Chapter 4

Sapphire POV

"Mate."

I heard the loud growl from where I was standing on top of the staircase. I feel the mate bond pulling at me and I realize that it was my mate's growl. I have some mixed feelings. I feel happy and sad at the same moment.

I look out over the crowd while Charles and I walk down the stairs. I see a guy speed walking towards me and I assume that he is my mate. I see four royal guards intercept him. I see the guards take him into the throne room. I also see my father walking in front of them. This can only lead to trouble. 

"Please excuse me. I will be back in a short while." I tell Charles and walk off towards the throne room. I nearly made it to the throne room when my mother stops me.

"Dear don't go in there. Your father will sort this out. You go mingle with the other guests."

"No mother. I do not trust my father not to do anything extreme. Let me past."

"Sapphire go mingle with the guests or I will be forced to ask the guards to lock you up in your room."

"This is not over mother. I hope you know that."

I walk back over to where I left Charles. I see a beautiful blond standing next to him.

"Sapphire welcome back. This is Emelia. She is the Luna of the dark moon pack on graham island."

"Nice to meet you, Luna."

"Same here princess. Do you mind if I speak to you privately?"

"No of course not. Follow me." 

I lead the Luna outside into the royal garden where we can have some privacy. I came here a lot to have some peace and quiet. No one even knows about this place except me.

"So how can I help you, Luna."

"Please call me Emelia princess. Are you sure no one will hear us?"

"We are safe Emelia."

"Then let us get straight to the point. The person your guards have dragged of is my friend and my husband's Beta. I believe he is your mate."

"I assumed he is my mate since he growled 'mate' and then walked towards me." I know I sound a bit sarcastic but she was stating the obvious.

"Do you know why he was dragged off."

"I was trying to find out but my mother intervened. I just think that it is for no good reason. Why don't we sit down then I will tell you my story."

We sit down on the bench before I speak again.

"The vampire royal family doesn't believe in soulmates.  My parents have been telling me and my brother since we have been born that we need to keep our bloodline clean. It doesn't matter who our mates where we need to marry vampires. So you see even if your beta was my mate I won't be able to be with him. The only reason I can think of why my father took your beta into the throne room is to buy him off so he leaves me alone"

"His name is Andrew by the way. You know that is a horrible way to live. My mother will be so disappointed in the royal family. The moon goddess picks a person's mate for a reason you know. What happened to your parent's mates?"

"First why will your mother be disappointed in the royal family? And secondly, I don't know about my mother's mate. She never spoke of him before. As for my father's mate, he was mated to a fairy but he rejected her as soon as he found out."

"Yes, I forgot you were away at school when we first came here with the peace treaty. My mother is the moon goddess."

"So you are the angel my father is always referring too. Wait so I am currently just having a chat with the daughter of the moon goddess. I am so sorry if I disrespected you in any way." 

"You have not disrespected me in any way. I don't want to be treated differently because of who I am. I love being treated as just another person okay. but tell me is your views the same as your family."

"O goodness no. I grew up with nannies always telling me about their mates and how wonderful they are. I always wished that my parent will allow me to be with my mate since I won't be the one wearing the queen title but I had no such luck. "

"I like you and I will try and help you as much as I can. Everyone deserves to be with their mate no matter their species."

"Will you please tell me about Andrew," I ask Emelia shyly

"Of course what do you want to know?"

"Tell me what kind of person he is?"

"I can't tell you much since I have only known him for a couple of months but what I can tell you is he is a very loyal and caring person. In the last couple of years, he has traveled with my husband in search of me. When my husband found me I was human and pregnant with a human's child. Andrew was the one that researched human pregnancies for my husband. He was actually leaving in a couple of days to go on his own search of you."

"That was nice of him to do for his friend. I am glad he found me then."

We chatted some more about Andrew and their pack. I learned so much about Emelia Derric and everyone that I feel like I have known them for years.

Emelia's phone rings and she walks away so she can have some privacy but the look in her eyes sent chills down my spine once she came back.

"That was my husband. We need to leave immediately. Your father had his guards beat up Andrew. We need to get him to a pack doctor immediately."

"Lets us go then. Just follow me and stay close otherwise you will get lost."

She nods and we power walked back to the castle. I glance back every now and again just to make sure Emelia is still behind me. 

When we arrived back at the castle Emelia went in search of her husband and I went looking for my father. I need to know what happened.
