Chapter 3

Liora Z
"Ayla Laurel!"

Corbin's voice exploded across the ballroom, and every head turned our way.

He strode toward me with his followers, his face a thunderous mask.

Why are you following me? I’ve made it perfectly clear — the only person I love is Faye.”

"Even if your Laurel Pack is in decline, you should still have some basic dignity. Is this how your parents raised you?"

"Following you? Corbin? Are you out of your mind?""

I set down my champagne glass, my gaze level.

"I was invited to a charity gala."

Corbin's face darkened even more at her words.

“Cut the act!" ! Let me tell you — I have already marked Faye. No matter how you cling to me, I will never marry you!"

Corbin roared, pointing at me. "Besides, you get rejected three days ago, and now you just 'happen' to show up here? Do you think I'm an idiot?"

The crowd of onlookers grew, their whispers getting louder.

"She really is here to harass Corbin."

"The Laurel Pack has fallen so far. They're resorting to cheap tricks like this."

"She's just trying to latch onto the Black Moon Pack's wealth and status."

Faye clung to Corbin’s arm, tears in her eyes. "Corbin, I'm scared... What if she tries to hurt us?"

"Don't worry," Corbin said, wrapping an arm around her shoulder while his glare cut into me like a knife. "She wouldn't dare."

His Beta, Liam, stepped forward, a malicious glint in his eye. "Miss Ayla, since you miss our Alpha so much, why don't you have a few drinks with me tonight? Maybe I can put in a good word for you with Corbin."

He reached out to touch my face.

I shot to my feet.

The sudden movement startled Liam so badly that he stumbled back, nearly falling over.

"Don't touch me," my voice was ice. "You are not worthy of breathing the same air as me."

A hush fell over the people nearby.

"Is that the legendary power of the Laurel Pack?" someone whispered.

"No wonder the Black Moon elders value her so much."

Corbin's face darkened. He hadn't expected me to have that in me.

"A little flash of power?" he sneered. "You think that pathetic display will make me want you? Ayla, all I feel for you is disgust. That will never change."

"Good." I said, sinking back into my chair. "because the feeling is mutual.”

At his words, a flicker of doubt crossed Corbin’s eyes.

A calculating smile tugged at Faye’s lips.

Faye suddenly put on a sweet smile.

"In that case, why don't we all have a drink together?" She took two glasses of champagne from a passing waiter's tray. "A toast. To our future freedom."

She offered one glass to me and held the other herself.

"Come on, Ayla. Let's forget the past and start over."

I frowned, wanting to ignore her, but she just stood there, holding the glass out.

To get them to leave, I finally reached for the glass.

But before my fingers could touch it, Faye's hand "slipped," and the entire glass of champagne spilled down the front of her dress.

She let out a piercing scream. An angry red rash instantly bloomed across her chest, a horrifying sight.

"It burns! It burns!" she shrieked in pain.

Corbin exploded.

"You venomous bitch!" he roared, his eyes bloodshot as he lunged toward me. "Don't you know Faye is allergic to alcohol? How could you?!"

I frowned and said, “How was I supposed to know what she’s allergic to? Besides,She spilled the drink on herself."

Faye wept pitifully: “Corbin, it’s not Ayla’s fault. I was just being careless…”

At her words, Corbin’s face turned even colder.

“Ayla is a naturally jealous woman. She did this on purpose to humiliate you in front of everyone.”

The accusation came out of nowhere, and I was just about to refute it.

But Faye's skin was getting worse, the rash swelling and turning a deeper red.

"Faye, don’t be afraid. I’ll take you to the hospital right now!"

Corbin yelled, scooping Faye into his arms.

His eyes burned with hatred. "But before that—"

He turned to Liam and a few of his men. "Hold her down!"

"What do you think you're doing?" I took a step back.

"Let's give you a taste of your own medicine." Corbin snatched a bottle of vodka from a passing servant.

From his inner jacket pocket, he produced a small, silver flask and emptied its shimmering, silver contents into the vodka.

He swirled the bottle, holding it up to the light with a wild, cruel glint in his eyes. "I always keep a few toys on hand for disobedient mutts. You almost destroyed Faye. This is the price."

The color drained from my face.

"Corbin, you're insane! In front of all these people, you wouldn't dare—"

"Wouldn't I?" His eyes were wild and cruel. "You almost ruined Faye. This is the price!"

My heart hammered in my chest. For a werewolf, silver is a potent poison. Even a small amount feels like being set on fire from the inside.

I tried to back away, but Liam grabbed my arms, pinning me to the sofa.

They pried my jaw open, forcing the cold, searing liquid down my throat.

I choked and coughed violently.

The expensive liquor, laced with silver's venom, dribbled from my lips, soaking my gown.

