Kael’s POV

"Come, sit."

The words leave my lips softer than I’m used to. I’m a man of command, not invitation. But something about her—about Aria—makes me forget how I’m usually perceived.

She stands at the edge of the dining hall, framed in candlelight, still as a statue, except for the way her fingers twist the edge of her dress. That red fabric. The one I picked out. The one clinging to her body like it was made from a memory I didn’t know I had.

And still, she hesitates.

I can feel the fear in her. Not just from the way she clutches the gown, but in the way her eyes flicker toward every exit before finally settling on me.

She’s expecting pain.

I stay seated. If I go to her, I’ll only reinforce that fear. And that’s not what I want from her. Not now.

“Aria,” I say again, gently. “You need to eat.”

She doesn’t move. I sigh, then push back from my seat, walking to a chair farther down the table. Still close enough to watch her, but far enough to ease her nerves.

Aria’s POV"You’re keeping me here?"I knew the answer. I just needed to hear it again. Needed to see if he’d flinch. If there was even a shred of doubt in his certainty.Alpha Kael didn’t hesitate. “Yes. Until the investigation is over. After that, we’ll decide.”We.As if I had a seat at the table.“How long will that take?”He leaned back in his chair like we were discussing the weather. As his arms stretched, I caught a glimpse of taut muscle beneath the sleeve of his shirt, and then the slow motion of his hand trailing along the curve of his beard. My throat tightened, and I hated myself for noticing.“Could be a few weeks,” he said absently. “A month, maybe more.”“A month?” My heart sank.“Six at the most.” He gave me a faint smile like that would soften the blow.Six months.Six months locked inside a warrior pack ruled by a man who could kill with a look—and was strangely patient with me.I pressed a napkin to my lips, though I hadn’t eaten in the last several minutes. Aria’s POV“You’re keeping me here?”I had already heard him the first time. I just couldn’t accept it.Alpha Kael nodded, voice calm and terrifying in equal measure. “Until we’re done investigating. Then I’ll decide what’s next.”“But for how long?” I asked again, gripping the edge of the tablecloth like it might anchor me to sanity. He leaned back in his seat with practiced ease, the movement flexing the fabric of his shirt against his arms. His hand drifted to his beard, stroking the edge of it thoughtfully. He looked so casual—as if discussing how long I might be caged here wasn’t a decision that could alter the entire course of my life. His pause stretched too long. My heart sped up.“A month... maybe two,” he finally said.My breath caught.“Six, at the most.”Six months. My stomach twisted. I’d barely survived six hours in this place.I dropped my napkin on the table and pushed my plate away. The food, no matter how exquisite, suddenly tasted like ash.“You can’t keep me here t

  • The omega mate who dared run   The Quiet Before

Aria’s POV“Aria…”He said my name like he owned it. Like it wasn’t just a sound but a secret he’d been waiting to speak aloud.I froze at the dining hall entrance, barely holding myself together as my eyes met his. Alpha Kael sat alone at the long table, posture relaxed but presence unmistakable—like he could command a room with just a breath. His gaze didn’t waver. It didn’t judge. It just... waited.Eira nudged me gently from behind.“Enjoy your meal,” she whispered, then vanished before I could even think of begging her to stay.I swallowed hard.No one had to tell me this wasn’t a normal dinner invitation. I wasn’t naïve enough to think a feared Alpha King sat down for quiet meals with random Omegas. And yet, here I was. Dressed in a red gown that somehow fit like it had been tailored from a memory of my body. Skin clean. Hair soft. A far cry from the bruised wreck who’d collapsed on his pack’s border.I took a step toward the table. Then another. My hands trembled at my sides, b

  • The omega mate who dared run   The Alpha’s Table

Aria’s POV "I said I can walk." My voice came out firmer than I meant, but it trembled at the end. Alpha Kael stopped mid-step, his arms still holding me like I weighed nothing. His gaze dipped toward me, unreadable as always—sharp, stormy, unreadable. “Then prove it,” he said evenly. My breath caught. This man—the most feared Alpha in the werewolf world—had just carried me out of a torture chAria like I was glass, and now stood there like the idea of me walking might actually disappoint him. “I just need... a moment.” I mumbled. “Take it. But if you fall again, I’m carrying you, and that’s final.” His words weren’t cruel. They were certain. Like the sky saying it would rain. He gently set me on my feet, and though my knees quivered and my arms burned where the ropes had bruised me, I managed to stay upright—barely. His hand hovered near my waist, ready to catch me. I hated that it made me feel safe. A group of warriors stood outside the hall, eyes wide as their Alpha eme

  • The omega mate who dared run   The Alpha’s touch

Aria’s POV"Beautiful."The word barely left his lips, but I heard it as if it had been carved into my bones. No one’s ever called me that before—not even as a lie. The best I’ve been called is “passable,” “plain,” or “tolerable when quiet.” But beautiful?Especially from him?I stared at Alpha Kael Von Miller—every terrifying inch of him. Towering, broad-shouldered, and dressed in black like the shadows themselves answered to him. I’d expected to be paralyzed by fear. Instead, I was paralyzed by the softness in his voice, a sharp contradiction to everything I’d heard about him.His stormy grey eyes stayed locked on mine like they were searching for something... something only I could offer. My mouth went dry.Kael didn’t just have presence—he was presence. The others I’d seen at the border were large, yes. But this man made them look ordinary. Even the fabric of his shirt seemed to strain against the sheer power of him.And yet, somehow, I wasn’t thinking about the torture tools in t
