The room went silent as the physician took his leave. Rose cannot comprehended what had occurred, feeling as if she was on clouds where this was a dream to her— a nightmare. But being a realistic person, it was quick for her to pull herself from her daydreams, understanding that the grim condition was real.
"We don't have that much money," Josie was the one to start the conversation. She didn't raise the opinion of asking funds from her aunt, as all of them knew the pettiness that the woman had.
"I will think of a way," Mrs. Maury said, "If I take a work, we should have enough fund—"
"Mama, it's forty gold!" Josie raised her voice, shaking her head, "We will never have that much money not even if we save up for a year. The physician mentioned we only have one month to gather forty gold. From where can we find that much money in such a short amount of time?"
"Calm down, Josie
While Rose prepared herself after breaking the news to her mother of her soon departure, Josie was busy to finish her birthday present to Mr. Harding.Rose was standing near the window of their room which located on the second floor. She stared at the sky, once again thinking over her choices and the new life she would have to adapt to.As she had been staring at the sky, from the corner of her eyes, Rose noticed a swift shadow shifting behind the trees. As she leaned forward to once again confirm what she said, a hand landed on her shoulder, startling her.Rose's green eyes darted over her sister. "What's wrong?" Josie questioned when seeing Rose's shocked face.Rose felt that due to her choice which seen as a selfless sacrifice, her sister and mother had been tiptoeing around her feelings as if they were afraid to hurt her. To be treated like a piece of glass, Rose didn't know how she should feel a
Josie stared at her reflection on the mirror. While Rose was still asleep, she had gotten herself ready to attend the birthday party held by Mr. Harding. She was still feeling bitter on how the party was held in fact by Lady Georgia who was rumored to have set her eyes on Jayden. Her hand tightened on the hair brush. While staring at her face she nodded to herself. "Lady Georgia will never succeed to steal his love by money. Jayden isn't a greedy man."When Rose woke up, her bed was empty. She heavily pushed herself from the bed, feeling all sort of emotions wrecking a storm inside her. Finally it came. The day for her to leave her house.Rose expected this day to come one day sooner or later as she would inevitably marry a man soon enough. What she didn't expect is how quick this marriage occur.Rose had no regrets but she can't stop feeling sad for leaving her sister, mother, and her unconscious father.Once Rose had prepared herself, she tied her golden hair with a simple blue sati
Josephine was quite a simple girl. A praise for her was enough to make her happy and enough to make her forget that she had just doomed a servant's future because of her jealousy."I am glad to see you here, Miss Josephine," Jayden then said, whenever the corner of his lips raise, Josie's heart skipped a beat. She had never been in love as much as she felt now toward Jayden. Every inch of her heart seemed to longed for him. "Yes, I made sure to come today. Happy birthday once again, Jayden."The man's eyes fell on the present box that Josie had handed out and thankfully received them, "Thank you very much but I would have been content with your appearance to the party, miss Josephine."Josie smiled, "I hope you would be happy with the present," her eyes then looked around his house. Jayden's house wasn't large but it wasn't small either. Compared to her house perhaps it would be a bit bigger but the insides of his house had turned luxurious as if a fairy had came and whisper a sparkli
On the kingdom of Essex, in the castle of the Duchy, Dominic who decided to leave his house in a good mood, pushed his hair with his hand when he walked down the staircase. A younger man walked the opposite way of his path, making his way up from the staircase.Dominic spared no glance to the younger man who was known to be his younger brother. Precisely, Lady Ashley's son, his step-brother."Leaving at night again?" His brother spoke.Dominic rolled his black eyes to meet his brother's brown ones. If he had not spoken to him, Dominic would have forgotten his existence or the face that he was even alive, thought Dominic to himself."I say that monster always leave their house at night. Is it so they could eat humans? So their despicable action is not seen?" The younger man stepped closer to Dominic. Even though he was standing one level over Dominic, he was still shorter in height compared to Dominic. No matter how much his younger brother greedily eats and drinks in the end of the da
From her left, Rose saw the shadow emerging and the people who had been hiding in the bushes and trees stepped out. Their faces were covered with cloaks and mask that covered the lower half of their face. Another group of people waited from behind."That's the woman?" One of the men that had been hiding behind the tree, becoming one with the darkness looked at Rose with his eyes squinted. When his fellow friend nodded his head, he smiled, "Seems like today's job would be the easiest one."They were convinced that taking down Rose would be easy. They only need to make her terrified and screamed for help to the point where she appeared traumatized before going to help her from the "attacker" which was their fellow ally that took position to trick the girl. What they wasn't aware of was Rose's deep stubbornness. No matter how scared she was, she kept her guard to herself. When the man tried to grabbed her by her hand, Rose took more rocks from the ground, throwing them to the man.She kn
Rose expected in another three minute at most before the men who had been surrounding her would try to either break down the door or the glass to capture her.She only have three more minutes inside the carriage where it is the safest before she had to fend for her own life. Rose heard from outside screaming and yelling that suddenly appear. She raised her eyebrows, pulling herself together and watched her trembling hands that tried to opened the curtain. The fire from the oil lamp inside the carriage was left a single one as the other four had been extinguished. She used the dim light to help her look on outside, only to be startled by splatter of red that hits the glass. She shrieked, hearing a thud at the same time and she could make out it was the sound of a person's body that had been thrown to the carriage door. She could hear more sounds of fights, the glaring noise when blades hit against each other, and the voices of people screaming for help, all only cornered Rose to the le
Rose came into it when she saw the large figure of castle appearing before the street that was covered by the luscious trees. Even though it was dark, the castle was bright from light as though the entire building was made out of diamond that glitters when light hits its smooth surface. She had tried to questioned the man who had brought her to the castle, being on her guard in fear that he would bring her to a dangerous place but the man only answered her, "The young master's order is absolute."Rose didn't know who this young master was but seeing he followed Dominic, she guessed it was none other than him.She trusted her guts and waited to see the castle which was as illustrated as the castle that were told in children tale. The guards looked at her with his eyes narrowed. Questions were asked but Rose couldn't answer, she decided it was best not to and watched it as the same man who had brought her to the castle explained who it was."This lady is the Duchess's guest, someone you
Dominic watched Rose's lips opened, her green eyes seemed to be showing enough surprised for his enjoyment. He guessed that she must have suffered a lot of shock today. He looked again to Lady Ashley, the woman, watching him again with his askew gaze was a usual occasion to him. This time, he can see her faint smile, believing she had won with her underhanded plan.Pitiful, thought Dominic. The poor woman believed that she had won a fight that hadn't started yet, not knowing that she had lost instead.Rose's trust won't be hers, thought Dominic to himself. He would made sure Rose's trust would not fall into the wrong hands."This would be your first time to meet him," said Lady Ashley to Rose. "This is Dominic, I suppose you have been told about him by your aunt. He would be your husband."Rose almost questioned the woman to repeat her words once again, believing she must have been daydreaming. Was it possible that she had died and now this was a fragment of her illusion?Rose tried t