Corbin stared down at me, his eyes like chips of ice. But for a split second, I saw it. A flicker of something in his eyes. Hesitation? Regret? Then it was gone.

Three days later, at dusk.I was in the garden trimming roses when a servant ran up to me."Luna, there's someone at the gate." His face was pale. "It's Corbin, but…""But what?""He looks… terrible."I put down my shears and walked to the gate.I could hear his wails from a distance.Through the iron bars, I saw a figure covered in bandages, kneeling on the ground. Was that really Corbin? His left arm was in a cast, his face was wrapped in gauze, and he looked like a demon that had crawled out of hell.Worse was his eyes—all reason was gone, replaced by pure terror and despair."Ayla!" He saw me and immediately started crawling forward. "Save me! Please, save me!"I stood inside the gate, looking down at him."Did the alternative treatment fail?""Completely!" He was sobbing like a child. "The girl died, and my rage is worse than ever!""And?""I've severed my bond with Faye!" he pleaded. "I've renounced my Alpha title! My fortune, the pack, it's all yours! Anything!"I scoffed. "And

We knew nothing of Corbin’s drama, nor did we care.At that moment, I was with Finn in the warm ocean breeze, choosing the next stop for our honeymoon. He was flipping through a leather-bound manual with ancient nautical charts, but his eyes kept wandering over to me.I couldn't help but laugh. "You're not even looking at these, are you?"Finn glanced at the sky. The moon was high. He smirked. "The night is young."I knew exactly what he meant. "Then… I'll go take a bath."He nodded, a flash of light in his eyes, like a wolf king waiting for the hunt. After we had both bathed, he dried my long hair for me, his movements gentle and meticulous, as if handling a priceless treasure.Soon, he swept me into his arms and gently laid me on the soft, massive bed.Finn stroked the mark on my neck. "Our bond… it feels even stronger."I closed my eyes, feeling the energy surging through my veins. The power of the Moon Goddess's blood was fully awakening.I could feel every one of Finn's emotions,

The day of the ceremony. At ten in the morning, I stood on a pier on the Azure Coast. The Endless Sea stretched out before me, the sea breeze gently caressing my white dress. This private island, named "The Goddess's Tear," was normally closed to the public. Finn had booked it for three whole days."Ready?" Finn walked up behind me, his hands resting on my shoulders.I nodded. In the distance, the roar of helicopters grew louder. One after another, they descended from the sky, carrying rare and exotic flowers from all over the world. Every single bloom was worth a fortune."By the Goddess!" a newly arrived noblewoman gasped. "What fortune must this have cost?""It's not about the cost," her partner said, shaking his head. "Some of these flowers can't even be bought. You need special channels."The guests began to arrive.Alphas from every major pack in the Northern Territories, representatives from the Western Royal families, financial titans from the Golden Avenue—every guest was a ti

"I found it! I found it!" Faye held up her phone, her voice shaking with excitement. "An alternative! We don't need Ayla's song!"Logan and Elena immediately crowded around her."What is it?" Logan demanded.Faye scrolled frantically, a crazed light in her eyes. "I found a blood shaman on the shadow net. He says he can use an ancient ritual to find a distant relative with a trace of the goddess's bloodline—""And then?" Elena pressed."And use their life force to forge a temporary echo of the power!" Faye's cheeks were flushed. "As long as we find a she-wolf willing to sacrifice herself, we can stabilize Corbin!"Corbin stopped growling. A flicker of reason seemed to return."Really?" He stared intently at Faye's phone."It's true! The shaman said he's done it successfully many times!"Logan and Elena looked at each other, a spark of hope igniting in their eyes.I laughed to myself.I’d heard of this barbaric method in my past life.It worked, for a time. But the cost was an innocent s

I hung up."Who was that?" Finn asked softly."No one important." I shut my phone off and leaned into his arms.Moonlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling window. Finn’s hand gently traced the mark on my neck."How does it feel?" His voice was a low, magnetic rumble."Complete." I closed my eyes, sinking into a sense of peace I'd never known. "More complete than I've ever felt."This mate bond was ten times stronger than the one I’d shared with Corbin in my past life.Back then, I thought that was love. Now I knew what a true connection felt like."Me too." Finn kissed my forehead. "After all these years, I finally have you."My phone started vibrating again. The toxin gradually took effect, and my body began to twitch involuntarily.Corbin pressed his lips together and said coldly, “Enough. Stop pouring it.”Liam let me go. I collapsed onto the sofa, coughing uncontrollably. The burn of the silver vodka seared a path from my throat to my stomach. Every breath was like swallowing fire."This is just a small lesson," Corbin said, looming over me, his voice freezing cold. "If you ever dare to hurt Faye again, it won't be this easy."People were pointing and whispering. Some looked pleased, others offered fake sympathy."Serves her right.
