“I heard you had a visitor Kai?” Orion asked as soon as he got into the meeting room.

“Yes…” Kai sneered as she started into the open space.

His inner wolf had never been at peace as it was now but it was at a cost.

“Do you want to tell me anything about the young lady you brought back home?” Orion asked.

“No, she'll be under my protection and that's final.” Kai answered.

Orion knew him all too well, he was the only thing closest to a parent that he had so he knew when there was something bothering him.

“If there's anything at all, you know you can talk to me right?”

“Help me…”

Kai's wolf was on edge, his mate was in trouble.

He could sense her fear, he could sense her call for him even though she was far from where he was.

“Help me…” he heard her call out to him again.

Without saying a word to Orion, he stormed out the throne room and headed straight to the guest room.

His steps quickened when he saw the door to the guest room busted and crowded.

He managed to make his way to the front and what he saw enraged him.

His mate cowered in fear in a corner of the room and rune trying his best to pull the wolves away from her.

“Enough!” He thundered, while trying to assess the entire scenario.

“What the fuck is going on here….?”he asked.

Akira on hearing his voice instinctively jumped and ran into his arms, sobbing.

“This was safety.” She thought as she held in tightly to Kai, soaking his very essence, his wild scent mixed with sandalwood.

A scent her brain took up immediately and associated with safety.

Kai on the other hand could feel sparks running down his spine.

But there was a twist.

For the first time in centuries, he could feel his member rising.

Slow, hot and throbbing as it rose.

It took all it had not to show the embarrassment on his face.

But he has never felt alive as he did in that moment.

“get off me.” He growled, Akira got the message and hurriedly got behind him.

“What is going on here?” He asked angrily, “who is behind this?”

The wolves were silent.

“Answer me?” He growled.

Cain the high beta came out from amongst them, his chest heaving up and down in fury, “we decided to take action since you have no idea that rune stowed away a human in this pack house without your knowledge.”

Cain continued, “we found out and now it is our mission to make things right,I would propose we kickrine out of the pack for even considering bringing a human back here to the pack house.”

Orion, who had been behind them the entire time, spoke up, “what is going on here?” He asked .

He was set to get an answer when he sniffed the air.

“This scent.” He said in a tone that indicated that he was familiar with the scent, “is there a human in here?” He asked.

“That is not the point now, my guest was almost killed by Cain!” Kia yelled and with that he had vain struggling with his feet high up in the air.

“But….my…my lord?” He said as he struggled to speak, “she is human, she doesn't deserve to be here.lets end her here and now!”

Kai's eyes burned with unbridled anger, “you want to lay a finger on my mate?”

The entire room went silent and the wind took the time it needed to make its presence known.

For a brief moment they all stood trying to process what just happened.

Cain struggled and managed to get free form Kai's grip.

“What did you say?” He asked.

“Akira here is my mate and no one, not even you Cain should darelau your hands on her.”

“If any of you as much as look at her in a funny way I promise to have you heads rolling down the stairs to my towers.”

“Reject her!” A quiet voice came from the crowd of wolves.

Kai was furious, “who said that?” He barked as he drew out his claws, ready to punish whoever it was that made that statement.

“Whoever it might be…” Cain chipped In, “he is right, you can't have a human as a mate, we would not allow that.”

Somehow, Cain had managed to give the rebels a voice.

“Stand down Cain!” Kai growled, he had little tolerance for bullshit like this.

“This is not me standing up to you, this is me trying to uphold this sacred pack!”

“What would the other packs think when they hear of you, the supreme alpha, being mated with a human, we will be seen as weak.”

“I will not risk my life and that of other wolves just because of one human.”

Akira just hid, she had no say or power in this, she silently prayed to whatever power that be to help her get out of this situation.

Cain was not done with the damage he had prepared to cause, “you either reject her before the entire pack and have her publicly executed with your own hands.”

“I will not do that.” Kai said immediately without thinking it through, “I will not fold to your foolish demands,I am the supreme alpha Cain, I am the supreme alpha not you, Can. You have to remember that.”

Cain gave a low chuckle one that made Akira shiver all over.

