SOFIA

“Wow."

Didn't expect that. Kael's really ruthless. Well she kinda deserved that. Imagine having the boldness to seduce a client. She must have gotten away a lot before today. “Better to focus on the reason I'm here.” She shrugged lifting her coffee to her lips.

The rich smell hit her nostrils before the cup even reached her lips making her salivate.

“Do you want me to never place an order for you?" Kael mocked seeing her pleased expression.

“I..”

A man walked up to them before she could say a word. He wore a black leather jacket on white denim jeans. His sneakers alone could buy a hundred figure skates. Kael gestured to an empty seat close to him after nodding to the man's greetings.

“This is Mark, my PR team head, he'll help us pull this off successfully. Mark this is Sofia," Kael introduced.

“Hi Mark.”

“Hi Sofia."

They exchanged pleasantries before Mark turned to Kael.

“She’s a perfect fit. You have good eyes sir.”

Kael secretly loved the compliment but masked it with a pissed look which Mark ignored.

“To perfectly pull this off we need to come up with a perfect story of how you met each other. Then we can get to making you two comfortable with yourselves. The public pay attention to every tiny detail, especially energy and chemistry and we can't risk anything feeling off.

“How do we do that?” Kael raised a brow.

“I have prepared everything. So you just need to rehearse saying it till it feels natural. They went over a few suggestions until they finally settled for a line.

“You hit her with a puck. Not on purpose though. You're not that bad of a shot. But it caught her right on the chest, and you skated over like you'd just committed felony. She told you if he really wanted to make it up, he could start by buying her a drink. And you've been apologizing since then.”

“That’s so ‘un-Kael’ but okay." Sofia said and Kael raised a brow at her remark.

“What do you mean by that?”

“You’re cold, mean and unfeeling so you won't even care if I die, not to talk of apologizing."

“And that makes it a perfect excuse. Fans would see you as someone who's special to Kael.”

“Did you just agree with her? Kael frowned.

“It’s the truth boss." Mark replied, but we'll fix your image soon.

Inside the same mall, a blonde girl passed by the Cafe and spotted Kael—her friend's ex, sitted with a beautiful girl and another guy to his right. Kael seemed…relaxed. More relaxed than he used to be when he was with her friend. She took out her phone and made a video. The video could only capture the girl's back and knowing her friend, she'll get pissed if the girl face is not captured.

Retracing her steps, she went into the cafe, found a seat in a position where she could clearly see the girl’s face. She quietly took a seat like she was actually there for coffee and signalled a server. She needed things to go smoothly so acting normal was a must.

“What would you like to have ma'am?”

The server’s handsomeness was distracting and his deep sexy voice was messing with her thoughts and rendering her efforts of trying to remember where she had seen the girl opposite Kael, futile.

“I’ll have a latte with extra cream.” It took a lot to not stare at his distracting face.

“Coming right up." He bowed and left. She relaxed a bit when he left to get her order until her gaze landed on his back. He had a lean athletic looking back. His back muscles was toned and visible from his white uniform shirt making want to trace the muscles she could see straining against his shirt. She wanted to know if they felt as hard as they looked. She forced her gaze from staring at the way his shirt pulled across his shoulders before wilder thoughts would follow.

She sipped her latte occasionally glancing at the girl. She was pretty, no doubt. The type of pretty that catches the attention of top beauty magazines. Definitely a big threat to Camela. She also had Kael's attention from the look of things. Camela is definitely gonna hate her.

Camela had a history of going after girls trying to outshine her by simply existing. The easiest way to get on her bad side was being more pretty and getting Kael's attention. And the pretty girl was in for it.

Pulling out her phone, she secretly made a video to send to Camela. Even if what she did was bad—setting up the girl for Camela's wrath, she couldn't risk two weeks of the team and unpaid allowances.

She slipped out like she came in—unnoticed, at the same time, wishing the pretty girl luck.

SOFIA

The date dragged on for hours, because Mark kept on talking, trying to come up with more perfect lies we could tell the public.

“I’ll trade my left kidney for a chance to escape these two,” I groaned internally and as if the universe was listening to my thoughts, Kael's phone rang.

He picked it up, but the second his expression shifted. He was looking cold before the call, but right now he looked like he could kill someone.

“Let’s meet some other time, I'll settle the bill." He muttered barely glancing at two of us then walked out of the Cafe in hasty long strides.

