Chapter 3

Author: Dottie
When I opened my eyes again, Samuel was staring directly at me.

He seemed pleasantly surprised. Without warning, he pulled me into his arms.

"Regina, we're having a baby!"

I froze. For a moment, I even forgot to push him away.

After all, I'd gone through thirty rounds of IVF without ever getting pregnant. I'd long since given up hope.

My heart stirred. Just as I was about to speak, he continued.

"Jessie has always wanted a child. Have the baby and let her raise it."

My body instantly felt numb.

"What did you just say?"

Samuel frowned. He seemed unhappy with my reaction.

"Jessie hates pain. You know that. She loves kids, so just do her a favor."

As he spoke, he casually transferred 50 thousand dollars into my account and kissed me. "Be good. Do as I say."

I pushed him away. My voice trembled with disbelief. "Samuel! What do you take me for?"

He didn't answer. Instead, he simply frowned at me as if he couldn't understand why I was making such a fuss.

Only after he left to answer another phone call did I place a trembling hand over my stomach. Tears rolled down my cheeks.

The baby was innocent. The doctor had once warned me that if I lost this baby, I would never be able to conceive again.

I had to protect my child, I had to cure my mother's illness, and I had to get them both away from this place.

The thought had barely crossed my mind when the door was kicked open.

Jessie stood in the doorway with her arms crossed. Five or six large men stood behind her.

Every hair on my body stood on end. I backed away in terror. "What are you doing–"

Before I could finish my sentence, someone grabbed my hair from behind and threw me back onto the bed.

They covered my mouth before I could scream. I felt a sharp pain from the waist down. A warm liquid trickled down my legs.

The men's laughter blended with Jessie's applause.

By the time silence returned, I was lying in a pool of blood lifelessly.

I heard Jessie's soft voice close to my ear. "How about we make a bet too? We'll bet on who Samuel chooses to believe."

With that, she smiled and suddenly slapped herself hard across the face.

Her eyes welled up with tears. She ran to the door and crashed directly into Samuel's arms as he entered.

"Samuel! Regina said she'd rather die than have this baby and give it to me. The second you left, she brought a bunch of men here and–"

Tears streamed down her face as she held up her phone.

"She said you cheated on her, so she was going to cheat on you too. That way it'd be fair.

"Look. I recorded everything. I tried to stop her, and she slapped me."

The moment Samuel saw what was on the screen, he went completely still.

His eyes widened. He pushed Jessie aside and stormed to the bed. He hauled me upright with bloodshot eyes.

"Regina! Have you lost your mind?"

I opened my mouth, but I couldn't make a sound.

The sight of me seemed to enrage him even further.

"Fine. Fine! Do you really hate me that much? Is this how you're getting back at me? Congratulations. You win!"

His voice kept rising, and my vision kept fading.

The last thing I saw before losing consciousness was Jessie's triumphant smile.

After sorting everything out, Samuel returned to the hospital. Holding me in his arms, he said through choked sobs, "Regina, I've gotten revenge for you. When are you going to wake up?"I know I was wrong. I really do."Every day, he stayed by my bedside and never left. When the doctors said I needed physical stimulation to aid my recovery, he learned how to massage my arms and legs. He was clumsy at it. Half the time, he'd end up sitting there with tears in his eyes.He told me stories from our past, including the day we first met and the first time he saw me in a white dress, but sooner or later, he'd always lose the ability to continue.Instead, he'd bury his face in my palm. His shoulders would tremble. He refused to eat. Meal after meal brought by the caregivers remained untouched until they grew cold.He refused to sleep too. Night after night, he sat beside my bed watching me. He was terrified that I'd open my eyes while he wasn't looking. In less than two weeks, he'd lo

The screams from the villa's basement lasted all night.Eventually, the men broke. As Samuel raised the knife again, they burst into tears and confessed everything."It was all Ms. Scott's idea."She paid us to get rid of the baby in that woman's stomach."She told us we could have some fun too. She said not to treat that woman like a person. There'd be plenty more money afterward."The security cameras had been removed beforehand, but we kept a hidden body camera. We recorded everything. If you don't believe us, watch it yourself."Samuel's hand froze in midair. As the footage played on the screen, his vision turned dark briefly. The truth was finally exposed. In the video, Jessie stood nearby with her arms crossed. The malicious smile never left her face.My desperate screams echoed through the room. I was trying to protect my stomach by curling up.I kept calling out Samuel's name desperately.Toward the end, the pleading vanished from my eyes and was replaced by despair

Samuel's eyes went wide. For a moment, he was speechless."I just said that offhand. Who told you idiots to actually obey everything she said?"Get those photos and those posts scrubbed clean before sunrise. If they're still up by morning, don't bother coming back."And once the specialists from abroad arrive, send someone to check on Regina's mother. I heard her condition isn't stable."Only after his subordinates hurriedly agreed and fled did he finally slump against the wall. With both hands braced against it, he trembled as if every ounce of strength had been drained from his body."I'm sorry, Regina. I didn't know. I didn't know."His voice grew softer and softer until it broke with emotion."Wake up. I'll stop lying to you. We'll get married again immediately. I won't hide anything from you ever again."Regina, please wake up."Near dawn, a doctor finally emerged from the emergency room with a stack of reports.Looking at Samuel, he spoke solemnly."The patient is no l

Several people grabbed Samuel and held him back. Otherwise, he would have jumped after me.He leaned out the window. The sight of the crimson pool below made his vision go black. He nearly collapsed. After stumbling down the stairs, he saw me lying motionless on the ground. Blood continued spreading beneath me.At that moment, all he could hear was a buzzing noise. Every other sound disappeared. When he finally came back to his senses, he crawled to my side. His hands trembled uncontrollably."Regina, stop joking around. Get up."For the first time, he sounded genuinely panicked. "Regina, stop scaring me."He reached out with the intent of pushing me, but he stopped just before coming into contact. He was too afraid to even touch me.He couldn't understand it. All he'd asked was for me to apologize to Jessie. Was that really enough to make me jump?"Regina, you can be angry at me if you want, but what about your mother?"Trembling, he tried to check if I was breathing. When h

I was woken up by the voices outside my ward."Is that her? She looks so innocent. Never would've guessed she'd go that far just to get rid of her own baby.""Seriously. Paying people to do that to herself? That's a new one. Guess you really can't judge a book by its cover."My heart skipped a beat. With trembling hands, I picked up my phone.Photos of me being forcibly posed in humiliating positions went viral on the internet. The whispers outside the door merged with the insults flooding my screen. My heart pounded so hard that I began hearing buzzing sounds in my head.Bang! The door was pushed open again.
