LOGINThey met Rune who was just waiting for them at the general lobby.
His shirt was roughened and his hair was also in a mess. “Here's Rune!” Orion introduced both of them. “How can I forget?” Akira said as she shot death stares at Rune. “Hello miss,” Rune said with a smile, “I am Rune, I will be helping you out during your stay here.” he said. Akira rolled her eyes, “I don't want to be here.” Rune who was still bamboozled from the gang up against him a few minutes ago looked to Orion who gave him a wink. He seemed to get the message and he decided to play along. The last human who did this with him was buried somewhere under the city junkyard; this one here would not be any different. He adjusted his shirt as he spoke up, “we do not intend on having you here for long either.” Orion frowned. “Excuse me?” Akira asked in disbelief. “You heard me right, human.” Rune fired back. “Rune!” Orion roared. “Forgive me lord Orion.” Rune apologized quickly, “but you do know for a fact that this….” “Rune?” Orion repeated in a tone that conveyed his last earnings. Rune took a deep breath, he had let his temper get the best of him again, something that he shouldn't have. “I am sorry.” he apologized. Akira on the other hand stood and marveled at the authority Orion seemed to possess in this house. The only other person who had this much control in the house was…. “Kai has asked me to assign you to your new room, the last one was, well, you know what happened to the last one and we totally know whose fault it is.” Rune sneered. “Rune one more uncouth response from you and I will have you hunting ghouls for a week.” Rune was silent. Akira was suddenly curious. “Ghouls?” She asked. Orion and rune both chuckled nervously. “Just forget that I said anything, you just need to go take your bath, relax and get ready for dinner that would be served in….” Orion said as he looked up to Rune, his fingers snapping in quick succession. “Ummm umm…” Rune muttered as he struggled to put his words together, “forty five minutes?” “Ah yes,” Orion said, “forty five minutes, that's all it takes.” Akira was no fool. She knew when people were being weird around her, she was willing to take a Wild guess that these lycans were no different. “What's going on?” She asked, “what's a ghoul? You know that I am a grown woman right? Not some kid who is stuck up on believing that the unicorn exists.” “Hmmm” Rune and Orion groaned in unison. “What in the world?” AKira asked in disbelief, “they do exist don't they.” Rune scratched his head, “how did we get here again?” “How many more of you exist?” She asked. “All these questions would be answered with time, just go ahead and freshen up, we have a long time to discuss this.” Orion urged. Akira temporarily forgot about her resistance and followed Rune who walked ahead of her to her room. “So….” She said as the silence between the both of them was already becoming too long, “about the unicorns?” “Yes they exist and no, you can't see them, no one has in a long time now, and by long I mean far longer than the oldest human alive.” “Huh. Clear enough” Akira said as they walked on. “Which do you prefer?” Rune asked Akira. Confused, she looked around to see what it was that was being offered to her as a choice. Turns out it was a choice between the stairs and the elevator. “You might be one of those human conservatives who believe technology is destroying the world and you would like to protect the planet blah blah blah…” “What floor?” Akira asked from inside the elevator. “Of course, it would make sense that you're one of the lazy ones.” Rune said as he joined her in the elevator. Akira ignored him and pushed all of the buttons on the elevator. Her thought process? If he was going to be a bitch, then she was going to be a bigger one. “Stop it?” Rune cried, “you're going to slow us down.” “Well I am not hungry.” Akira said, her nose high up in the air. “Why? you!!” Rune roared angrily. Akira was unfazed. As much as she was scared of what these wolf-like creatures could do to her, she knew for a fact that they could not harm her, at least not for the next six months Especially these two. That was more than enough time for her to escape. The door to the elevator dinged and without asking, Rune pulled her out of the elevator and walked on. “Hey, let go of me!” She yelled, struggling to break free from his grip. “You know what happened the last time you were this obnoxious? Even as a human your memory should not be short to forget what happened a few hours ago especially as it was life threatening.” Akira silently followed him up the stairs, “yeah right, just as I thought.” He continued, “only this time, when they come rushing for your necks I would not stay to protect you, I'd gladly let them take the fall and your neck