Chapter 2

Author: Yulansa
The whole slaughterhouse went dead silent.

Isaac froze for a moment. He couldn't believe the same "broke little punk" from five years ago would dare speak to him that way.

The thugs who had been about to move stopped short. Something about me unsettled them.

"You really can't drop the act, can you? A kept man who slept his way to the top, playing savior?

"What are you going to use against me? Your connections? Your backers? You're a nobody mouthing off in front of me."

Isaac strode forward and, before anyone could react, snatched the lighter out of Marcella's arms.

Isaac held it between two fingers and studied it as if it were some rare treasure.

He saw the two names scratched crookedly into it with the tip of a knife. Gian & Marcella.

"Give it back!"

Marcella lunged like a madwoman, and two thugs pinned her to the floor.

Isaac hooked a finger under her chin and forced her to look at him.

His gaze crawled over her face, down her neck, and over the rise of her chest. He didn't even try to hide it.

"Marcella, you're a beautiful woman. How can you love that trash you picked up from a garbage heap?" His voice was low and oily, his breath against her ear.

"You reek of poverty. It's disgusting. But that's all right. Once I've taken you home and had my fun, you'll smell like me instead."

He leaned closer, almost touching her lips, and whispered so only the two of them could hear, "I'll show you what kind of 'treasure' a real man can give you." He laughed.

Laughter went around the room.

Marcella was shaking, her eyes red, but all she could manage was a helpless whimper.

My knuckles had gone white and my nails dug into my palms, but my face showed nothing.

Isaac was enjoying my "helpless rage."

He straightened and waved the lighter at me with a contemptuous smile. "See that, beggar? Your woman and this piece of junk you gave her aren't worth a cent to me."

He opened his hand and let the lighter clatter to the floor.

Then he lifted his gleaming custom shoe and ground the lighter into the blood and filth on the floor in front of everyone.

"Trash belongs with trash." He lifted his foot, looked at the mangled scrap of metal pressed into the mud, and scoffed. "Just like you."

Marcella cried out in despair, tore free, and dropped to her knees, reaching for the lighter. But her hands shook so badly she couldn't grasp it.

I walked over and helped her up.

She looked up at me, her eyes full of pain and despair.

"I'm sorry, Gian. I couldn't... protect it."

I shook my head and straightened up.

I looked calmly at Isaac's face.

"You made her cry, and then you stepped on it." My voice was flat, as if I were stating a fact. "So by dawn, the Leoni name will cease to exist."

Isaac blinked, then burst into wild laughter.

"You want to settle accounts with the Leoni family? See if you can make it out of here alive first!"

I ignored him and turned to Marcella.

"Marcella, tell me. How was the Franco family set up?"

Marcella hesitated, then shook her head bleakly.

"Gian, you have no idea how deep the corruption in Blackhaven goes.

"This wasn't a simple turf war. The Leoni family used every dirty trick they could to make sure the Franco family would never recover.

"What the Franco family owes isn't money. It's a blood debt. It's a hole thirty million dollars couldn't fill.

"You were gone five years without a trace. I don't blame you... but what can you possibly do?"

Isaac took a document from one of his thugs and slapped it against my face.

"Hear that, beggar? This is what the Franco family owes the Leoni family. Principal and interest: thirty million.

"Today is the deadline.

"If it isn't paid, every last Franco relative will be fish food, and Marcella Franco will spend the rest of her life as my plaything.

"If you're so capable, pay it for her.

"Can't? Then shut your filthy mouth and crawl out of here!"

Marcella caught my wrist, her voice full of grief.

"Gian, forget about me. Just go..."

I glanced down at the so-called "debt agreement."

Thirty million. Five years ago, that number would have been unthinkable to me.

But now...

I lifted the paper away from my face, patted Marcella's shoulder, and smiled.

"Thirty million. That's all.

"No problem. I'll pay the Franco family's debt."

