Chapter 2

Autor: Cat Treats
I closed my eyes and waited for the Grim Reaper to take me away. Suddenly, I heard the sounds of a commotion coming from behind me.

"Cameron!"

The next second, I was grabbed by a powerful force.

Mom's cries echoed in my ears. Her entire upper body was hanging over the edge of the balcony as she held onto me for dear life.

"Pull him up! Grab him and pull him up, Jason!" she screamed.

Dad darted toward us. With the two of them working together, they managed to yank me back onto the balcony. I landed on my back on the hard surface.

"Cameron… Are you alright, Cameron?"

Mom was deathly pale as she crawled to me and kneeled by my side. Her arm was hanging unnaturally by her side, but the first thing that she did was touch my shoulders and my face.

"Are you hurt?" she asked. "Say something… Don't scare me…"

My mind went blank as I stared at her tear-streaked face. A thought suddenly flashed through my mind—perhaps Mom still loved me.

A sudden sigh resounded next to us.

"Why did you feel the need to resort to something so drastic, Cam?" Hayden asked. "If you think of me as an eyesore, you can just tell me that you don't want me to be around when you, Mom, and Dad ring in the New Year.

"Why did you have to scare Mom and Dad by threatening to end your own life? Look! Mom even dislocated her arm just to save you!"

Dad finally lost his temper. Pain exploded across my cheek before I could even get a word in.

Dad didn't hold back when he slapped me hard across my face. The sound echoed through the living room.

"Do you have some loose screws in your head?" he roared. "Hayden's your brother! The New Year is days away! What the hell are you trying to accomplish by causing such a commotion?"

Dad's chest heaved, making it clear that he was furious. "Even if you want to kill yourself, you should know to choose a better time! If anything happens to you now, who's going to take Hayden's pla—"

"Jason!" Mom snapped as she whipped her head around to glare at him.

The rest of Dad's words died on his tongue.

"He's just spouting nonsense in a fit of anger," Mom immediately explained. "Also, Cameron just experienced something terrifying. Stop giving him a hard time!"

Mom looked both panicked and guilty as she ushered me into the car. As Dad drove us to the hospital, the spark of hope that had ignited in my heart for a brief moment was extinguished by a bucket of freezing water.

Mom only saved me because Hayden wouldn't have a scapegoat anymore if I was dead. They only treated me well for Hayden's sake.

My thoughts began to spiral the moment the realization was planted in my mind. I suddenly recalled many incidents that had happened in my past lives.

When I was younger, I came down with the flu and a high fever. Mom was so scared that she immediately rushed me to the hospital and kept vigil by my bedside for three days. But in reality, she just didn't want Hayden to get infected with my illness because he had a competition coming up. She didn't want his performance to be affected.

After I graduated from university, my advisor assigned me to join an internship program at a top-tier hospital, Sandler Hospital.

Dad patted my shoulder and said, "You'll have a really tough time if you work at Sandler Hospital. We don't hope for you to achieve spectacular results. We just want you to be healthy and happy. Don't put yourself through the wringer by working there."

I remember thinking that Mom and Dad treated me so well at the time. Only later did I find out that only one of all the interns had a chance of being promoted to a full-time employee. If I had joined the internship program, Hayden's chances of securing that promotion would have been zero.

I couldn't even remember how I felt every time I discovered Mom's and Dad's blatant favoritism for Hayden anymore. I had gotten used to turning a blind eye to their actions. After all, that was the only way I could maintain the facade that I was part of a happy family.

But I couldn't pretend anymore. I looked up at Dad, chuckling lightly before finishing his sentence.

"You're right. I picked the wrong time to take my own life. My kidney wouldn't be fresh if I died too early. No one will take the fall for Hayden if I die too early too. Am I right, Dad?"

