us. She asks if anyone will come with her. I want to roar YES, but I have to go to Taralie first. I must find out what she’s planning. "I can’t. I'm.

  • The new worlder   Miles POV 6, it's defiance

A scent on my pillow that wasn't there before. I take a deep breath, filling my lungs with the smell of vanilla and toasted almonds, something sweet, warm. She’s already been here! She’s already slept in my bed. I take another deep breath, and a wave of happiness like nothing I’ve ever experienced washes over me. It’s intoxicating. I hear the muffled sounds of laughter and stones clicking from downstairs. Curiosity gets the better of me, and I crack the door open just an inch to peek through. She’s playing Monty's game with him. They look so cute, both of them. The reason I ended up in this hell, and the reason I stay, are right there in the same room. My brother and my mate. But then, she looks up and catches me watching. The fire in her eyes isn't love; it's defiance. My heart sinks as the reality hits me. I want her, body and soul, but I can see it as clear as day, she doesn't want me. She hates me. Maybe it’s for the be

  • The new worlder   Miles POV 5, Constance

After hours of torture in every way imaginable, I was finally released. I felt disgusting, used, and hollow, just like every time before. I wanted to claw my own skin off just to stop feeling the ghost of her fingers crawling over me. The only thing that gave me comfort, something I never had before, was the mark she left on my forearm. It would fade soon, like everything else, but for now, I would cherish it. It was still bleeding, though, so I had to wrap it in a bandage. I couldn't risk making Monty worry. Usually, I avoid going home after an encounter with Taralie. I can't stand to be looked at. But today, I needed the walls of my own house. When I walked in, it was empty. No questions, no prying eyes. Good. But I couldn't bring myself to go up to my room, being alone with my thoughts right now felt like a death sentence.I sank onto the sofa and pulled a blanket over my head, wanting to hide from the entire world. I sat there, mindlessly fiddling with Monty’s

  • The new worlder   Miles POV 4, Hate this place

I really hate this place. I truly do. A dungeon cell with nothing but cold stones around me. No window, no bed. Nothing. I have spent far too much time here. Hopelessness settled into my bones as I waited for Taralie. I knew she was coming; she would never let her "pet" bite her and get away with it. An hour later, she appeared at the entrance. "You had fun tonight!" she said in that sickeningly sweet, fake voice. "You were close, but oh, so far away. And now, you’ll never have the chance again." She lifted her necklace from between her breasts. It was a heavy medallion, a talismanic square with a sharp 'X' engraved in the center, each quadrant glowing with a different, sickly primary colour. She stroked the metal, and my blood turned to liquid lava. I screamed at the stone ceiling, my body twisting in agony. When the pain finally ebbed after what felt like hours, she let out that sweet, disgusting laugh."Whatever you took to defy me will no longer wo

  • The new worlder   Miles pov 3, Noxius

I weave through the crowd and throw myself out into the darkness. I lean against a wall in the shadows, hidden from the world. I hold my arm where she touched me; I can still feel her fingers against my skin. Forget her now. She doesn't want you, and after tonight, you won't even be here. I pull the glass flask from my inner pocket and down the bitter tea. Then, I transform. The pain is familiar but numbing. Talons sprout from my fingertips. Horns break through the skin of my forehead. A fire from within boils in my blood and I grow, straightening my monstrous frame. The mask remains, but thanks to the tea, I feel like I’m in control. I’m still Miles inside, even as Noxius takes shape. Now, it’s time. With one last thought of the girl with the wild hair, I sink my claws into the wall I was leaning against. The stones shatter and fall toward the guests below. The nightmare has begun. They were in my way. Today, I had intended for everyone to die, but aft

  • The new worlder   Miles POV 2, You?

She reaches out her hand for me to shake. I look down at it. I can’t. I mustn't touch her. I’m terrified that if I feel her skin against mine, I’ll abandon everything and never let her go. "No, thank you," I say, turning away. "I’m not poisonous, you know!" she yells after me. I laugh again. "I know," I call back, kept walking. But after only a few steps, I have to turn around one last time. I watch her for a few seconds before she disappears toward the city behind the trees. I smile to myself. At least I’ll have this memory to hold onto before my time is up. Then, I turn and start the climb toward the highest peak. The kit stood there, waiting in the shadows as it always does. It was filthy, no one had used it in ages. I scrubbed it as best I could, cleaning away the dust and the memories, and poured the water in. I knew it wasn't the right water. I didn't have the right source, but this was my only chance. I couldn't ask Jinkyu for help
