Chapter 8

Aвтор: Ava
Months later, I was promoted to Chief Healer in the infirmary because of my skills and unwavering dedication.

One of my colleagues joked,

"Those wolves were so blind and ignorant to let such an excellent healer go…"

But the next second, he shrugged and said more seriously,

"Did you hear? Vincent misdiagnosed a patient, and they died on the spot. Now those furious wolves are flooding the Werewolf Council with reports."

I was stunned. I never imagined Vincent's incompetence would be that extreme...

One evening, while walking back to my den, I noticed a large crowd gathered at the gate.

As I approached, they rushed toward me.

"Lily! We finally found you!"

Confused how they even discovered my location, I was about to speak when an old wolf suddenly dropped to his knees in front of me.

I quickly reached out to lift him up.

"What happened? Don't do this—please, stand up and speak…"

But he was choking on his sobs, unable to say a word. Another stepped forward and spoke in his place.

After saying this, I went into my den, ignoring the crowd still standing outside, shouting and begging.Once inside, I could hear them blaming one another, their voices rising as they shoved and quarreled."This is all your fault, Jessica! If you hadn't forced Lily to go to your den to treat your grandson, none of this would've happened. Now your grandson has to go to another pack's infirmary!""My fault? Are you kidding me? Your son got into an accident and you barged in here, demanding Lily donate her blood! You caused chaos in her infirmary, and now you're blaming me? You shameless old bastard!"The oldest wolf banged his stick on the ground and shouted to silence them:"Enough! Do you really think Lily will come back if we just yell outside her den like this? We need to calm down and figure out a real solution!"But another scoffed with a sneer:"Oh please, don't act righteous now. You clearly had high blood pressure for years, but you turned around and claimed Lily lied about it—j

His behavior soon triggered protests from the patients. They questioned, "Why should we wait on a healer when illnesses don't follow a schedule?"But honestly, his request wasn't unreasonable—it was a standard working schedule for any healer. The only reason they couldn't tolerate it was because of me.I had spoiled them—I never refused a patient, no matter what time it was, day or night. They got used to my kindness, and now they couldn't accept anything less.Worse still, Vincent was a complete novice. He didn't even gain proper experience in healing werewolves during school. He was merely the first medical graduate in the Rogue Pack, and the director had no choice but to place him there after I left.As a result, he often made critical mistakes—once, he gave the wrong herbs, and someone almost died because of it.On top of that, he posted a treatment and medicine price list right on the desk, with prices calculated down to the cent.Patients were outraged, saying the costs were outr

After my words, the once noisy crowd of patients fell into sudden silence. They glanced at one another awkwardly, the arrogance on their faces fading bit by bit.Just then, James's phone rang, the voice on the other end loud and panicked."James, did you find a matching blood type yet? The doctor said our son's wolf is severely injured—he won't last much longer without a transfusion!"James was drenched in sweat, pacing back and forth with a panicked look on his face. His face twisted in panic, and he swept his gaze across the crowd before clearing his throat loudly."Lily's right… My son is dying. If any of you can donate blood, then maybe he has a chance. Please—help me!"But just as hope flickered in his eyes, an old she-wolf quickly turned to leave, waving her hands in refusal."I—I get dizzy at the sight of blood… And being poked with needles is too painful… I can't donate…"James froze, stunned. She was his own relative. He hadn't expected her to be the first to walk away.I let

Those patients were still threatening me with sharp, venomous words and unreasonable demands. Some even dared to warn me—if I refused to donate my blood, they would make sure I could never work as a healer again.I didn't bother to explain anymore.I just stood there, silent, calm, and pulled out my phone to call the werewolf police.James's eyes turned bloodshot the moment he saw me dialing."Is this how you treat your patients now? We're here for treatment, and you call the cops?!"After I hung up, I forced a smile onto my face—bitter, polite, but cold."If you're here for treatment, you're welcome to queue up in the hall like everyone else. I'll treat every illness with the same care. But if you're here to stir chaos, I have every right to protect myself. And I will."Then I called the guard and asked him to escort them out of my office. No matter how loudly they cursed or shouted, I didn't respond. What I needed to do now... was wait.Let the police handle it.The other healers wer

Hearing my words, the dean on the other end agreed without hesitation. Without waiting for any investigation, I called the director right away to hand in my resignation. The patients were thrilled. Some even burst out laughing and applauding. They whispered behind me, clearly eager for me to leave as soon as possible.I overheard them murmuring:"It's right for her to leave. She knows nothing about medicine—she's not qualified to be a healer!""It worked! As long as we unite, we can drive out anyone like her who tries to profit from us!"I replied calmly, with no emotion in my voice:"Don't worry. I'll return to my own pack. We won't see each other again."The moment I finished speaking, thunderous applause broke out behind me.—After taking one day off to rest, I returned to the infirmary in my home pack.Dean Louise let out a long sigh when she saw me:"I've heard everything… The patients in that pack were completely unreasonable. I tried to convince you to stay here after you gradu