at the same time” Akira silently obeyed;the mere thought of blood Freightining her. As much as she could vouch that Rune, Kai and Orion can't harm her, she could not say the same for the other members of this house. “Welcome to your room!” Rune said, clapping twice. The lights came on and the window blinds folded themselves automatically and smartly. “Impressive huh?” Rune asked with a wide grin across his face, “I did this myself.” He waited patiently for a comment from Akira but turned to see what the problem was. “Akira?” He called. “What's going to happen to me in six months?” She asked. “Huh?” Rune asked, obviously confused. “Those men, Cain…” she said as she sat in the bed, “why did they want me dead?” She asked. “Oh?” Rune said as he racked his brain hard to find answers to this question. There was no logical answer that he could come up with. He did not want to risk exposing things that should be exposed by Kai. More importantly, he did not want to scare her off. “Um,those guys? They are just naturally jerks?” “There was more, I could feel rage, anger.” Akira said. Rune chuckled, “Those guys? Pfft!” He scoffed, “they could not harm a fly.” He said. Akira looked at his arms, they were blood stained. There was no sign of visible wounds but someone must have bled during that encounter. Rune observed what she was looking at and got the message. He tried to hide the stains but it was already too late. “What are those creatures that attacked me?” She asked. Rune froze. He hated this question and conversation as much as the next person. “I think I heard someone call them honduras.” “Oh no…you do not want to hear about that.” Rune said as he handed her towels and pushed her Into the bathroom. “Here, just have your bath and head down for dinner, there will be no more discussions about honduras.”Back at the pack house, the wolves were safe. The house had little to no damage, thanks to Akira's idea of meeting Orion far away from the pack house before he even got there. Tony was in the Infirmary now. “I did all I could, I have done everything magically possible to ensure that he survives and he surely will. Now we wait and let mother nature do her thing,” Rune had told her, “only thing is that she's painfully slow but she is really good at what she does— most of the time” he joked. She laughed at how he spoke like he knew her personally. Rune on the other hand was glad to see that she could still smile. She had excused herself to be alone. She knew that she had a lot to do but first she was going to gather her thoughts. The battle with Orion had destroyed a lot of things but In the same vein, that destruction brought its own revelation along with it. For example, the growing stump of life inside her. The sun rose to meet her waiting for him at the balcony of the pack ho
Orion felt the cold steel on his neck and he went ahead to press his neck to it.He wanted this horrible reality to end as quickly as it started. There was no more righteous fury to drown his sense of reasoning anymore. There was only clarity, Raw and Merciless. It did not pander to the reason why he did those things. He blinked, his five senses soaking the destruction that laid bare before him.The air smelled like ash, iron and blood, human blood. He followed the scent instinctively, with his eyes following the lead of his nose to the source.“Tony—” he muttered. “He is not moving.” He said aloud to Akira.“Really? I didn't notice” Eliza scoffed, her eyes burning with anger.Orion tried to move but was pushed back by Eliza, “move and you'd wish you were him.” She warned.Orion shivered in horror.Tony's body lay twisted unnaturally near the fractured edge of the chasm, his left arm bent beneath him at an angle that no living limb should hold. Blood had soaked through his sleeve an
“Whoa,Dad!” The tires of the jeep screeched to a staggering halt.In front of them was a large ditch, “this wasn't here last week was it?” Cain asked.Eliza shook her head. “Orion must have done this.”“Damn, that's one powerful wolf if you ask me. I mean I knew he was powerful but not to this extent”“I know, that's not what we need at this moment.”“Then we better get moving, I think I can scale this,” he said pointing to the ditch, “in one jump, you?”Eliza smiled, “I am not a wolf pup dad, I think I can manage.”He reached over and brought her closer with a bear hug, “ensure you get back alive and in one piece.” “I will, you better take your own advice too dad”“Definitely, it's just a couple of Houndras, those things are like cake.”They remained in that position for a while before Cain broke it up, “let's go, we have to ensure that there's a pack returning to.”Cain took the left while Eliza took the right. She jumped across the ditches with ease, her eyes peeled for any hound.