“What was that.”

“You should try getting used to that side of him," Mark responded with a look of pity.

I decided to let that pass, wasn't going to let grown as man's mood swings trouble me.

Mark walked me to my waiting ride after we finished coffee, while yapping about all the benefits I'm entitled to as Kael's girlfriend. Things I wasn't interested in. I just wanted to be on a rink. In figure skates. Skating to my favorite song. I should do that tomorrow, I have some free time as I won't be seeing Kael tommorow.

SOMEWHERE ELSE

A high performance sports car pulled up in the driveway of an elegant mini mansion. It's tires leaving visible marks on the tar as it screeched to a halt. A good-looking guy in his mid twenties—Kael jumped out of the car without killing the engine and dashed into the house, ignoring the servant trying to talk to him.

He raced to a room on the most silent wing of

the mansion, pushed the already opened door open and immediately regretted doing so.

  • Thin Ice: My Brother's Bitter Rival    The weight of blackmail

Chapter 5His ex—Camela sat on his sister's bed, digging her claw like crimson coloured nails into her dark locks like she cared. Seeing his sister peacefully asleep made him relaxed for a bit, even if there was nothing caring about Camela petting her to sleep. The act was more of a reminder that his sister needed her to calm her severe anxiety, and that he needed her even if they'd broken up.When she was certain the little girl was in Dreamland, she walked out and shut the door with that smirk that was always a big turn on for him. When they were together. He quickly averted his gaze when he caught himself staring too much, annoyed that she still had such an effect on him.“You love her don't you?” she drawled covering the little space between them. “You are being a bad brother by letting her suffer when I can calm her down, forget that bitch you've been running around with and come to mama." He gulped as she trailed her index finger across his chest, tracing his abs through his t

  • Thin Ice: My Brother's Bitter Rival    Dinner with Kael

Time moved fast and soon it was almost 7pm, the time Kael scheduled for the date. Sofia stood Infront of her vanity mirror critiquing her outfit. She'd never been inside Northgate's mall but knew it was for those with large pockets and right now she doubted if her blue cropped cardigan, white leather skirt and black knee length heeled boots was making enough statement. She thought if seeking her brother's opinion but remembered she couldn't risk him finding out,at least not yet, plus she was still giving him the silent treatment. She stared for some more minutes before picking up her black fur purse and heading out still unsure. Her parents were not sitted in the living room so she didn't need to lie, and Sean was out with his friends. She got into her already waiting ride and leaned back, placing her head on the headrest as the driver pulled out of the driveway and hit the road. The ride was calm and peaceful the entire twenty minutes and finally the driver pulled up to the magnifi

  • Thin Ice: My Brother's Bitter Rival    Saying Yes

“Yes.”Sofia lifted the cardboard with the words “yes” written boldly in red ink for Kael to see. It was one of the Vipers home games, and she was seated amongst the spectators dressed in white ripped jeans and an oversized hockey jersey with her brother's name written behind. One would think she was there to support her brother but in reality, she was there to give Kael an answer. As the league’s top player, he never fails to score at any game, so the cardboard was a perfect cover to seem as a fan while passing a message. From the rink, Kael caught sight of the message and smirked before hitting his signature goal celebration before skating away. He was expecting her to say no, seems he underestimated how much she loved her brother, and figure skating. What does it feel like to love something and to be Soo loved by someone they'd put themselves on the line for you? He wondered as he glared at Sean on the stands with two other teammates. He was still holding unto his “sick” excuse.Hi

  • Thin Ice: My Brother's Bitter Rival    Caught in the Act

She pulled the oversized hockey jersey over her head, every inch of her being screaming at her in protest. Next she shoved her feet into the clunky Bauer skates, they were two sizes too big and offered no protection for her delicate ankles. She let out a shaky breath laced with frustration and helplessness. She should be here perfecting her Charlotte instead of some hockey drills she'd never attempted before.“Just the drills” she muttered before stepping on to the ice rink. “Get him through and get back to my dreams,” she lifted a foot attempting the move Sean her shown her with a terrible wobbly form. The hockey skates offered no ankle supports unlike her figure skates that now felt like an extension of her body. Far above her the Viper girls tryouts banner glittered in the dim light reminding her how much she was risking being on this hockey rink. “ I can do this,” she glared at the flat, rocking chair like torture device on her ankles. “Strides, glides, nothing fancy." She though