At last, only the two of us remained in the wrecked slaughterhouse.Marcella stood in the middle of the mess with her back to me, her shoulders trembling."Gian, who are you, really? What happened to you these past five years?"I walked over and stood in front of her.Her eyes were empty and dazed."Five years ago, you vanished. I searched everywhere I could think of, but I couldn't find you."Everyone said you betrayed the family and ran away. I didn't believe them... but I still couldn't find you."I put my hands on her shoulders and spoke softly."It's a long story. But I'm back, Marcella. I came back to reclaim everything that belongs to us."After I left, I planned to find work in Europe. Instead, a group of men grabbed me at the port."The man behind it was the former head of the Raven Group, a reclusive old man with no heirs and little time left."He put countless young men like me through the cruelest tests imaginable. We had nothing and wanted everything. I was the only one wh

Isaac lay on the floor, his shin bent at an unnatural angle and pouring blood. He looked up at me, his lips trembling."I..."Isaac crawled toward me in a panic and slammed his forehead against the floor again and again. It split open and bled, but he didn't dare stop.I watched it all coldly."Did you just say you'd make my woman your plaything?"Isaac trembled with fear. He looked up at me. "Don, I was blind. I judged you by your clothes. I..."I looked down at him as if he were a dead dog."I'm going to make her the most honored woman in the underworld. And a bug like you had the nerve to want her..."I raised my gun and shot Isaac between the legs. He screamed and rolled on the floor in agony. Luna kicked him aside. He hit the wall and passed out.Vito had seen everything, but he didn't dare breathe."Sign."Vito signed every document with shaking hands.Luna took the tablet, contacted lawyers around the world, and had the documents notarized online."Done. The thugs shouted obscenities, murder in their eyes.I glanced at Luna.Luna nodded and spoke into the microphone on her collar. "Clear the room."The ventilation ducts overhead burst open.Dozens of ropes dropped, and a squad of heavily armed mercenaries in tactical masks rappelled down like soldiers falling from the sky.At the same moment, hidden doors around the building were kicked open, and tactical floodlights lit the place like daylight. Before the thugs could react, red laser dots appeared on their foreheads.Their leader, a thug called Leopard, had barely raised his machete when a mercenary shattered his knee with a kick. His scream filled the building. It was a one-sided slaughter. In less than 10 seconds, dozens of hardened gang thugs were pinned in the mud like dead dogs, moaning and unable to fight back.Marcella's aunt crawled under an abandoned truck and huddled there with her arms over her head, barely daring to breathe. Her uncle slid down the wall in a dead faint, hi

"The consolidation of every underworld faction in Blackhaven is complete. The Butcher you mentioned has voluntarily retired."We now have effective control of every Leoni asset."She paused, then looked up at me with fierce intensity."Sign this authorization, and within the hour the Leoni family will vanish from the face of the earth."I gave Isaac a cold smile. Marcella's brief hope vanished, and she sagged against me.My expression hardened. I said nothing, only looked down and sent another message."If they want bullets to do the talking, buy Blackhaven's entire underworld."Isaac didn't notice. He thought he had won again, and strolled over to me."Gian, you did come up with thirty million. I'll admit you've got something."Too bad. In Blackhaven, money alone doesn't cut it. You have to live long enough to spend it."He picked up the agreement from the floor and flung it in Marcella's face triumphantly."Marcella, this is your last chance."Sign this, sell yourself to me, and I'll clean up the Franco family's mess. Then you'll be mine."Otherwise, one call from me and you two dogs end up dead in the street, or rotting in a cell for life."Her uncle grabbed a pen and forced it into Marcella's hand."Marcella, what good is his money? Isaac stood holding the phone, his smile frozen."Dad, what did you say?"Vito Leoni's voice was shaking."Every one of our docks has been seized. Every shipping partner cut us off at the same time, without consulting us!"Our territory is in chaos! If you, you wretch, didn't cause some catastrophe out there, what else could explain it?"Isaac glanced around the room and fought to steady his shaking hands. "Dad, I didn't provoke anyone. I'm just at the Franco family's old slaughterhouse, teaching that Gian a lesson.""Gian? Which Gian?"Isaac pressed a hand to his chest to steady his breathing."Marcella Franco's shameless ex-boyfriend."Vito exploded."Bullshit! Whoever this is can mobilize the entire East Coast underworld in an instant and tear our whole network apart. He's a fucking heavyweight!"You wretch, you've crossed someone you should never have messed with!"After the call ended, everyone looked at Isaac, unsure what to think.Antonelli hurried over and murmured, "Don't pani