The cracked earth created a chasm between Akira and her comrades.“There, far enough to interfere but safe enough to watch how things unfold” Orion taunted, “place your bets, people. Who is emerging victorious tonight?”Akira but back her lips. It was too late to run now and she was grateful, now she had no other option than to put an end to all of this. Her weapon, Kestrel's Filament, slid down her arms swiftly like some living serpent and straightened to form a staff, “bring it on?”Orion chuckled, “it won't be fair to bring it on when you aren't sure of your footing, I mean, take a look at you—” he waved his hands and the earth under Akira’s foot shook, causing her to stumble in the process. She used her cord to maintain her balance eventually.“That should not be your problem Orion. I said, bring it on!”“Akira be careful!” Tony shouted as she lost her footing. The floor tilted this time around after Orion waved his hands. Gravity seized her and she fell. She struck the stone alon
“Where do you think you're going?” Kai asked, his strong hands gripping Akira tightly by the wrist. “Did you not hear a word of what he said?” She responded, her anger, clearly visible in the tone of her voice. “You're not going to face him alone are you?” “I don't. We have to give Rune some time to catch his breath. He's the only fire we have that might stand a chance against Orion.” “You're still trying to talk to him? That wolf has gone mad with rage and hate.” “And who's fault is that?” She hated that she had brought that up but it was necessary to remind Kai that they were in this mess because of him. He went too far and he dropped the bar to hell with the way he went about to cover his actions. “Look, Kai. As much as I would like to put the blame on you and scold you, I am afraid I can't, not now.” “You've done enough for the pack as it is. That was why I was brought here in the first place, no? I was brought to save this pack from the path of destruction that you alre
“Is that why you are here?” Akira asked, her countenance expressed anger and disgust so strong enough to keep the most dangerous predator away but Kai was more stubborn than a wolf in heat.He knew what he was after and he was going to get it one way or the other, all he wanted was a conversation.“Hmm” Tony moaned, “thanks Kai, this is nice.” “What is he still doing here?” Kai thought. He had hoped that something somewhere would cause him to leave..His eyes trailed to Tony's moving lips, “that toast is not for you!” He muttered.“You said something?” Tony mumbled with his mouth half full.“Oh it's nothing.” Kai said with a fake smile, “enjoy!”In reality he just wanted him to choke on the next bite.He could do it manually; it takes him nothing to snuff the life out of that human but he would rather wait for him to die of natural causes. He suddenly remembered that he was still in a conversation with Akira. He might have slipped out temporarily but Akira stood there, her ears waiti
Akira almost blurted out the thoughts that filled her head at the moment. That little sob story was really getting to her and it wasn't in a good way. What was Cain and his daughter on about? She did not know if she was to be insulted or grateful by the idea that she was a pawn in all of this.In h
The entire pack house was silent as expected, everyone who brought life was out of the house leaving Kai alone with his misery.Orion was on a quest to hurt him and the woman he loved.Rune was out with the said woman he loved on some kind of quest to help the pack. The woman he loved was not speak
“There is no way I am going to let you do that. Do you hear yourself?”“Dad—”“Not now Eliza;” Cain snapped, “As much as I would like to deal with you now I can't, you'll just have to wait?”Tony tried to take control of the moment “You don't understand Mr.?”“Cain.” Cain answered.“Yeah, right, Mr
Defeating a houndra was no easy business, Kai could testify to that,he had spent a lot of time fighting them when they came to attack his pack wolves. But never did it ever occur to Kai that he would be pissed with something so difficult as catching them—alive! It was easier to lay waste to them