Emily whipped her head up in a panic and saw that the cab had been surrounded by countless black cars. However, the most frightening part about the entire situation was how the police sirens were gradually closing in too.The driver was so scared that he scrambled out of the car and raised both hands into the air, shouting, "I-I'm just a cab driver. I don't know anything!"The moment the words left his lips, the cab door was opened from the outside.Dad's familiar voice cut through the air. "Get out of the cab."Jason tried to put up a struggle, reflexively bringing me closer to his chest. "You've made a mistake. He's my son! We're just taking him home!"Using a shocking amount of strength, Dad forcefully peeled Jason's fingers off me and handed me to Mom, who cradled me in her arms.Emily shrieked and lunged at us. "No! He's my son! Look at me, Cameron! I'm here!"The police officer grabbed her wrists before she could lay her hands on me."Freeze! You're suspected of being inv

Jason grabbed Emily and dragged her away before she could finish her sentence. The sound of their urgent, chaotic footsteps quickly disappeared around the corner of the hallway.I was still crying and felt like I was on the verge of passing out.The door was slammed open."What's going on?"An urgent but familiar voice cut through the air.I wasn't able to get a good look at the newcomer before I felt a pair of hands carefully pick me up from the cot.Mom was back. She didn't even bother removing her coat before taking me from Dad. Her movements were very gentle, but I could tell how anxious she was."Don't cry, sweetie," she cooed hoarsely. "I was late. I'm sorry…"She patted my back over and over again, pressing her forehead to mine. "Why are you crying like this? Your face is turning purple…"I finally breathed a sigh of relief. My cries slowly faded away until I was only letting out the occasional sob."Why is he crying like this?" Dad asked. It was obvious that he was t

Emily could barely string a proper sentence together because of how hard she was crying."I was wrong," she blubbered. "I shouldn't have played favorites. I shouldn't have wronged you for that beast. I regretted my actions every day after you left. We've already sent Hayden to prison. He was convicted of murder, so he'll be locked behind bars for decades!"Please come back to us, okay? Come home with me…"In my past lives, I had hoped countless times that Jason and Emily would regret hurting me. However, they were too late. I had already taken my revenge, and I had also started my new life. I didn't want their belated regret anymore.Emily lowered her head until her forehead was nearly touching my cheek. It almost felt as if she wanted to mold me into her embrace. My past self might have been moved by her actions, but at that moment, an overwhelming feeling of disgust roiled in my gut, so intense that I nearly threw up.I thrashed around wildly, twisting my tiny body desperately

It didn't take long for me to be born. I cried when I was picked up. My new father turned to his assistant and said, "Inform the family that the inheritance trust will be going into effect early. The property in the heart of the city will be directly transferred to the child. Set up education and medical funds separately. Double the amount for both." From the moment I was born, I had things that were difficult for regular people to get even if they worked their entire lives. My new mother lay on the hospital bed. Her face was still a little pale from going through childbirth, but she still reached out and cradled me in her arms at the first chance she got."We'll give you the best things in the world," she murmured.Mom and I were sent to the postpartum care center on the south side of the city after we were discharged from the hospital. The center was famous for only serving VIP clients. There were floor-to-ceiling windows that faced the river in my room. I was fed milk, nurse

Gunshots rang through the air when the police saw Hayden dealing a fatal blow to me. I watched as Hayden's hand was punctured by several bullets. Blood spurted from his wounds, but the blood that gushed from my artery was even more intense.I had always thought that dying would be an incredibly painful ordeal. However, I only felt the sensation of blood pouring endlessly out of my neck. In fact, even breathing became easier.Hayden was screaming hysterically. "My hand!"When the police swiftly pinned him to the floor, he thrashed around and shouted, "I didn't do it! He was the one who—"They hauled him away before he could finish his sentence.Mom threw herself at me. My blood spurted all over her face. She cried out in fear as she pressed her hands to my neck. Both her hands and voice were shaking."Don't scare me, Cameron…"It didn't take long before my blood completely stained her hands red. "Stay strong. Don't fall asleep. Listen to me. I'm begging you. Keep your eyes open…

Three days later, the seal on the back of my hand was barely visible. The door swung open. Mom strode into the room and slapped a document in front of me, saying, "It's an organ donation agreement. Sign it now.""Are you sure that you're allowed to abuse your authority as a doctor to remove your son's kidney without his consent?" I asked with a smile.Mom's eyes flashed. Meanwhile, Dad looked completely unbothered as he coldly said, "It doesn't matter even if you refuse to sign the agreement. It'll just be a little more troublesome for us. "Things were supposed to be so simple. You could have helped Hayden by just giving up one of your kidneys. We could still have been a loving family in the future. You're the one who insisted on causing a fuss."He clicked his tongue and shook his head, looking as if he was feeling regretful over how things turned out. "Now, we have no choice but to have you take the fall for Hayden even after removing one of your kidneys. It's to prevent you fr
