chapter 5

I didn’t see Lucas throughout and I didn’t care, the wedding was tomorrow and despite whatever happened, I was going to make sure that I enjoyed it before telling him about his baby.

I never wanted any of this and if I was being honest, I didn’t deserve an iota of the harsh way he was treating me.

“Ma'am, are you okay?” Melanine asked after I as caught them staring at a dress for far too long.

“Wedding jitters, right?” she asked and despite myself, I smiled and nodded my head.

“How about some self-care and a girls' night out? We can do a ton of fun stuff to get those nerves off” she said and proceeded to shake my shoulders in a funny way that I ended up laughing.

“Yeah, let's do that” I replied from busts of laughteMelanielanine ended up showing me just how much she took the term bestie to the core.

In my short time with Melanie, I didn’t think of Lucas and I loved our time so much that something crazy came to mind.

If Lucas thinks that doing stunts like last night would break me then he was by all means very correct, I needed a familiar face at the wedding to remind me of how much I should be happy.

After our ice cream and personal spa day, she escorted me to my chambers along with my assigned maids when I turned around just before my doors opened and my maids went in before me.

“Thank you, Melanie,” I said to her with so much gratitude

“You're welcome!” she said. There was just an air that surrounded her, something about her made me want her to be involved with my affairs with the palace.

Before all of this, the only friend I had was Lucas but I was getting the vibe that melamine was going to be a good change.

"Would you like to be my bridesmaid?" I asked and I saw her eyes widen in surprise.

"I. I don't know your Highness" she started and I grabbed her palms.

"I'm only just an event planner," she said

"And now my friend," I said while trying not to beg her.

"Please?" I begged and shook her hands in the same way she had shaken my shoulders.

We laughed at the action before closing her eyes and giving a big sigh.

"At least, I can have better cakes at the wedding," she said and I laughed before letting her hands go.

I walked into my room, one that was supposed to be shared with Lucas and my heart nearly fell at the way the maids were arranging every single detail for the wedding tomorrow.

I looked back at Melanie and gave a big smile before the doors shut.

The next morning was beyond chaotic, First I was woken up quickly to start preparing my skin body, and hair for the wedding, despite everything I was happy.

While the body and hair makeup were ongoing, my doors never shut because more and more people were going and coming including my mother, who seemed as though it was more her getting married than me.

"Lay those edges well!"

"Get her better shoes!"

"Fix her hair well, who employed you!"

My mother kept on barking orders and I tried not to laugh.

It wasn't long before I was done with the makeup and it was time for my father to walk me down the aisle.

He was already waiting for me outside my bedroom doors and as he linked his arm with mine, I felt a sense of pride wash over him.

I suddenly didn't want to let him down, It would break his heart, and not to mention the disgrace.

I didn't want to tell him that Lucas, the man whom I was on my way to get married to, hated me so much and that I was pregnant.

I was determined to have everything go smoothly today then tomorrow, we could sort out the rest and beat the option to go for.

The moment, I entered the hall, Lucius was by the right hand of Lucas who didn't bother to look at me one bit until I was standing before him.

I smiled at him but his face held this cold deathly stare at me that I was almost tempted to check my reflection in any reflective substance.

Did I have something on my face?

At least you can pretend— I internally said but Lucas just looked at me as though there was another reason.

Something was fishy…

The priest didn't take any time to start talking, smiles were plastered on everyone's faces while I searched for melanine.

A sort of ache pinched my heart as I expected her to be with me as I tied the knot.

I didn't listen to a word that the priest had said until it got to the vow-taking.

"Do you Lucas Carson, take Jessica Reeds as your future Luna, bearer to your pups and wife?" The priest asked Lucas.

We all waited for his response but Lucas kept looking at me with so much disgust, my eyes started to sting with the stares and tiny side talks.

"Lucius?" I whispered but his face degenerated into a sneer.

"Sire?" The priest called and Lucas took one look at me and turned to the crowd.

"I, Lucas Carson hereby…" he started and everyone including me was on the edge.

"Reject Jessica Reeds as my Luna and take Melanie Aster as my true found mate!" He shouted and the world stopped.

I blinked twice but the vision was still clear.

"What are you doing Lucas?!" I asked and tried to take his arm but he took his arm back, pushing me.

My knees buckled and I sat on the floor as Melanine came out wearing a similar dress to mine.

Tears welled in my eyes as I saw Melanin lean forward and kiss Lucas full on the lips, Aneesa roared within me as I immediately lunged at Melanie.

"You bitch!" I screamed.
