Chapter 3

UNVEILING THE FACADE

Amy POV

The next day....

I was typing away on my computer in the room that Marcus had assigned to me. I had specifically told him, I was not interested in sleeping in the same room with him.

I was still scared of his reaction to my pregnancy, but decided not to discuss the topic to him just yet.

An email suddenly poped up on my phone and I checked my device, reading through the content of the email.

I screamed with joy and punched the air; I could not believe that Whales Corporation had picked me for their interview, after endless months of trying to get a job with them.

Whales cooperation is the biggest company in the entire city of Florida and it is always a wish for everyone to work with them.

I got out of my seat and head into the bathroom, taking a quick shower. Marcus had gone to work and he still had not calm down, after the encounter with Damien from fhe previous day.

By the time was I done dressing, I stared at the mirror appreciating my beauty once again. The interview had come all of a sudden, and I wanted to be a major part of the moment.

Hours later, I arrived at the company. Everyone was engrossed in their monitor, making it hard to speak with anyone.

"Mrs Amy Lexington." I looked up and a woman approached me with a smile on her face. "Welcome to Whales Corporation. The boss asked that I bring you to the office immediately you come." I nodded and acknowledged her warm reception.

We used the elevator and it lead us to a long and silent hall. From the glass doors, I noticed several people working and smiled knowing it was a matter of time before I would be a part of them.

We arrived at the door of the CEO and the secretary knocked at the door. We both heard a voice ordering us to enter.

I froze at the door as my eyes landed on the familiar sight of Marcus Asteroid on a call. The moment he locked eyes with me, he hanged up.

"Leave us." He orders and his secretary grabbed a cup by his table, before leaving the room.

"You are the CEO of Whales Corporation?" I asked, still trying to make sense of everything.

"I funded this company with the money I earned from the other company that was handed over to me by my father."

"So how come everyone keeps saying you are bankrupt?" I asked.

"That is because I chose to allow them see what I want them to see. No one knows that the CEO of Whales Corporation is me because I have kept my identity hidden for so many years." He got up from his seat, grabbing a file and approached me. He handed over the file to me, as soon as we were close to each other.

"How about we get you to be come the Managing director of Whaes Corporation?" He asked eith a smile. "Come with me."

I almost believed I am in a sort of trance state.

It was too good to be true: being managing director of Whales Coronation is the dream of every individual, including mine.

We arrived at what appeared to be a board room. There were several men and two other women seated, as Marcus made his way to his seat. I sat down besides him and they all turned their attention to him afterwards.

"Today is a new dawn in Whales holding." He announced. "The woman you are seeing is my wife and I am here to announce to everyone that she will be the new managing director of the cooperation."

"This is ridiculous." I turned around to meet the gaze of one of the directors, who got up to his feet to object. "Whales Corporation is known for its reputable impact in the corporate world. We cannot soil our reputation by handing over that role to a woman, who has no experience about the company." He explained and a loud murmur erupted across the room.

"My decision stands and if any of you wishes to question my decision, they should better think again, because I will have them removed." He warned and they all remained silent.

For the next one hour, there was several discussions on the table and one of which was related to my field of study and I participated alot.

By the time the meeting was done, Marcus walked over to my side and we walked out of the board room.

"And they thought you were inexperienced." I blushed at his comment. I must have really impressed him. "Let's go have lunch." He instructed.

When we arrived at a nearby restaurant, my happiness disappeared as I laid eyes on Gwen, who had just placed her orders.

"So Mom was right after all, you did settle for this broke man here." She said with a giggle and I wanted to do something rash, but got a gentle tap from Marcus to stop me.

"I believe you came to get yourself food. Do that and leave us alone." I mentioned, but it only gets worse as she laughed out loud, drawing the attention to everyone.

"You don't tell me what to do sweetheart. Look at me..." She said turning around and back again. "...I look appealing to the most high valued men in the world and Marcus is not one of them."

It was surprising to see the level of composure and calmness that Marcus possessed. He did not look fazed by her comment, neither did he say a word to her; just stare.

"Let's go." I said to Marcus and held his hands to walk away from Gwen.

"Oh and one more thing Marcus...." We paused and I turned around. "...I certainly hope she told you she is pregnant for her ex?" My eyes widened as she spilled out the secret. She laughed like a maniac, as she got out of the restaurant and slowly I tilted my head to look at Marcus, who had a scowl on his face.

"Is that true?"