“Then I am willing to put my life down and challenge you Kai, to a duel.”

Several gasps resonated from within the wolves.

This was one theory that had never been tested out but it was happening.

“You ?” Kai muttered in disbelief, “you dare challenge me?”

Orion spoke up, “I am afraid he is right Kai, you either fight him to uphold your status and protect the pack or you reject her.”

Kai knew what he had to do at that moment.

He never really cared for the human woman, he had lost all hopes of finding a mate and even abandoned the whole idea when he figured his mate was human.

“So what's it going to be?” Cain asked, “reject your mate and find another or lose your throne. I really want you to duel me.”

Kai had already made up his mind but Orion spoke up.

“I have another idea….” He said drawing the attention of everyone, “this human has a purpose and we would need time for that purpose to be fulfilled.”

Akira gulped, she just sat there at the corner like some antique piece of furniture at an auction.

“She'll be your prisoner and give her a space of six months to prove to us she is worthy or she dies….”

The room was silent and Orion looked over to Orion for approval.

Kai nodded, he had nothing to lose after all, “I agree!” He said.

“I agree” Cain said, “six months and that's it.”

“Then it's settled then, take her away.” Kai said.

“Where do you think you're going?” Kai asked, his strong hands gripping Akira tightly by the wrist. “Did you not hear a word of what he said?” She responded, her anger, clearly visible in the tone of her voice. “You're not going to face him alone are you?” “I don't. We have to give Rune some time to catch his breath. He's the only fire we have that might stand a chance against Orion.” “You're still trying to talk to him? That wolf has gone mad with rage and hate.” “And who's fault is that?” She hated that she had brought that up but it was necessary to remind Kai that they were in this mess because of him. He went too far and he dropped the bar to hell with the way he went about to cover his actions. “Look, Kai. As much as I would like to put the blame on you and scold you, I am afraid I can't, not now.” “You've done enough for the pack as it is. That was why I was brought here in the first place, no? “Is that why you are here?” Akira asked, her countenance expressed anger and disgust so strong enough to keep the most dangerous predator away but Kai was more stubborn than a wolf in heat.He knew what he was after and he was going to get it one way or the other, all he wanted was a conversation.“Hmm” Tony moaned, “thanks Kai, this is nice.” “What is he still doing here?” Kai thought. He had hoped that something somewhere would cause him to leave..His eyes trailed to Tony's moving lips, “that toast is not for you!” He muttered.“You said something?” Tony mumbled with his mouth half full.“Oh it's nothing.” Kai said with a fake smile, “enjoy!”In reality he just wanted him to choke on the next bite.He could do it manually; it takes him nothing to snuff the life out of that human but he would rather wait for him to die of natural causes. He suddenly remembered that he was still in a conversation with Akira. Akira almost blurted out the thoughts that filled her head at the moment. That little sob story was really getting to her and it wasn't in a good way. What was Cain and his daughter on about? She did not know if she was to be insulted or grateful by the idea that she was a pawn in all of this.In hindsight, she was grateful that she was kept alive but this?. This was madness the more she thought about it. What was she? A pawn? Some pity party. The idea that her life has been threatened, saved and threatened again because of one man almost sent her flying off the handle. She stared with disgust in her eyes. That was stupid— there was no other word to describe that.“Umm—” she said, breaking the conversation that was going on, “why don't we get back to this after we've gone after the houndra?”“Come on, let's go!” Rune agreed.“Not you two.” Akira said to Eliza and Cain, “you two need to remain here—” She caught the look of confusion on their face that clearly asked one question, “w

Are we getting something?” They all stood faced by the destruction the houndra had made. “How long has he been here?” Tony asked. “I don't know— it's been a while and it's been so long that we don't know how long.” “Wait what?” Akira gasped. "Well, let's not hang around here while it gets away. Time to track it and bring it back here." Rune suggested. Akira’s face was grim. "Bring it back? Rune, look at this. This is the result of her mistake. “ “They held a houndra with the aim of harming us just because they can. “Akira I thought we've been over this?” Tony asked. “We weren't, we were only distracted for a brief moment and I guess we know why” Rune stood there looking confused at what was happening before him.
