“Kia,” Maria began, her voice barely above a whisper. “What are you doing here? You weren’t invited.”

Rene met her eyes, his gaze unwavering. Slowly, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, elegant envelope. The golden seal glinted under the chandelier's light, and he handed it to her with a soft smile.

“Mr. Gunnar didn't see me as useless after all,” he said quietly, but with a hint of pride. “He sent my invitation later than the rest of the family, and I kept it a secret because I wanted to surprise you. I wanted to make you proud of me.”

Tears prickled at the corners of Maria’s eyes as she took the envelope. She could feel the weight of the moment, the tension in the room, the stares from her family and the guests. But all that mattered was the man standing in front of her, the man who had always been by her side despite everything.

“Are you proud of me now, Maria?” Rene asked, his voice gentle as he brushed a tear from her cheek. “I know I may not be up to their standar

  • The son of a billionaire in disguise   Take to the grave

***Present time***The precinct’s waiting room was cold, fluorescent, washed-out, and echoing with distant sounds of phones ringing and the soft click of boots down linoleum hallways. He sat hunched at the intake counter, barely able to hold himself upright. His face was swollen, lips cracked, one eye blackened so badly it barely opened. Blood had dried in crusted patches along his jaw and collar, and his arm bandaged poorly, blood still leaking, his jacket hung limp at his side.Detective Moreno stepped through the double doors at the sound of the commotion. His expression, already skeptical, turned unreadable as he took in the broken man slumped at the front desk.“Derek?” he asked. With wide-eyes, Derek turned toward the voice and the minute he saw the detective, something in him buckled. His knees hit the ground with a thud."Get someone down here! Medical! Now!" Moreno barked to the nearby officer before hurrying forward. He crouched low in front of Derek. "You need to calm down,

  • The son of a billionaire in disguise   His villain era?

*Two hours in the past*Rene didn’t move. His body tensed instinctively, years of learned survival screaming at him to duck, to run, to fight, but he held.Whoever was behind him wasn’t in a rush. That kind of calm… was worse than anger. He studied the mirror. One hand holding the weapon, steady. No tremor. No hesitation.A professional."You sure about that?" Rene said, voice quieter now, stripped of humor. "You pull that trigger and you don’t just kill me... You start something you can’t control."No response.Only silence. And the gun.Still raised.Still waiting."I will take my chances..." The voice finally flowed out. "Now, say 'Hi' to the devil for me."Bang.The sound ripped through the marble and porcelain with shattering finality.Rene turned fast, heart slamming in his chest-And saw Derek on the floor.Blood gushed from his arm, the one that had held the gun. His fingers twitched around the weapon, grip slipping. His face twisted in pain, disbelief distorting every line.A

  • The son of a billionaire in disguise   A confession

Detective Moreno turned the page in his file slowly as Antonio sat stiffly, eyes darting to the mirrored wall, his jaw already tense.“Mr. Rossi,” Moreno said, breaking the silence once more as he tapped the folder lightly, “Your father hosted the party where Kia Flores was last seen. A celebration in his honor, no less. That’s generous, considering the tensions within your family.”Antonio bristled. “It wasn’t personal. It was a business event.”“Ah, so watching a man who married into your family rise through your ranks and get an honor party that could’ve gone to your son wasn’t personal at all?”Antonio’s eyes flashed, but his voice stayed measured. “Kia proved himself useful to my father.”“Useful enough to ignore his background?” Moreno leaned in slightly. “A man with no legacy, no name, and yet somehow... he became the symbol of your family’s future. That had to sting.”Antonio shook his head. “I didn’t agree with it. But I accepted it.”Moreno stared for a beat. “And did your s

  • The son of a billionaire in disguise   A good man?

The fluorescent light buzzed overhead, stark and unforgiving. In the sterile room, Detective Moreno sat behind a steel table, eyes sharp and calculating. Across from him, Alejandro Rossi leaned back, carefully composed, at first.Moreno began softly, almost reverent. “You know, Mr. Alejandro, Kia Flores was a remarkable man. From nothing to commanding respect in the Rossi empire ... that takes grit. Not many have that kind of strength. He earned his position honestly.”Alejandro’s lips twitched into a cautious smile. “He did. He is... talented. A good man.”“Indeed,” Moreno said, leaning forward, voice lowering. “Must’ve been tough, giving up your role to him though, wasn’t it? You know, the position you held at the Rossi subsidiary? The very one Kia asked for, and you handed over. That was a generous move.”Alejandro’s jaw tightened imperceptibly. “It was... business.”“Business,” Moreno echoed, voice a notch sharper. “But some would say it was more than business. Kia, a nobody, step

  • The son of a billionaire in disguise   Taking this personally

The night air grew thicker with tension every passing second. Red and blue lights still flashed across the driveway, painting the walls and the marble steps. Rome stood near the ambulance as it drove off with Catherine and Maria inside, his eyes locked on the red taillights. His fists were tight at his sides. The moment they disappeared from sight, he snatched out his phone and dialed the number at the top of his list.Matthew answered on the second ring."Boss?""Where the hell is Rene?"There was a long pause. Not the kind of pause that came from thinking. The kind that came from fear."Boss... ummm... What do you mean? Isn’t he with you?"Rome’s voice dropped an octave, steely and dangerous. "Would I be calling you if he were?"Matthew went quiet. "I-I-I... What happened?"There was a long pause as Rome’s pacing started, tight and fast like a caged predator. "Damn it... He was at the party. Went into the bathroom. Never came back. Maria went looking for him... she found blood. Not

  • The son of a billionaire in disguise   Alive

The night was lit up by flashing red and blue lights that spilled through the windows like ghosts. Outside, police sirens blared, and officers spoke sharply into their radios. The cold night air felt harsh compared to the heavy tension still hanging inside the mansion.A couple of guests rushed toward the exits, their dresses swishing and heels clicking on the marble floor. Phones lit up everywhere as people hurried to capture what was happening, as paparazzi also lit up the entrance with camera lights. No one spoke loudly, but whispers filled the air like a storm.“They arrested them? Both families?” a woman said quietly, gripping her purse tight.“Yeah, right here at the party,” her friend answered. “I can’t believe it. The Rossis and Leontis, just like that.”Another voice added, “Who thought their whole world could fall apart over a nobody?”“It’s crazy,” someone else said. “This might be the end for both families.”The whispers grew louder as people speculated. Words like scandal
