Chapter 1

Author: Perfect Timing
I stared at the row of security monitors, cold sweat soaking my back. I could still feel the dump truck crushing my arms and legs, the pain buried deep in my bones.

It was 1 a.m. In 40 minutes, an influencer named Crystal Briggs would come staggering through the door.

In my previous life, I stood in this exact spot and watched her stumble inside.

Eager to help, I stepped out from behind the desk.

I steadied her by the elbow and helped her to the elevator. She leaned against the wall, swiped her key card, and got in on her own.

I held her elbow only as long as she needed the support. The whole thing took less than a minute.

As the elevator doors closed, I worried that she might fall in the bathroom once she got home.

Back then, all I saw was someone who needed help.

Around noon the next day, I was having a sandwich during shift change when a coworker walked over with a strange look on his face. He held out his phone, showing me a livestream.

On the screen, Crystal was in tears as she told her viewers her version of the night before.

"Last night, a security guard at my complex… He saw how drunk I was and tried to drag me into the emergency stairwell. I couldn't fight him off… My hands still shake just thinking about it."

My ears started ringing.

Comments were already pouring in.

[Seriously? Security guards think they can get away with this now?]

[Find out who he is! Make sure he can never show his face again!]

[This is the kind of creep they hire at a luxury condo complex?]

In less than three hours, the internet decided I was guilty. My name, work history, hometown, even Dad's name, all appeared at the top of the comments for everyone to see.

Someone even shared screenshots of Crystal's lies in our hometown's community group chat.

Dad could barely read. He put on his reading glasses and struggled through the screenshots, one word at a time. When he finished, he collapsed beside the stove from a stroke.

By the time a neighbor found him and got him to the nearest hospital, his body was already cold.

I clutched my phone and sobbed as I watched the security footage. I went through it frame by frame, clipped the part where she swiped her own card and walked into the elevator, and posted it on every platform I could think of.

No one believed me.

[Those are management's cameras. They can edit the footage however they want.]

[He works for them. Of course they'd cover for him. How does this prove anything?]

[Even if you didn't drag her into the stairwell, who knows where you put your hands while you were "helping" her?]

Nothing I said got through to them.

In the end, I lost it. I tracked down the address of her agency and went there to wait outside.

All I wanted was to look her in the eye, in front of everyone, and ask her why she did this to me.

As I crossed the street, a dump truck ran a red light and slammed into me.

The world spun around me, but all I could think about was Dad. I never even got to see him one last time.

Now, I was back, watching the glass door on the security monitor. No one had come through yet.

At 1:40 a.m., the glass door swung open. Crystal tottered inside on her stilettos, exactly as she did in my previous life.

I didn't agree because I wanted to be famous. I did it because I remembered who I was in my previous life.I was a man desperately posting the same security footage on platform after platform, typing the same explanations over and over. In the end, people dismissed it all with "Management edited it," and their refusal to believe me broke me and cost me my life.No one told me that my word alone wouldn't clear my name, or that I needed to put the evidence in the hands of credible people with no ties to me.No one told me to call the police and a reporter as soon as the accusations started. Instead, I sat there with shaking hands, clipping a video no one would believe. If someone had, maybe I wouldn't have died on that road. Maybe Dad wouldn't have collapsed beside that cold stove.I couldn't save the man I was in my previous life. But someone watching might be in the same position, falsely accused, with nowhere to turn and no way to make themselves heard. Maybe I could help them.

  • This Time, I Never Touched Her   Chapter 7

Viewers recording the livestream already had every second saved, from the police statement to the screenshot of the agency's group chat. That night, the brands behind her new ad deals announced one after another that they were cutting ties with her.Her carefully crafted image fell apart. She was supposed to be a young woman living alone in the big city, struggling to find her way but refusing to give up.People dug through her old videos and discovered an entire team behind her supposedly independent life. They managed every detail, right down to the angle of her face when she cried. Then someone uncovered messages from her private account. She called the fans who cared about her and spent money on virtual gifts "suckers" and "walking ATMs."More came out by the hour, until she deleted all her videos and shut down every account. But the internet remembered. "Crystal remembered it wrong" became one of the biggest memes online.Meanwhile, things were so quiet on my end that it

[You remembered it wrong? You put his face out there and let people dox him for three hours, and that's your excuse?][I was just trashing that Paul guy. Now I want to slap myself.][So you "remembered it wrong." Who's gonna answer for his parents getting harassed and his reputation getting destroyed?]I sat in the guard booth, watching the comments race across the screen, and let out a long breath. In my previous life, I posted that footage on every platform I could, carefully explaining what happened and all but begging someone to believe me. No one listened. This time, I didn't say another word. I simply put the footage into the right hands. The truth alone wasn't enough to convince people. They needed to see it in writing, backed by an official statement.Within an hour of the police statement, public opinion turned completely. The same people demanding that I be shot flooded Crystal's livestream, insisting she explain herself. She frantically tried to end the stream, but h

By 3 p.m., Crystal's viewer count had settled at 310,400.Comments scrolled faster than I could read them. [Make him pay], [Shoot him], and [Scumbag security guard] filled the screen.Apparently satisfied that she whipped everyone into enough of a frenzy, Crystal began urging her fans to "fight for justice."She wiped away her tears, speaking slowly, her voice full of hurt and determination. "I've made up my mind. I'm going to the police. I can't let someone like him keep working here and putting other women at risk."The comments erupted in support.[Yes! Report him!][Good for you, girl!][Need a lawyer? We'll raise the money!]Just then, her livestream briefly froze. Her connection wasn't the problem. Countless people were refreshing the same post at once. The local police department had released a statement on its official account. The headline read, [Statement Regarding Online Allegations of Harassment by a Security Guard.]The statement was brief and to the point.

At 11:40 a.m., my phone buzzed. A friend sent me a link followed by three huge question marks. My heart lurched as I tapped it. There was the same livestream, the same red-rimmed eyes.Crystal sat at a vanity draped in sheer white fabric. Soft lighting behind her made her look pale and vulnerable."About last night… I've spent all morning wondering if I should say anything."She sniffled, with just enough of a tremor in her voice."There's this security guard at my complex… I was drunk, and I could barely walk. He helped me… but then he started leading me toward the emergency stairwell…"Comments flooded in.[What the hell? Another security guard?][Do these people seriously think they can do whatever they want to the residents?][Don't be scared, girl. Tell us who he is!]I stared at the screen, my fingers cold. Strangely, though, I felt steady. In my previous life, watching this felt like the end of the world. I panicked, scrambled to explain, clipped the security footag

  • This Time, I Never Touched Her   Chapter 3

I barely slept that night.Around dawn, I put my head down on the little desk in the guard booth and dozed off. In my dreams, I was back on that road, with the dump truck barreling toward me. I jolted awake, my back slick with cold sweat.I pulled out my phone. It was 6 a.m., and daylight was creeping in.After my shift, I rode my old bike back to my rented room, working through my plan along the way.In my previous life, Crystal caught me completely off guard. By the time I understood what was happening, the rumors were everywhere, and I couldn't get the evidence to anyone who could help. This time, I needed to act before she did. Denying accusations she hadn't made yet wouldn't help, but I could get the evidence into the right hands before she started lying.I organized the three videos on my phone, labeling each file with her arrival time, the camera location, and the recording's length. Then I called the local police station and explained exactly what happened the night
